My favorite character throughout these sequels was easily Littlefoot’s grandfather mainly due to Kenneth Mars’s performance. Unfortunately Kenneth Mars passed away in 2011 and while his replacement in the 14th wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t the same

@@D_Macabre I do think it was indeed sad especially since he was retired from acting by 2008 because of his battle with cancer(probably why Grandpa wasn’t in 13) and I don’t even know if anyone who worked on 13 ever thought a 14th was gonna happen. I do wish he was able to do one more or be able to play king Triton one last time. He apparently wanted to play Triton again for Ariel’s beginning but due to his health he couldn’t

The land before time series is something I used to have so much fondness for as a kid (considering that every kid had an obsession with dinosaurs or space which was totally me with both) I would usually zone out and rewatch them with our barely functional vhs set but learning that this thing continued to get sequels in 2016 was genuinely surprising like yeah I knew there was a show but that's certainly news, good video by the way it brings an odd sense of nostalgia

16:18 I can answer this one. Once an animal gets to a certain size, they're able to maintain their body heat on their own. It's called Gigantothermy. Dinosaurs, at least the large ones, are believed to be Gigantotherms.

The first movie is so nostalgic for me, I loved this series. It was also nice that it had so many sequels and went on for so long that I loved it as a kid and then I was also able to watch it as I got older and started babysitting. It was one of the only things I could put on that wasn’t insufferable and I think I enjoyed it as much as the kids! Also, the eggs boys are absolutely iconic 🥚

Oooooh, this is a fun topic. Here's my ranking that nobody asked for: #12: Great Day for Flyers, Wisdom of Friends, and Journey of the Brave - I have not seen any of these three films, and ultimately do not have a desire to do so, so I have no opinions on these three. #11: Journey to Big Water - Mo is too annoying for my liking, and everyone survives the final battle "just 'cause". Not that I wanted them not to, but there's no genuine conclusion. It just stops. #10: Invasion of the Tinysauruses - Cookie cutter "liar reveal" plot, and I personally don't care for those types of stories. I make exceptions if the story is engaging enough, but as the 10th movie, it's kinda meh. Harmless fluff. #9: The Great Longneck Migration - As much as I like the stuff with Littlefoot and his dad, I genuinely didn't get that invested in it. I was perfectly content with the unorthodox family unit Littlefoot had, and the lack of a father gave the death of his mother more weight. It's cool his dad is still kicking, but because they waited too long to address the fact he existed at all, it personally undercuts some of what came before. #8: The Stone of Cold Fire - Nostalgia fuel for my childhood held back but my hatred for Pterano and my annoyance with Petrie. It's one thing to not want to believe that a family member is corrupt, but Petrie's close friends were either abducted or almost murdered because of his uncle, so his blind defending of him is annoying and unjustified. #7: The Secret of Saurus Rock - I genuinely kinda liked the simplicity of this plot, because the entirety of it is just setup for making the audience remember how cool Grandpa Longneck is. #6: The Big Freeze - Spike is easily the most forgotten character in the gang and is the one who gets taken for granted the most as he's usually just there to be "the dumb fat one". This film not only makes you care about him more, but the influence he has on his sister and especially his mother is beautiful to watch, especially as an adult. #5: The Great Valley Adventure - Honestly most of the first few sequels are close in quality to me, so my rankings at this point are based on arbitrary likes and dislikes. In the case of this one, it's because my favorite parts of the film aren't the main focus or all that important. For instance, my favorite scene is the parents coming together to fend off the Sharpteeth. It paints a beautiful sense of community and teamwork for all the herds, and the knowledge you have of why they're there in the first place adds layers to the fighting. Apart from that, the villains are annoying and while I understand all of the sequels are musicals, the fact this is the second movie makes the genre switch jarring. #4: The Mysterious Island - The only two parts I love that stand out are the locust invasion and the migration scenes resulting from it. Apart from that, my love for this film extends exclusively from the Big Water song and the return of Chomper, and while I love these elements, there's elements in a couple of other films I love more that are less fueled by mere nostalgia. #3: Journey through the Mists - I didn't realize this until later on in life, but Grandpa Longneck is easily my favorite character in the series, and this film had me thinking we were going to lose him. Not only that, but as much as the urgency regarding Grandpa's health affected me as a child, this film now hits me in more aggressive ways as an adult, mostly through Grandma. Between her husband falling ill with little chance of survival, and her grandson, while brave and thoughtful, foolishly wandering off hoping to find the cure, I guarantee that she was mentally preparing for the likely outcome that she was about to lose her entire family. Between that and her mournful lullaby, which personally utilizes the concept of the Circle of Life better than Disney does (fight me), this movie is a special addition to the franchise. I also tolerate the villains way more here than in Movie 2. Yes, they're still annoying, but their annoying bickering highlights their differences and variety as predators, which I love. Not only does this present new variables to the danger they present, but because of those variables (such as their size and maneuverability), there's opportunities for the kids to actually fight back, which is something of a rarety when it comes to Sharpteeth. #2: The Time of Great Giving - This was actually the first of the films I ever saw, and it's what my nostalgia for the franchise as a whole is based on. I could gush endlessly about this one, but I'll try to be brief. The Sharpteeth were varied, unique, and interesting. The fight against the Sharpteeth felt more epic than usual as there was urgency, stakes, foreshadowing, and great performances from the adults when handling the crisis while also protecting the kids (shout-out to Hyp's dad). Grandpa was noble regarding the fire, Hyp and Mr. Threehorn's songs were bangers, I actually like how Mr. Threehorn, while a jerk, took initiative for the sake of the Valley, and once again the sense of community is on full display. I love this film so much that I use the title as an excuse to watch it every Thanksgiving. #1: The Land Before Time - There's literally nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. Wonderful movie. As you can tell, this was a fun topic, and this awesome video unlocked ny childhood briefly, so thanks for that. Awesome video.

