You guys really did the Buldak dirty by preparing them like a soup. The directions clearly indicate you have to drain all the liquid before applying the flavorings and extras. They should be glossy and thick-coated, not soupy. I demand a redo.

I gotta agree with everyone, the Buldak should’ve had way less water. Though, I would put those in their own category anyways since they’re more of a stir-fried noodle, and I still think they’d be beat out by Indomie (if featured.) Best highdea I’ve ever had was putting some kewpie, corn, fresh squeezed lime juice (and some zest,) and cotija on the 2X spicy Buldak. Y'know, other than the Better Help ad, I hated how Andrew and his crew decided to turn Buldak stir-fried noodles noodles into broth noodles as someone who has ate a variety of instant noodles. it's like cooking frozen pizza in a pan on the stove, it doesn't really work and the taste is significantly less better if they'd actually read how to serve it properly. I am aware this comment is ultimately trivial and taking it way too seriously, but I still can't believe that Babish and his crew either didn't realise how to prepare the noodles properly or they did it on purpose for whatever reason, Hopefully Babish can redeem himself later on this incident.

1:36 growing up in Fountain Valley, California ( first city with a Japanese mayor outside Hawaii) and near Costa Mesa, real Ramen definitely existed even 30 years ago. There were dozens of mom and pop Japanese restaurants including ramen shops within a couple miles of my house. When I go to Japan and go to mom and pop places it often makes me nostalgic for my youth in California. My bet is there are a few other places like this along the west coast.

The Shin Ramen is actually the perfect base to add or change anything imo. It's noodles are amazing and the broth is spicy but kind of neutral, You can easily just add stuff to it or do those ramen cooking hacks and it will only improve it.

I imagine they cooked it like the instructions tell you to. I'm pretty sure the Buldak instructions have you mix the sauce in the water. Plus I don't think he tried the spiciest version of it, which even when mixed with water put me on the toilet about 10 minutes after taking 2 bites (I couldn't finish it and neither could my girlfriend who bites into raw habaneros.)

I was very fortunate to discover real ramen back in 2000-2001 ish or so. A Japanese acquaintance of mine let me know of a mom and pop shop in Denver, CO, of all places. I knew of the stuff, but never had it until then. After that, everything changed for me. But it's true that real ramen shops just weren't that trendy throughout most of the country, back then. I could go to Little Tokyo in Los Angeles and get some, but living in New Mexico meant that was a special occasion. But now that new processes have been made, I may have to try a couple of these.

@@Falllll yup. It's the noodle texture. Those noodles spoiled me. Yeah, it's still usually under $2 per package (closer to $1 sometimes) but compared to ones that I can get for less than 50 cents per package it's expensive. Also, compared to those it tastes SOOOO much better and if I'm going to eat so much salt that I shouldn't have anything salty for the rest of the day, I want it to be tasty.

@@dmpenfold4536 The problem is him doubling down on "we strictly prepared every noodle according to the package directions" in the comments. The taste is completely different if you leave too much water and skip stir-frying. You cannot claim to "maintain review objectivity" and prepare something incorrectly, no matter the end results. Of course nobody would be annoyed over the fact if he just admitted to being wrong. But nope! Guess he learned about doubling and tripling down from BetterHelp.
