As soon as I booted up rivals I was drawn to Magik as a character but when I started playing her I knew she was gonna be my main. here's a tip for using her ranged attack in ult form: ranged attack can be used to quickly finish off a single squishy, auto>ranged>auto usually combo kills a 250, but since the second auto swing comes in faster in ult form, auto>auto>ranged works as well the reason i say that is because similar to melee attack, in normal form, auto>ranged>auto has the ranged attack reset the swing animation on auto, but it continues the combo. it might not be a top combo, but it is still tech worth knowing, that besides melee, the ranged attack can be used to reset the swing on auto

I'm at about 4 hours of Magik and still get wrecked a lot man. Granted I never played overwatch or... Any big video games until last year, but even so God DAMN the humbling is real. Team comp is extremely important tho.

Playing her in quick match is borderline impossible because of how volatile teams can be. She kind of relies on your team doing what they’re supposed to be doing which half the time everyone does the opposite in QM. Or they’re learning a new character so they’re not able to contribute as much.

Great guide! One combo I use if I know they are going to get healing is whirl -> E -> LMB -> RMB -> LMB -> Melee, it uses almost all your cds but it can outburst some heal attempts.

The way I think about using melee is that you can weave it in just before using any other ability (so: melee-M2Slash, melee-Disc, melee-EDash) or to finish a 1hp target. Since it has a longer "cooldown" for queuing your next Basic Attack you always want sth to cancel/fill this downtime or be sure your done comboing for a sec.

This is super helpful for me. I've been trying to pick up Magik for awhile and always die just before killing enemies most of the time because I didn't know her best combos (cancelling into melee is huge - I had no idea you could do that). One of my friends mains Venom, so I might try to get some reps in with her when he's playing Venom so we can practice diving together.

She is a solid anti-peel, but its best to kite to your backline rather than remain there the entire time otherwise you lose a ton of value. Bucky would be better as a permanent anti-dive.

Magik is also very useful for guarding supports. She’s a great counter to Iron Fist and Black Panther, and like you said Mantis giving her a damage boost can make her very difficult to kill. If I’m not pushing or flanking then I’d stick around the supports and keep enemy flankers off their backs This also makes the healers appreciate you more so when you do flank or push you’re more likely to get Luna’s guard or Mantis’ damage boost

i've been trying really hard to get good at magik, but i find the hardest bit for me is remembering combos/the erratic movement of players in real matches. i'm okay in practice, but in a match i get absolutely dominated which is discouraging. i'm gonna try your tips out in the practice range, though! thanks for posting this

omg the tip about not aiming your dashes with your crosshair is big. i can hit them most of the time but i usually aim with my crosshair (because duh) and often end up confused why it didnt hit if my crosshair was lined up right. gonna try implementing that tip and hopefully im hitting way more!! aiming outside of your crosshair is totally unintuitive

lil trick i found out, when you see your darkchild meter about to end if you time your dash with the animation of de transforming you kinda negate the animation. very usefull cause the ult is dogshit

I love seeing this guide, I'm glad to know most of what I learned through gameplay was reiterated on this, and I learned a new trick I had no idea you could EW and dash to propel her so that's super cool! I gotta ask too since you mentioned the hard counters, what's the best strategy for taking Peni on? I can pretty safely take out good burst damage characters and autolockers, but Peni seems to be one of the very few I have trouble taking on. Appreciate the guide!
