When I complimented Ralph Stanley about his wonderful witnessing during one of his concerts in which he played quite a few bluegrass gospel songs (including "Rank Stranger"), he smiled and said, "I always think of my mother when I do those songs. She loved to sing praise music." I'm one of your Patreon patrons, Josh. Your channel is always an inspiration!

When I met Ralph Stanley at the CD signing table some years ago in Tucson, there was one question I wanted to ask him. Part of my family is from eastern Kentucky coal mining country and there were many musicians amongst my uncles, aunts and cousins. So, I asked Ralph about one of them. I said, "Mr. Stanley, do you remember my uncle Gurney Adkins? He played fiddle." He looked me in the eye right away and said, "Gurney? Ain't he dead?" and he grinned.
