I agree that the drawing is amazingly impressive and better than anything I could do but I also understand her reasoning. Her art is generally so creative and interesting while also being just as technically impressive as this one, while the coloured pencil portrait is nothing more than replication.

Girl! Paint in realism if you want! Make self portraits if you want! While pushing ourselves to try new things and be “avant-garde” is amazing for growth and discovery, I think a lot of people forget the most fundamental aspect about art! That it’s subjective! There’s no right way to go about it! What makes something truly evocative isn’t it’s style or composition or even skill. It’s your perspective. Remember on your journey to grow as an artist that your enjoyment about the process is the most important. We all go through periods where we aren’t satisfied with our work, or struggle in some aspect, but it’s the joy of creating that keeps us, well creating! You have a strong artistic voice already, so keep playing and having fun and doing whatever you what! (It’s totally punk rock!) ❤
