Zygarde was not on the list because 1) in X & Y there was, like, no fanfare to him? Like, I didn't even know he existed until months later? Eternatus and Mewtwo had better clues to them. And 2) he next appeared as a collect-a-thon prize. Not a legendary to be feared. I guess I stick him more as an Easter egg or mythical than an actual box legendary.

The main reason for Solgaleo being a lion is due to the alchemic symbol of the lion that devours the sun, which would fit it's steel type and how much metals are focused on in alchemy.

So, the reason Solgaleo is a lion is because he's a reference to alchemy. He's referred to as the "beast that devours the sun" and a lion eating the sun is a common symbol in alchemy, and Galileo, one of the influences in Solgaleo's etymology, was a confirmed believer in alchemy. It's honestly some of my favorite design lore in the series

There was clearly the intended order to see the 1st Anime before Brotherhood with how the 1st 13 Episodes of the latter were. Many spoilers for the 1st anime are just glossed over such as the Final Homuculus Identity in that series. Sailor Moon on the other hand doesn't really matter whether you watch 90s Anime or Crystal 1st because the series are much more different. There aren't really any huge spoilers for the 1st Anime that Crystal reveals. Of course the Cosmos movie may end up changing that.

Let's add to the reason why Giratina is the best legendary by these standards... Character growth. No, seriously, Giratina has character growth. Legends Arceus has Giratina try to remake the world to get back at Arceus for its banishment... But, in gen 4's Platinum, it is the one to stop Cyrus's plan. Not the player, not Cynthia, Giratina. And Cyrus's plan isn't to dissimilar to Volo's. Plus... I believe that the text in Platinum states that Giratina is studying you calmly prior to your fight to try to catch it, like as though you remind it of the trainer that calmed it in the past.

Exactly, I was hoping Ari and Count would mention that…Because you end up humbling it in the past by defeating it in a rather harrowing battle, it decides to protect and fight alongside humans instead, and essentially becomes Poke’Batman, watching over and protecting man and Pokémon from the shadows, and striking fear into those unfortunate and/or foolish enough to provoke it’s fury. You showed it the strength of the bonds between people and Pokémon, and now it fights to protect those bonds…And I think that’s really fuckin’ neato.

Guiding souls to the underworld has consistently been associated with the Ghost type, as has bringing death via the Litwick evolutionary family, so Yveltal is part of the unusually high number of Pokémon that would easily work with STAB that they lack without making any design changes. However, the path we got is serviceable as well.

I agree with Griatina being creepy as hell. I always liked that it was so feared, yet so necessary to the creation trio. You can't have light without shadow, matter without anti-matter. As a long time comic fan, his intro in Platinum gave me serious flashbacks to Crisis on Infinite Earths. If fictional characters had their own pokemon teams, the Giratina would definitely be under the thrall of the Anti-Monitor (or Darkseid in a pinch).

Giratina is a favorite legendary of mine too and apparently according to the pokemon lore, Giratina was banished to the distortion world by Arceus due to it's violent behavior which adds a coolness to Giratina who controls antimatter

Knock Off You know, that move that already does 65 damage but if your holding an item it's damage gets increased by 50% And like, half of all pokemon can learn it, and with items being vital to competitive you can absolutely expect at least one pokemon to know it. Lugia at first was going to be an anime exclusive, but Pokémon Company loved the design and lore so much that they gave it its own game, that's why in second gen we got three versions: Gold, Silver and Crystal.

There's actually a huge amount lore regarding Zacian and Zamazenta and about Eternatus first arrival into the Galar region with almost every town and city having some kind of connection with it. However, you're confusing the fake legend of the darkest day (the one that talks about a hero that saved the galar region with a sword and a shield) with the actual (lost and rediscovered) legend of the darkest day (the one that talks about how Zacian and Zamazenta were the ones that saved the Galar region from tbe darkest day 3000 years ago). And that they were summoned by the ancestors of Swordward and Shieldbert (just like you, the player and Hop also did using the lost relics to summon them) to save the region. Not to mention that the design and lore of every legendary in Galar is heavily tied to several constelations. It's actually pretty cool.