I plan on rewatching them sometime but as of right now here is my ranking with 5 stars being great, 4 stars being good, 3 stars being mediocre, 2 stars being bad and 1 star being awful: 1) The Land Before Time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2) Journey Through the Mists ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3) The Stone of Cold Fire ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4) The Great Longneck Migration ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5) Journey of the Brave ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6) The Mysterious Island ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7) The Great Valley Adventure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8) The Time of the Great Giving ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 9) The Big Freeze ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10) The Great Day of the Flyers ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 11) The Secret of Saurus Rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 12) Journey to Big Water ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 13) Invasion of the Tinysauruses ⭐️⭐️ 14) The Wisdom of Friends ⭐️

What a refreshing video on the LBT franchise! Most of the review videos I see on KZbin tend to fixate on the big quality difference between the first movie and its sequels and just... can't seem to let it go, to the point where most of the time is just spent ranting and taking cheap shots at direct-to-video movies whose primary goal is to occupy kids. It was lovely to hear a grounded but humorous reflection coming from a place of genuine nostalgic fondness.

@@justincarawan-carawanco.pu1639 Doggerland certainly resembled an Eden to those who survived the great inundation of the place, and when it finally succumbed for good to rising sea levels, the knowledge of the time before the inundation was being passed on second and third hand, and the perspective on it was quickly lost. It was a similar case with the region that is now the Black Sea. Those who remembered life before the disaster had memories tainted by nostalgia, and their immediate descendants quickly forgot a large part of the timeline in the retelling. Now, lest you think that I am some sort of atheist, I reject the Abrahamic models, but not the concept of God. I especially reject the notion that such a rejection equals atheism. Theologically speaking, I refuse to ride the Christian/Atheist merry-go-round.

I have seen them all. After rewatching them I can say they are a fun thing to see every few years since I used to love them so much. But they are indeed more geared to kids. Thats the audience they were shooting for so its hard to be picky as an adult. The only one I really really don’t like is Wisdom. It was just… to out there for me. I also wish they had brought in Shorty for the last movie considering it was about Littlefoot’s dad Bron. And Bron takes care of Shorty… so it feels like Shorty as an adopted kid just kinda got stiffed. Unless theres some reason they had for not bringing him in??? I have a few person irritations or gripes but honestly its still fantasy. They are cartoons meant to be family friendly. It is what it is.

I remember being a nut for this movies at first. I personally like 2 and 5 among the sequels. I stopped after 6, I was hype for it at first but later no felt too silly, but I was almost a teen so I was way old to appreciate this ones. Seen you and Marzgurls reviews of this sequels and some of them really sounds painful to watch, the 2016 one I can appreciate they keept the animation style after so many years but now I don´t think there will be more. I am sure some kind of reboot will happen eventually but I do love the first movie for one of Don Bluths best. To bad about all the cut content, being so many minutes they would make a killing selling the "Complete version" of it.

I'm not as big a fan of the first movie as most people, mostly due to the narrator's constant presence. I don't need an omniscient voice telling me what to take away from a scene, especially when the scene does that well enough on its own. Bugged me even as a kid.

Fun retrospective, especially to compare and contrast with past efforts like Marzgurl's. The first one is indeed a classic, and I think the "cutesy" backlash is way overblown. Also, the supporting songs must be worse than I remember for "When Your Big" to get praise. It feels like the song form of "what up, fellow kids - who are big?"
