You're both comparing it to other games from the same company. There are MANY more video games than souls games. Compared to those, DS1 is incredibly challenging. Of course squatting 500lbs is relatively easy to 600lbs, but to someone that squats 3 or 4, has a long road ahead of them.

Shadow of the erdtree has 3 ten out of ten bosses. Messmer, bayle and midra. Idk why you forgot midra but he has the best buildup of any boss in the dlc and his cutscene is amazing and his fight is super fair and smooth and is literally perfect in every way.

Only reason I keep midra out of 10/10 was that he was super easy for me but I do agree he is a phenomenal boss

Realistically what does DS2 do better than the rest of the Soulsborne lineup? It feels like DS, Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring have advantages over one another, even if it's just a flavor preference, but the consensus seems like DS2 does things well enough, it just doesn't do anything better than any of their other games in the last 15 years, other than maybe Demon Souls. I guess New Game Plus seems interesting, but if that's it, I see why many fans just skip it outright.

@@geordiejones5618 DS2 does many thing right actually. A lot of people got mad over the addition of the stat that nerfed the I-frame of rolls (adaptability) and you had to spend a bunch of points in them to make them feel like ds1/DS3/ER, but if you time your rolls well it doesn't matter. It has the best HUB of all souls, ER included. It invented the mechanic of power stancing and had a lot of unique weapons movesets, making it the most liked souls in PvP. It started the bonfires that served as waypoints like in ds3. By no means is it a flawless game, but I'd play it over DS1 any day, especially its DLCs.

​It's one of those games that's definitely not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. And also by your logic Elden Ring objectively speaking is the best soulsbourne out there. Does that mean the previous games aren't worth playing? Absolutely not. Every soulsbourne is worth playing (ideally chronologically in order to appreciate the innovations added with each title). Even though I'll admit it's weakest in the line up, it happens to be the worst out of a very good bunch, hell I'll even list down a couple for things I really enjoyed: -PvP was one of the best imo. -The weapon variety was the best upto that point. -Bonfire ascetics were an amazing addition that I'm surprised didn't come back. -Gave birth to power stancing. If ds2 didn't experiment and take risks, we wouldn't have some of the masterpieces we love today imo. ​@@geordiejones5618

@@Basketweave That part is a big one yeah, I wish I could have that in elden ring, NG+ is a complete chore and the replayability of the DLC in ng+ is honestly not as good as I'd hoped...

There's no fucking way ashes of ariandel is better than ds1's DLC, even if Friede is great a DLC's quality can't be based on a single boss. I understand your gripes with DS1's combat but it's really not as bad as you paint it

Ironically the DLC of DS2 are arguably some of the hardest of all souls like, they are always the scariest part by far for speedrunners. For the Elden Ring DLC, my biggest issue is the lack of ancient smith stone bell. You get like 6 ancient ones and 8 somber ancient ones, for like 110 new weapons. That's stupid imho, biggest regret of the DLC.
