So here it is, a top ten that I have been wanting to do for quite some time and that is my top ten Yakuza games. A now very popular series of beat em up games that take place in Japan and are just some of the best open world games you can play from the last ten years. Actually just beat 0 and heading into the first one for the first time. I've ignored the entire series until I saw the remasters about a month ago. I played the first one as a kid a little bit, but 0 gives you a look into Majima and how he became so eccentric. Two young men, naive in the world go through so much shit that it forces them to grow up and figure out who they really are. So I completely agree with the emotionally connected aspect of what you said.

Im here because of the $1 i spent back in december for xbox gamepass and i got gamepass until march 14, and im debating if i can beat the entirety of the yakuza games in 1 month but im afraid i got too carried away in yakuza 0 with the sidequests. I started with yakuza 0 i absolutely hated kiwami because of the bosses and now im absolutely loving kiwami 2 but im afraid if i do all the sidequests in kiwami 2 i wont be able to reach yakuza 4 let alone 5. Got any tips? My time is running out and i work a full time job :(

I will always have a soft spot for yakuza 3 as it was the game that i started with that made me fall in love with the series. I really enjoyed 6, memorable characters and i enjoyed the story. I really liked 5 but felt that there was too much going on to the point where it felt messy sometimes. Yakuza 0 really was perfect in every way and i have been feeling the itch to play it again. I have just finished yakuza 7 which I’ve really enjoyed. I thought i would hate the new turn based combat system but i was pleasantly surprised and it worked well.

what I've learned about dead souls is that they still acknowledge it in Judgement which is cool a spin-off game within a spin-off game because my sis and I had so much pain going through dead souls but yet going through was worth it. The credits sort of makes up for it and you can just speed run the game.

also the last boss fight was creative but however very creepy and the mechanics of shooting the heart with some cronenberg stuff and the reason of why zombies want to affect each other. I didn't like the shooting the system because I don't think the system they were using which didn't help when your crosshairs lock-on already and it swings to the other side which I don't like. If they had made a new system to make the combat better and take their time to make new models for the new combat system that is design for shooting that's ok but I can just tell they used the system they were using from the other games which doesn't work.

@Izanagi dude I just say above how bad the game is and my take on the game. There is a difference of watching it than playing it. When you go out and fight zombies, it's bad and there is no variety to the enemies or like points of the game where I don't feel threatened. They tried to do like a resident evil 4-6 type of game but my guess why it fails is that they didn't have enough time to build a new engine from the ground up and had a little more time or had the time they recode the combat but they wanted to pump the game out so quick and they don't want to make new models for the new engine that they're never going to use again. They used the same combat system from the other games but reworked it poorly with bad camera angles whenever you want to shoot the zombie's heads to kill them faster but the game has already has that bad lock on feature that you can't disable or you don't know how to turn it off because the game doesn't tell you like they did in DMC 2. They didn't fix the frame rate that becomes bad when you have 30 zombies in a room. However I will praise the stuff you do inside the city because it's just the same as any other yakuza game and it's actually fun doing the karaoke and just ignore the story for like 10 hours if you want. But most people who play game don't really care about that kind of gameplay I guess. In my opinion, I'll choose to play Dead Souls over DMC 2 because either one game can burn in hell and that is DMC 2.

I loved the individual stories in all of the games. I always felt like there were things that just happened game to game as convenience for the current game storyline to work, though. Like Sayama was willing to die for Kiryu because she loved him so much in 2. But then in 3 like two weeks after 2 she takes off for the states by choice, and neither she nor Kiryu seems to care that the last game happened. Like 'Well we don't really want to write about a romance for Kiryu in this game. So off she goes!'. And like at the end of four, Kiryu seems awfully 'in' the family to the degree, that him being so far 'out' of it by five, seems a bit goofy. But every Yakuza game has to begin with Kiryu not being Yakuza so he could be dragged back into it. So it was written that way.

