Oh shit I forgot to comment my theory. I think that the reason every final phase seems supercharged is because every single debtor has one thing in common. They all wished, in some way, to have a bit of that Astral Plane Power pie that the Devil could grant. They hold a bit of that power, and don’t use it until Cuphead and Mugman prove themselves to be threats, as it is shown in the beginning of the game that the debtors are their friends. But hey, that’s just a theory. A game theory! I’m sorry

I believe each boss has special powers given to them as a result of dealing with the Devil. This could also be why many of them have the yellow/golden eye color seen in relation to the astral plane.

It is cool to think about cause not all of them gambled with him for powers. Like Wally Warbles for example, instead of him having yellow eyes his son Willy Warbles has them, which suggests Wally made a deal with the devil to get a son

@@Phi_Lix True. Though the DLC bosses on Isle 4 may be supernatural by default since they have powers without ever dealing with the Devil, Isle 4 is also described as being “mystical” interestingly.

Yeah, the last phase being so different could be related to whatever deal they made with the devil. But this doesn't apply to everyone, like Sally or Kahl's robot

I just noticed when starting the hilla berg fight instead of just inhaling just air she inhales the cloud she sits on when not in that blimp form so this video about animation transitions helped me appreciate one transition i thought was meh

My theory is that[excluding what we already know from the show]: - i have no clue about Goopy but maybe he sold his soul for immortality, which is why he has power beyond "death"? Like maybe cuphead did actually have to kill him twice, once physically and then from beyond the grave? Astral Powers??? -Hilda sold her soul to live in the Astral plane OR to have magical powers related to such Astral plane. -Cagney sucks the life out of the soil for himself, which is why he gets more evil the bigger he gets (sort of like the root pack in the show except maybe worse?) Could be smoking crack but I've been sitting on this theory for a while (but I'm too nervous to actually make a scripted video maybe in the future)

I find the point of the animations is to bring a new phase, that’s it. Doesn’t matter if it makes sense just change it to something and it’s best if it resonates with a theme, obvious or not.

Hilda Burg’s stretched face in the moon phase is terrifying to me and somehow i got to skip it which literally made me take a bigger sigh of relief bigger than hilda burgs transform during one of those star sign transtions, *all hail the Cagney dance.*

I feel like theoretically a few bosses are. Holding back their true strength against the cup bros at the beginning of the fight while others are throwing everything they got at the Start. I feel like bosses such as cagney, beppi, djnny, grim, captain Briney beard (not himself, his ship), werner and the devil are either underestimating the cup bros and just don’t think full power is necessary, or they need to be pushed to a limit. Hilda isn’t included because, astral plane theory goes brr All other bosses either don’t transform and throw everything they have such as minions. Or others in the group or are forced to transform due to a mid way by circumstance or a idea they had midway the fight. Those who probably just transform by desperation or accident are goopy, ribby & croaks,hilda, rumour,Cala Maria and Esther. All others had to innovate, had multiple people fighting or were just getting hurt more and more. Only one I can’t quite explain is Mortimer since it sorta seems he was planing his transformation from the start.
