I find that the hook head of the furls hook is too sharp and splits the yarn. The crochet hook is also too big/long for my small hands and is a bit cumbersome. My crochet work was not flowing. I had to keep stopping as yarn kept slipping off the hook. A pretty hook but difficult to use. I bought a 2nd hook and had the same issues. So I'm back to using the Clover Amour hooks which suit me very well. Crocheting with them us a dream. Would like to try the Ophire but I'm worried it might be the same as the furls. I live in UK🇬🇧 so delivery will be pricey. Thank you for the review. I had the same issues you had when I tried to use the furls.

You did a really nice comparison and I enjoyed watching it. I love hook reviews. I have four girls odyssey, but I really love my tulips, my clovers, and my nitpicks laminated wood hooks. My hands are child size so the big long hooks with the big long shaft are not for me, no matter how pretty they are, and I think we will agree that they are pretty. Thanks again for the review and comparison, Sandy from Cincinnati.

I have crocheted for 50yrs , my mom longer!! My mom and I have found the Ophire hooks compared to Clover are NOT the same size! We tested the I and J hooks and nope! The ophire hook is bigger, and stitches are bigger as well. Disappointed 😞

@KraftiKimi oh that's a shame. I'm sorry!!! Maybe it's because they are nit mass produced. Maybe reach out to the company and see what they say. It hasn't been my experience but I'm sorry...thats frustrating.

I got my first Furls and its hard to use. The yarn keeps falling off the hook. The other thing I noticed is Furls size M hook is put as an 8mm while an 8mm for everyone else is an L. I also like the colors better on the Ophire.

I too find furls hard to use. It splits the yarn, yarn slips off the hook, it is too big for my small hands and is way too cumbersome. The tension is all wrong when I use the furls. I thought perhaps I had a faulty hook regards the splitting of the yarn so I bought another. But I had the same issues. So I have reverted to my Clover Amour hooks which I have always used.

I’ve tried tulip and clover, I like the clover handles better. The thumb bump on tulip hurts my thumb. Other than that the hooks are basically the same.
@missbeans16 күн бұрын
@dianneepps4512 same here, I tried both Clover Amour and Tulip Etimo. Both excellent hooks. I just prefer the shape of the Amour handle, it's more comfortable for my hand. The Tulip shape was flatter and less round. I was really hoping to like the Tulip better, because the Amour colors are so bad 😂 I wanted the Etimo pinks! But I had to go for comfort over aesthetics in the end lol. I do with that Ophire would make smaller hooks in the same size/shape as the Amours! They are way too big for me as they are now.

When the founder of Furls stepped down, the new ladies decided to change the way hooks are made and manufacturer…they released this on a video Or a live they did. I’ve bought many of the original Furls and some of the new Furls hooks. I’m not a fan of their new hooks. I don’t like the inline head and they don’t seem as ergonomic any longer. I just bought a full set of Ophire and I’m hoping they will be everything I want and need. I agree with you….but I’d like to know which Furls hooks you’re using in this video An old original hook or the ones produced by the new owners????

Thank you for the review! I was bummed when I wasn't able to get a Furls Odyssey hook as metal hooks are my favorite. I like my Clovers, but I like the bigger handles on the Furls. I may give these Ophires a look. And off the crochet hook topic, what is the acrylic/wool yarn with the red, blue, and gray you are using in your review?

Glad I could help Pamela! I'm using my Ophire hooks everyday now and I'm loving them even more! The yarn I'm using (and you'll see more in the coming weeks) is by Katia yarn. Have you tried the Daiz hooks, and if so what did you think? I got a few and don’t care for them at all but they look just like your Ophire ones here so I hesitate to order those. I normally use Clover Amore and even a knock off version of those, which I love just as much. I also like my Prym hooks but just for cotton.

Thank you for this in deph review! I've checked for Ophire but was wondering how it compared to a furls which I honestly didn't like as the heads is too long for my crochet style. Furls causes my loops to be pulled creating drag. They are super smooth but also very fragile. I would hope Ophire is sturdier.
@Kimberly_Knit4Brains9 ай бұрын
You are so welcome! I have done several side by side comparisons between Ophire and Furls...Ophire resin hooks continue to WOW me when compared to Furls resin hooks...they are much sturdier and the head of the Ophire hooks is what really made the difference for me (and Ophire is less expensive than the Furls). You can check out Ophire here and try them for yourself ;) ophireco.com/?sca_ref=5235540.6PEj1Rai7x