Played 1 and 2 back when i had a backwards compatible 60gb ps3 (in 2011) and i remember they were excellent stories but i had a major back injury that year so everything is fuzzy from the painkillers i was on for a long while. Jumped back in with 0 a couple years ago and now have gotten caught up to 4 which for the record, the remaster collection is excellent in 1080p and a perfect unwavering 60fps. Saving Judgment for after i get through 5 and 6. Also: good list buddy. Love this damn series

Well it ranks #3 on my ranking of the Yakuza games as Zero and Kiwami 1 are better overall thank it's stories. However Yakuza 6 still tells a great story and it's definitely #1 if my ranking was based only on gameplay as the dragon engine is pretty awesome! imho

I remember I actually enjoyed dead souls a lot, especially for its crazy and almost silly story - sure, the controls weren't the best but as someone who wasn't playing shooters back then I found them helpful! 4 was the title that made me fall in love with the series. 0 and 6 are both absolutely amazing, tho I do agree that the leveling system in 6 is not really my taste either. I have yet to play 5 because it came out here as a ps3 exclusive during a time where my ps4 had already replaced my old baby. Bought the remastered a few days ago. Like a dragon is somewhere at the top for me as well, despite not being a big fan of the fighting system. But the story and characters are amazing.

I've played and platinumed Yakuza 0 - 7 and one thing I hate is the part of that finale where people will be reunited and the other people will get shot and die because Kiryu and the group did not properly subdue the enemy and there's always a weapon near the enemy. I swear, it happened to all the games aside from 0 (which probably why it is may favorite among the others, even 7)

Yakuza 3 rendered at 1024 x 768 which was pretty fine for SD and even HD-ready (720p) TVs at the time. In fact, it looked awesome to most of us used to the 480p Playstation games. If you are playing in 4K or even 1080p, then ofc it will look blurry and pixelated. That's just how resolutions work. The image being produced by the PS3 is being stretched to fit the output of your display.

I understand saying that the original 1 and Dead Souls aren’t that good of games, but literally all of the others are indisputably good. Especially their stories, 3 and 6 are arguably some of the most personal and grounded stories in the series, and don’t deserve the bashing you kinda gave it Honestly you should give the entire series and its story more love, cause outside of 0 and 5 you seem to either not care about the story itself at all or outright say that it wouldn’t be that good without the amazing cast. These games are probably one of the best series narratives I’ve experienced, up there with stuff like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Witcher (I know this is blasphemy to some, but this is honestly one of the most well done narratives in a series I’ve seen so far lol)

They were trying to make Nishiki more sympathetic by introducing a sister in Kiwami but that completely fucked up Kazama's character. Why didn't Nishiki go to Kazama for help? Surely Kazama would gladly help one of his foster children who is in a LIFE THREATENING condition, right? No? Why? It just doesn't make any goddamn sense.

He was a new patriarch of a new family, going to a parent family in a big time clan like the Tojo for personal help is exceptionally difficult at best, and more often than not straight impossible. Maybe if they were smaller time like the Ryudo from 3, or maybe even parts of lesser organizations like the Yomei from 6, but the Tojo is the premier organization in Japan. It wouldn’t be possible. And even if it were, why would he expect anything good to come of going to beg at Kazama’s feet when Kashiwagi, who was basically his uncle and is Kazama’s 2nd in command, is already thinking so poorly of him? It wouldn’t make a lick of sense if Nishiki DID go to Kazama, everything was stacked against that interaction. Plus all of the sister stuff was canon from the original release too, it was just further clarified in Kiwami with those cool cutscenes That’s the main type of thing I see people not realizing with some stories such as Yakuza. The vast majority of complaints people have are more of a misconception or confusion than an actual failing of writing. Like outside of Joji’s existence being kinda poorly handled in 3, I haven’t seen a single actual plot hole in the entire series, even tho some people claim there’s tons in what I thought were fairly straight forward plots. I get the games can be confusing sometimes, they’re meant to be. But I’ve never been so confused as to not see what’s going on personally lol. I hope that everyone who was gets their questions answered so they can enjoy the story 110%

@@hisholiness4537 nah the problem with Kazama is that he never cared enough, for any of the kids. Despite trying to atone for making kids orphans by taking them in, the point of his arc is that even though he got better it was far too little too late. It’s stated a ton that Kiryu is his favorite child by far, and even he got very little special treatment. Outside of Kazama’s belief in him and seemingly not being too upset with Kiryu ruining the Jingewon negotiations in 2, there’s not really much. No explanations for most anything, and any explanations that do come are out of necessity. No money to bail him out of jail when he absolutely had money to at least shorten the sentence. Kazama is a very interesting character, but father of the year to even Kiryu he is not lol For Nishiki, he was too busy trying to deal with all of the stuff concerning Yumi, the fake Mizuki, Jingu, Sera, Shimano, Terada/Kim, etc. So for him, sending Kashiwagi (who isn’t very much more understanding than he is) to deal with Nishiki was his go to plan. A bad one, but it makes sense for his character. No matter how unfortunate it is

