I also love Susan Bates. I strongly prefer inline hooks. I have the silverlume (I don't know if I spelled that right, sorry) and also a metal Susan Bates that was my grandmother's and is much older. The old hook is a smoother metal, so I understand the complaint about the metal on the currently available hooks, but they are still my go to because I struggle to not let my stitches get too tight with the tapered neck hooks.

I would really like to try the Furls hooks, but I absolutely hate inline crochet hooks. Although they look the best when it come to the handle. My favourite hooks are two handmade resin hooks I got on etsy, but the seller doesn't exist anymore. I assume they have used cheap aluminium hooks to cast in a resin handle which looks similar to the furls handle, just flater. The yarn slips so nice on the hooks and the handle feels amazing, I can work with it hours without cramps. So much better than my clover amour hooks.

My hooks are similar to the Clover Amour hooks. I bought them in a Dutch household store without a brand name on it, so they're probably not the exact same. But I like them a lot. They're nice to use and a nice price. And I like that (at least the ones I have) have a different colour handle for each size, so it's easy to find the right size.

My favourite hook is a 3.5mm (or it may be a 3mm) ergonomic hook I got from amazon 8 years ago. Its design is similar to the clover armour, but I find the unbranded one the best I've used in ALL of the cheap, mid price, and expensive hooks I've tried. The hook is full size, so if the silicone splits completely, as it is doing because of how much use, then there's no need to worry about trying to find the same hook for at least a couple of days. I've tried the addi hooks and hated them. My yellow clover broke after two rounds of a minion, and the "normal" hooks just don't work well with my arthritis in my hands. I even bought a couple of hooks with modelling clay formed around the shaft, but they irritated the inner joints of my fingers. Has anyone made their own "cover" using hand-poured silicone, or even silicone sealant? How did it turn out?

I use Boye for amigurumi and Susan Bates for just about everything else. But I don't have wrist or finger pain, and I use a pencil grip, so the "ergonomic" handles don't have much of a point for me 🤷‍♀️ I actually find them uncomfortable.

I love my Odyssey hooks - but they are discontinued. The Streamline metal are a fair replacement, but dont come smaller than a G. Sad.

Hi Elise Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these hooks. When I first started learning a few years ago now I was given a standard metal hook, then I bought myself some Pony ergonomic hooks ( which looks like the flat handle clover hooks). One of my friends gifted me a generic soft handled ergonomic hooks and I also bought myself some ergonomic handled Susan Bates, although the larger the size it either came with a bamboo handle or it was just the metal hook 😢 As you can see I like a variety 😂 Maybe one day I may try the furls hook (Maybe I should put it on my Christmas Wishlist 😉). Happy crocheting 🧶 Take care, stay safe and well. God bless 🙏🏼💕🧶😊

@@Mamallina437 Hi Leah, is that just if you live in the USA/Canada? as I live in Australia. I’ll have to see if there is a retailer or supplier that has them in Australia (try to cut out the expensive shipping costs) thanks 🙏🏽😊

Personally I like the Susan bates with the covered handle. The little black rubber holds up and is nice for my hands… it also survives a teething cat ^^6.

I just don’t understand how crochet hooks can be so expensive?? Like it just requires smooth metal, obviously not a lot based on the curls one, with a ergonomic grip. How can that be so difficult??

I’ve loved bates’ hooks for as long as I can remember, so I never had any reason to try other hooks. I’ve heard of the Furls hooks and think they are beautifully crafted. I think I should go ahead and bite the b*let and pay the hefty price. Recently tried Amigurumi but I’m getting the furls strictly to show off! 💃😂😂.

I am 100% a Susan Bates hook crocheter!! I'm not sure where you got your Susan Bates, but most of mine that I purchase directly from a major craft store, have a black comfort grip. But, I love, Love, LIVE my Susan Bates hooks that I get from Nelsonwood. He hand works a ergonomic wooden handle over the Susan Bates hook, and I am totally over the moon for these hooks! Like the Furls, they are expensive, but worth every penny when discussing how comfortable the hooks are and the fact that since using this special hook, I've had no pain in my hand or arm! I have never found the Susan Bates to have "rough metal"!

Ugh i hate inline hooks it might be the way that I hold my Hook and the way I hold my yarn cuz I don't do it the traditional way I just can't it doesn't work for me but those inline hooks shred my yarn constantly I have a few different kinds of hooks some are vintage from my grandma that don't even have a brand name on them but they have a larger space in the hook and I really like them I just wish I could figure out what brand they are
