This was a great tier list the only one that I was surprised to see this low was Super Mario Bros 2, sure the game it's great but I thought it was fun and a little more fun than the first one in my opinion plus it was the first Mario game where you can play as different character and I could be wrong on the this but if they didn't make this game we possible wouldn't have gotten characters/enemies like Shy Guys, Snifits, Pokey, Bomb-ombs, Ninji's, and Birdo, but like I said great tier list if I would have to say my favorite Mario game is probably Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 I could choose what I think is better but I can't decide so I love them both the same

64ds is my favorite version of the game personally, but the original 64 is amazing as well. I loved the multiplayer and mini games in sm64ds making me personally place it over 64.

I cannot disagree more about your opinion of Super Mario 64 DS. I do understand the gripe about the controls if you were used to the original (Which I was not) but I think that they were improved tenfold. The movement system is not 8 directions, like 3D Land/World. It uses an automatic turning system (A la Spyro the Dragon) to simulate 3D movement, which admittedly does seem rather imprecise at times. But besides that, DS has the same control scheme later used in 3D Land, 3D World, and Odyssey. Mario 64 DS added full camera control and an OOT-style camera lock, and the only stars it replaced were the ones no one cared about (Like the 5 secrets in the pyramid). It also has massively improved graphics and a TON of bonuses. I respect your opinion, but I just think you're wrong.

Pretty solid tier list, that’s pretty similar to mine, only really noticeable differences for me, is that land would be lower, odyssey would be lower, while Sunshine and Galaxy 2 would be higher, but pretty good overall. Also, you getting the 3D All Stars collection or what?

I can't understand why people sleep so hard on Sunshine and the NSMB series. Sure Sunshine has a garbage camera system but 64's is horrendous. Sure NSMB is unoriginal but the levels are so fun to fly through and it's still one of the best 2D platformers out there. I feel like a lot of the older game's shortcomings are over looked. I usually rank them lower than even the NSMB series

I mostly agree with your list. The only changes I would've made were: 1. Put Super Mario Bros. in A tier for setting the standard of gaming as a whole. 2. Bump The Lost Levels to the top of C tier. 3. Put Super Mario Land 2 near the top of B tier but slightly below New Super Mario Bros. 4. Put New Super Mario Bros. U below Super Mario Land because in my opinion every New Super Mario Bros game after the original felt lazy and uninspired and overall didn't have much to offer. (The final boss of of NSMBU was one of the best 2D boss fights in the franchise's history I'll say that much) 5. Bump Super Mario 3D Land to the middle of B tier since the game overall felt a bit too safe. 6. Put New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Wii under Super Mario 64 DS. 7. Put Super Mario Galaxy 2 in S tier below the first one. I feel like the game added enough gameplay-wise to stand on ts own as on of the best video games of all time such as new level ideas, bigger levels and even more spectacular boss fights. 8. Put Super Mario Maker 2 over Super Mario 3D World. 9. Put Super Mario Odyssey at the top of S-tier. But that's just my personal opinion it was interesting to see yours.

I don't get why nobody understands this. this game's aged terribly. even though it's influential, there's no reason to play this game when the other mario games do the same things but better. I'd honestly say the same things about mario 64. it's influential but painfully outdated, and isn't the best in the series by a long shot. I agree with your statements about the NSMB series though. the first one's great, but the others just feel like the same game.

@@sooubic I don't think I even need to explain why the original super mario bros has aged badly. it speaks for itself. the controls are terrible, the graphics are primitive, the damage system is flawed, the level design is filled with what people would call trolls today, and it's just generally not a fun experience at all. I hate the idea of calling an outdated game/movie/whatever better than everything else just because it was good "for its time."

In my opinion, it does so much right and those things make is a masterpiece, but there are quite a bit of problems holding it back, blue coins, terrible controls in some areas, a bit lazy at times, must collect first seven shines in the levels. But other than this, it’s a complete masterpiece, I may have made it seem like I don’t like this game but that is not true, I love this game even though it has all of the problems that I just mentioned. Anyway, this is just my opinion and I respect yours.

The positions for the original game boy games are ridiculous. Mario 64 DS and even the original Mario for the NES aged far better than the Land series. The first Mario land is so awful by today standards that is just unplayable. And the fact that both game boy games are placed as being better than most of the New Super Mario Bros, or even 3D World and 3D Land, is just crazy. Completely illogical. I think those two placements ruined this ranking completely. Otherwise it would have been nice. Both Land games should be at D tier or C tier at best. Then I don’t agree with Mario 64 being the best. Nintendo kept improving their 3D platforms, so there is no way it’s still the best. Odysse, Galaxy, are far better than 64 by a large margin. But that at least is more debatable and doesn’t bother me as much as the placement of the Land Game Boy games.

Dobule standard right there putting Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 on top after admitting earlier to preferring quicker gameplay. SMW committed the sin of taking the straightforward Mario style in the exploration, where it doesn't work as well as, say, Super Mario 2, and Mario 64 went even further. World was also easier and had less variety (in level styles and powerups) than 3. Great stuff, but a step back.

I like super Mario land I agree with u. Loved the music the gameplay was tight and I loved the flying missions. It was short but it was a handheld game for a system that ran on batteries.

Because Super Mario 64 DS was my first Mario game, I guess I have a sweet spot for it. It’s A tier in my book 💛 I’ve played both now and think it is better controls wise and gameplay wise

The one major disagreement I have is Super Mario Bros. 2 (the American version) deserves to be at least a C if not a B. It was the first game where you can play as Peach and Toad. You would have to wait untiI the next century for another game where you could play as them. I liked that each character had their own unique abilities. In Mario 1 and 3 Liugi is just Mario on St. Patrick's day and has the same abilities. The boss fights are arguably more cool than the boss fights in Mario 3 and definitely Mario 1. People who say its a Doki Doki rip off need to realize that the people who own Doki Doki also own Mario.

I would completely agree with this if you had put 64 ds above 64. Imo 64 ds is better in every way. Better controls imo, better camera, more characters, more levels, more stars, better graphics, multi-player, extra mini games. But other than that I completely agree

Personally I loved new super mario bros on the DS. The game looked great. Played great. Great levels. Awesome final level. But the mini games also helped make that game amazing for me

You’re missing super Mario land 3 and super Mario world 2 which are both technically main series games with the Mario name. Also Mario 64 ds is fantastic and definitely should be in the A tier so it’s a little disappointing to see you put it at C because of your nostalgia for the original clouding your judgement of its remake. Besides that good list
