Personally my favorite is a link between worlds. It’s so much fun to 100% especially compared to the rest of the 2d zeldas. The oracle games are a nightmare to 100% cause rings and multiple play throughs and the fact that a heart piece is hidden behind every single figurine in minish cap is inexcusable and even if that wasn’t there we still have the kinstones making it still a pain to 100%. Also links awakening has some cryptic heart pieces. Comparatively the worst part of a link between worlds is that enemy gauntlet on death mountain. I do think all of these games are great, I just find the overworld exploration to easily be at its best in a link between worlds

I am so thrilled that Minish cap is number one. When Nintendo released the gameboy expansions on the switch, Minish cap was the first one I started playing. I was instantly hit with the realization that I have been missing out on my now third favorite zelda game simply because of hardware accessibility issues. While I do prefer all 6 3D games more and think they are the best 6 games in the series, I’m dead serious I think they are all masterpieces. I still love me some top down. And finally another Minish cal fan. It was my favorite 2d Zelda game before LA got remade on switch. If MC gets a remake, I could honestly see it cracking my top 5 Zelda. U see dungones r my favorite aspect in Zelda and I think MC has the best 2d dungeons in the series simply cuz they be beefy and long. I think most of the 3D zelda games had weaker puzzles and dungeons compared to the 2D games. Which really shouldn't be the case when they have an entirely other dimension to work with. Also the 3D games have notorious amounts of downtime whereas the 2D games put you straight into the action. I like both and if i rated them both together they would overlap but with the top consisting of more of the 2D games.

Personally I think I'd put Zelda 2 and the OG first Zelda at the very bottom, while the multiplayer Zelda's aren't great, they're at least playable. I feel like in the first 2 games they're basically impossible to beat without a guide, or at least access any extra fun content.

so after recently replaying the minish cap i realized a few significant issues i found with the game: it has among the most disorganized and time wasted collectathons which does not help by the fact that the figurines lock a heart piece behind it, the mirror shield is useless because it is a post game item, the light arrows are potentially missable, and kinstones do not have any means to keep track of whom you fused with and when you can. the copy mechanic has a few decent puzzles but one potential problem is how you are forced to use the exact number during each upgrade. shrinking is a good mechanic but outside of castle town and some side quests it is mostly restricted either to a small space or a linear path. like every capcom game, i-frames are almost non-existent during combat and the burn mechanic introduced in four swords is way too punishing. the game also teases you a lot when it comes to exploration where you cannot complete main quest events in advance. now what i did like were some of the dungeons. deepwood is one of the best level 1 dungeons, fortress of winds is a nice callback to dungeon design LA, and dark hyrule castle is a full dungeon which many titles lacked. remote bombs were also a nice item and this game probably has the best castle town.

I would swap ALBW and Minish Cap because Minish Cap has a much smaller world with fewer dungeons. Also it had a huge difficulty spike in the last two dungeons compared to the rest of the game. ALBW also has more replay ability because you can do the dungeons in any order you want and a master quest mode that is unlocked after your first playthrough. Minish Cap does have unique items and enemies for the series so i can't fault it for being number 1 either.

Finally a good ranking! Minish Cap is too overlooked and more people should cHeck it out, really have to agree. Although I am not sure if I agree with 2nd and 3rd place… ALBW did many things better but am I the only one who didn’t like that you can buy all items?! To me it took away the magic of discovering something cool and new in a dungeon,…but the wall merge was great. Just ALTTP has better graphics l- more dark and serious which I liked more. I wish they make a really phenomenal new 2D Zelda game soon. Great video!

Coming off the high of Twilight Princess, I was excited to play Minish Cap because it looked like a 2D Zelda that would mirror that game for me. I didn’t care that the game was super short or that it only had 6 dungeons, because I had heard that the dungeons of MC were the best of the 2D games, which is EXACTLY what I was looking for since ALttP’s dungeons were... well they didn’t leave the best impression on me. Neither did that game in general lol. I also thought the art style was very charming and graphically superior to most of the other 2D Zelda games, an opinion I still generally hold, and it seemed like the combat that I loved so much from TP would have an equivalent here thanks to the optional sword techniques. Sadly, when I finally played the game, there were a few things that killed it for me. For one, the dungeons WERE pretty good. But they still lacked a great atmosphere or inventive puzzle design like the 3D games, which disappointed me quite a bit. For another thing, the combat of Minish Cap ended up suffering from the same issues as TP in that it couldn’t be used to its full potential due to the techniques being optional. And it suffers MORE from this issue because A. The moves Link uses are very stagnant and require a good amount of commitment, if that makes sense and B. Some of the techniques link learns are LITERALLY THE MOST BASIC TECHNIQUES IN ZELDA HISTORY. Next, another much bigger issue I had with MC was the kinstones. I’m perfectly fine with the weird metroidvania style progression seen in the old Zelda games, but the kinstones basically dissuaded me from exploring the world at all because I knew I’d be missing out on something without using the kinstones and it takes too much time to go around fusing kinstones with people and it’s randomized for some of them and it just ruined the exploration of the game for me. Just put random stuff in the world and let me go find it, that’s all I ask. I get that they’re trying to get a lot out of a little by adding more stuff into a smaller world, but the game was already super short so just let me explore the tiny world. And the final nail in the coffin (an extremely subjective nail, mind you) was the ost. The soundfont of this game made me want to stick my ears in a wood chipper. It’s disappointing too, because I did like a lot of the things that MC had going for it. Shrinking is one of the most interesting dual-world mechanics in the series, the art style is gorgeous, the game was short and sweet, the items you acquire are really memorable and interesting like the gust jar, the cane of pacci and the roc’s cape, it’s not bad by any means. It’s still better than Skyward Sword lol. But sadly those things just ruined my time with the game. So I’d give it a 7/10.

Phantom Hourglass is so underrated, I personally put it #3 of all 2D Zeldas only behind LA and ALBW. ST however is dead last for me.