Yakuza 5 was the first Yakuza game I played when I first got my PS3 in early 2016. It was my favorite game to play on it but I only played it when I had PS Plus Free Trial so I could only play it for about a month. Still, a fun month that was playing it

It goes without saying, I don't necessarily agree with the placements on your list, but this is your list. One thing I will comment on though, I'm pleasantly surprised you ranked Yakuza 5 so high. Personally, I absolutely enjoyed Yakuza 5 even though the story was just way too big for its own good. Akiyama's TKD is probably my favorite fighting style in the series. I also loved Shinada's arc. His fighting style was also quite enjoyable to use. I find that the Yakuza games have more value if they have more variety in the combat. Granted, I did love playing as Kiryu in the first few games. But starting Yakuza 3, I was definitely tired of seeing the same four-hit attack string. Yakuza 4 fixed this by giving us 4 very different fighting styles as well as 3 new playable characters. Yakuza 5 built on this even further by giving each character their own individual mechanics. Yakuza 0 further improved on this by giving each character 4 styles. That being said, I felt that it was a step back when Yakuza 6, once again, introduced a single combo string for our protagonist. I'm hoping future Yakuza games will allow for this variety. There are so many different fighting styles portrayed in Yakuza, it's a shame that these unique styles are only deployed by NPC's. I'd love to see a Yakuza protagonist use Muay Thai, Judo, Karate, etc.

Dead Souls has everything you'd want from a Yakuza game, but the shooting does get repetitive and some characters that should've been aren't very memorable. Maybe it gets better after the first part, since I've only watched a playthrough but you should just give it a try if you can and see for yourself.

I liked all the yakuza games , except for the zombie spinoff. it’s prety repeatative by now the gameplay because they all play similar but the new dragon engine makes it more engaging to play and plus with the new lost judgement spinoff it adds some decent detective gameplay to freshen the gameplay a bit. Overall it’s a excellent series. I would say yakuza 3 is my fav in the series because of the story it was more east to follow.

Yakuza 3 is in my top 3 atleast. It stresses me out the least, if I remember correctly. I also thought the plotpoints more believable as they arent as twistyweird. Could remember wrong. But chilling in okinawa is just great and a Vibe they never managed to bring back.

I'd include judgement as a yakuza game, the only difference is the title, and that you play as someone other than kiryu. I mean if your going to include deadsouls which is a pretty big departure from the series, it seems weird judgement wouldn't be in the list.

I think your list is too gameplay/graphics-focused for a story based series. Like yakuza 4 has great combat but the story is badly written and a lot of the plot points/twists are really dumb so I don't think it's justified to rank it this high when the story is the main focus but that's just my opinion.

Arai is supposed to be “really smart” and strong as Akiyama said, but he FAILS TO NOTICE THAT MUNAKATA ISNT BLEEDING WHEN HE SHOT HIM. And then there’s Saejima’s shootout, and you’d really expect him to notice that his bullets aren’t penetrating through but he just…doesn’t? You’re free to your own opinion but to me it’s just that Y4 suffers from a rare disease called…”too much rubber”

Im here because of the $1 i spent back in december for xbox gamepass and i got gamepass until march 14, and im debating if i can beat the entirety of the yakuza games in 1 month but im afraid i got too carried away in yakuza 0 with the sidequests. I started with yakuza 0 i absolutely hated kiwami because of the bosses and now im absolutely loving kiwami 2 but im afraid if i do all the sidequests in kiwami 2 i wont be able to reach yakuza 4 let alone 5. I think the Soul Orb system in 4 and 5 is an underrated EXP system. It's always amazing to see how much they improved it in 4 compared to the system in 3, which was god awful.

@@fernfaith yeah, Majima's story is the better than all of yakuza kiwami but kiryu's 0 story only gets actually good a few times (nishiki, tachibana's death and kuze). In Kiwami kiryu story was better in my opinion

@@fernfaith kuze didn't need so many fights. The fourth one and the second one were so good. The fourth wouldn't be so good without the first though. But the third fight was horrible. At each fight kuze is better except the third one. But Chapter 15 I think is what saved Kiryu's story until now. (I am at chapter 17 in kiryu part). Kiwami otherwise, has Haruka, who makes Kiryu better. And Kiryu Real Estate minigame was... Disappointing. Its not bad at all but Majima's is so cool that Kiryu's is kinda forgettable. I hope Kiryu's story in Kiwami 2 is better than even Kiwami
