What I hate about the Temple of the ocean king is when your hourglass, you gotta keep it in check when you leave a safe zone. So tedious.
@qunt1004 жыл бұрын
I remember being on one of the last couple of floors in the dungeon one time, and i was out of time, and out of life as well. Instead of losing instantly like in majoras mask when the timer hits zero, your health just drains. If i had dies, i would have had to restart like 5 or 6 floors earlier. I was almost at the checkpoint. Basically i strategized and found enough safe zones, and then there was this room that i exited and reentered with 2 pots with hearts in them. I just did that for the final floor untill i had a full life guage again. I hadn't had that much trouble in a zelda game since majoras mask. I died a couple times in the great bay temple, and a couple in stone tower temple as well. It was stressful anxiety filled, but it felt so good once i reached the final floor and got extra hourglass time again. Phantom hourglass it sucked for rolling as well. Swiping the screen isn't as easy as it looks.

3DS version is much better for 3 reasons: 1. Boots are an item slot rather than a gear slot 2. When you raise the water to the 2nd level a small cutscene shows you the block floating up to reveal a key room (that cutscene wasn't in the original) 3. The areas that change the water level are marked so you know where to go if you know what to do

+Daniel Harris I'm completely the opposite - The Temple of the Ocean King killed all re-playability of Phantom Hourglass for me. The main issue for me is the time mechanic as I have never liked that sort of thing in any game. Each to their own but I am the type of player who loves to explore and actually enjoys grinding so a time mechanic in a game, especially one as central as in Phantom Hourglass always makes me feel rushed. For that reason I much prefer Spirit Tracks as they still have that central temple but with no time element. It's cool that you enjoy it though as one of the main points of any good video game is to entertain the player.

What if Ruto wrote it and put it in the chest because paper + stomach acid = wad of paste? Also, that isn't water. It's stomach acid. Ruto drowned because acid got in her gills, an event that fish have even less control over than humans. A human can just hold his breath and get out, cleaning the acid off and surviving with nothing missing but their skin and clothes. Basically they'd look like a Titan, but they wouldn't die. Blindness is probably going to happen though. We don't have the most durable eyelids. They are literally just two sheets made of skin with hair on the bottom. A Zora would have the acid burn their gills, because they don't have a choice whether they breathe it in. Her respiratory system was destroyed.

I have to agree with most of your list, but I must say, the Temple of the Ocean King was actually one of my favorites as a kid. I've always enjoyed the stealth mechanic though, and I didn't really find the hourglass to be much of a problem; in fact, when it runs out, you can still survive for a decent amount of time by just sticking to the safe zones as much as possible and drinking life potions. The reason I really loved this temple though is the amount of thought they put into the level design. The shortcuts when you're revisiting old levels are really well thought out, and it was incredibly fun playing through a level you don't need to learn the layout of (because you've already seen it the first time you played it), and suddenly realizing that you can now hit a particular switch, or uncover a wind spout, or even hook together two torches and slingshot yourself onto a hidden ledge, in order to rocket through those levels. Sure, sometimes it was a bit of a chore, but I feel like that can be said about any temple in any game. Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but I just had to share mine. Great video, though!

I never really understood all the stuff about the water temple. I played it for the first time about 10 years ago- when I was 12- and I beat it pretty easily. If I had an n64 when I was about 5 and tried it, I definitely would not be able to do it, though. It's definitely one of the harder dungeons in the game and if you're playing it as a kid then it's probably going to give you a hard time, but if you're an adult or even a teenager I don't see how it could give you a lot of trouble.
@brittanymorin1215 жыл бұрын
You do understand that not all the complaints are focused on the difficulty of the dungeon? I mean the pausing and unpausing in the original to put the boots on was so redundant. Also, happening to miss one key doesn’t really make the dungeon “hard”. More just another annoyance when you’re always backtracking. Although, this isn’t the only dungeon that back tracking is a thing. Idk just saying someone not liking the water temple doesn’t automatically mean it was “too hard”.

Hmm, I actually thought the Great Bay Temple had pretty good flow. The worst of the backtracking is to reverse the water flow, which makes it a clever precursor to the next one (a temple rearranged horizontally leads to one manipulated vertically). Snowpeak was the one that struck me as tedious. Continuously climbing up and down that thing was a pain, especially if you fell at any point.

The tower of spirits is the worst dungeon, entirely because of the last set of floors you have to tackle to get the compass of light. You have to constantly go back and forth between several floors possessing different phantom types and taking them all the way back to we’re you were earlier, and then the later section has you constantly switching phantoms and moving between three different sections to finish all the puzzles, and it was just a huge pain, especially since the puzzles in that last section require constant coordination between link and the Zelda phantom simultaneously. Honestly always thought the griping about the ocean palace was overblown. I enjoy being able to unlock new hidden items and shortcuts upon returning, and aside from the floors where you have to gather force gems, they usually go by pretty quickly on return visits. And you can unlock a warp to skip the early floors entirely after a point. And if you are good at the dungeon and have managed your time well, you can get the third and fourth ocean maps in the same visit, and cut things down more

I'm actually disappointed with the placement of TotOK on this list. It's an extremely well designed dungeon, one of the best in the series. Each time you trek through the temple, you get better at traversing it, finding new paths and ways to use the items you've collected along your adventure. One of my favorite challenges is beating it with full time, which, while not an impossible feat, requires decent knowledge of the many shortcuts and item usage within the temple.

This was a fun video, and while some might not enjoy focusing on the low points of otherwise great games, I personally feel that these are often a shared experience that many if us can rally around; we also struggled there. I was personally curious how far back you would count. I'm an 80s kid, and I've been playing Zelda since before it was a series, bur I know a lot of 20s something content creators haven't played those oldest games, don't want to now, or don't feel they are similar enough to "current" Zelda trends that they need to be included; muskets were a thing, and we wouldn't have e modern firearms without them, and they do have some fans, but they rarely feature in "best guns" or "favorite firearms" videos, so I'm glad to see you were willing to include the oldies. It's also nice that it wasn't just AoL because you might think that game sucks, or is the worst. Personally, I have nostalgia for Adventure of Link, and I HATE Skyward Sword, so it can be funny to watch videos by people who maybe haven't even played Twilight Princess, or Link to the Past, and just rag on AoL because it is old, and so different. I've rambled enough. This was a fun video, and thanks for taking the time.

Currently replaying Majora's Mask and I gotta say, Great Bay Temple is really underrated imo. The mechanic of reversing the flow of water was super straightforward as soon as you enter the dungeon. And you don't have to do a lot of back tracking to change the flow. Once you gain the ability, if you do have to back track, all you have to do is go back to the first room, which is connected to the water flow room with the branching paths, and switch it. So it's not like you have to go to multiple rooms or sections of the dungeon to do it. Also, as long as you're looking for the stray fairies, I didn't think most of them were hard to find and I didn't end up having to reroute the flow of water once. I also really love how the color-coded pipes lead you through the dungeon. I didn't get lost even once despite it having been years since I played through this game. To add to all that, I really loved the big eye mini-boss. Super fun to face off and actually mildly challenging considering it's just a mini-boss. Though I will say, I didn't care for the main boss at the end of the dungeon. Still, I feel this dungeon gets a lot of hate because people compare it to the Water Temple in OOT so much, but I found that Great Bay Temple was way easier to get through, and fun at that. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions and this is a great video. I'm not in any way trying to disregard anyone else's feelings, this is just my take based on my current playthrough. P.S. the music absolutely SLAPS lol