Well, this was definitely interesting. While not in tier list order, my favourites in no order are; - Giratina (SS rank highly deserved) - Mewtwo (Glad he didn’t get the Charizard treatment, because he’s awesome and completely agree with what you two said) - Rayquaza (I love my green awesome emerald dragon boy) - Kyogre (Groudon is cool but I got Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire cause I prefer Kyogre) - Zekrom (The second I saw him I wanted him, love my edgy black dragon) - Xerneas (Yveltal is cool but Xerneas is so much more appealing to me) - Hooh (Gold was the game that got me hooked into Pokémon and I don’t think I would be interested if it wasn’t for the original Phoenix) - Dialga (Same reasons you two said in the video) I wish Zygarde got the third game treatment and improved upon X and Y like Platinum did with Diamond and Pearl. He has a cool concept and lore, so under-utilised.

So, Gamefreak classifies Legendaries as Pokémon that are catchable within the game, via in-game events. While Mythical Pokémon are those provided through events. So the Birds, Dogs, Tapus, and Regi’s are all Legendaries. Not Mythical. Pokémon like Mew, Deoxys, Celebi and Hoopa are Mythical since they were first distributed through real life events

Some of my favorite legendaries are Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, the weather trio, Giratina, Arceus, the tao trio, the life trio, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus. Edit: I still stand by the forms of Necromza, Kyurem, and the time and space deities. The fused forms of Necrozma and Kyurem are suppose to look unnatural and I love Ultra Necrozma. It's a legendary from ultra space, of course, it looks bizarre. I like the origin forms of Dialga and Palkia because they, along with Giratina, are the first children of Arceus. They are supposed to look eldritch. I get that not everyone will like them, but that's just how I feel.

I never got the "Legendary Beasts are dogs" theory. Like, what kind of dog is Raikou supposed to be? it looks nothing like one. even the other two seem like a stretch. Entei's a lion, Suicune's a leopard, and Raikou is a (Sabretooth) tiger. As for the silhouettes in Generations, pretty sure they aren't meant to be anything specific, just generic mammals.

100% agreed. Entei has retractable claws. That is the textbook definition of a Felid (cat family). It's how you know a footprint is cat vs dog. As for Raikou it is so obviously a cat! Suicune I can accept being a dog mostly because the longer muzzle is a Canid trait.

Why isn't Zygarde on the list? If it's cause he isn't on box art, you know who isn't on box art? Mewtwo and Eternatus. But they are on the list. So if it is box only, then Eternatus and mewtwo are breaking the rules. If it isn't box only, Zygarde should be here.

Eternatus is a big title fight in Sword and Shield, so that does fit the rules. Mewtwo on the other hand, fits about as well as Zygarde on this list

I didn't really like the origin form of palkia at first, but over time it strangely grew on me. It kind of gave me the aesthetic of a pegasus (a draconic space pegasus but still) and if I am remembering my astronomy correctly there is a pegasus constellation and weirdly enough I just feel that kind of works for it. I don't know maybe I am just weird its just a little thing I wanted to get off my chest

The reason kyurem looks so broken is because he is broken. He is the leftover parts of the original dragon. That also explains why his fusion seem better but not perfect, because it's not the complete form. Its because of the lore that I think kyurem is a better fusion pokemon then Nucrozma

Box legends didn't start til gen 2, and if you aren't counting suicune, a the box legends for crystal, and are counting Mewtwo, a pokemon that has never been a box legend, you might want to change the title to fit the rules.

7:10 I agree Rayqayza took a nose dive when he swaps Airlock for Delta Stream. Dialga is probably my most favorite dynamic looking legendary just shy of the imposing, the darkness that you'd never want to see in a dark ally, which would be Zeckrom mind ya. Love the vid

I remember the reason for Lugia being Psychic & Flying was to call back to Psychic types being the apex of power in Pokemon, so they wanted a really powerful type to reflect a really powerful legendary. I highly recommend looking up the origin story for the creation of Lugia if you haven't already, btw; it's really interesting just how much went in to the creation of a single Pokemon. Meanwhile, yeah, huge Giratina bias here. That dude is straight-up SCARY and I LOOOOOVE it! He and Lugia duke it out as my all-time favorite legendary from time-to-time. XD
