Eh in Sinnoh he was great too, it's just like he was becoming better with every region that passes only for Unova to give his brain a hard reset. Hell in Hoenn he was good too, his Hoenn time self absolutely beat most if not all of the battle frontier brains, he was even given a proposition to become one himself. But in Unova the team responsible for the anime decided to make him as dumb as his Kanto self (before even getting to the Tournament in Kanto itself)

Defeating Batlle Frontier Brains and getting a proposition to become one is enough of a feat to prove that he was not dumb the entire time. You can say he was dumb in Kanto and Johto but his Hoenn self is leagues above his Unova self. The Unova anime is hated among other reasons for exactly that. Second reason i can think of is Pikachu losing to a Snivy (that just began it's journey with their trainer), then again here Ash is too dumb to prevent that, which his other versions after Johto would manage. Finally third reason i know was making him lose the tournament against in opinion of many THE DUMBEST character ever seen in the anime, that character being Cameron

Ash's rowlet was so powerful that it fell asleep during a fight with it's rival, also it's final evolved form, because it was such an easy challenge for rowlet to overcome. Pikachu had the highest win rate in alola. Naganadel and Melmetal were actually rare AND powerful. And finally, the rivalies between ash's incineroar and kukui's incineroar, as well as ash's lycanrock and gladion's lycanrock were the greatest rivalries I've seen in the series. Ash's alola team was so good that they broke the chain of ash loosing every pokemon league he entered.

Ash’s Journeys team is definitely powerful, but also so very strange. Two Dragons, two fighting-types, a Pikachu and a Gengar, which he caught fully-evolved. The biggest journey of growth was with Lucario, a 4-generation-old Pokémon by that point. And he only had 2 Pokémon from the new region. Just, totally bizarre when you’re used to him using at least one starter, with some elemental type coverage.

Fun fact: Ash (Techically) only caught 4 pokemons in Kalos but 5 you count Froakie since it was given to him by Sycamore, and he already had Pikachu. Talonflame was caught as a Fletchling, Hawlucha was found and tagged along with Ash, Goomy fell out of the sky, and Hawlucha found Noivern's egg. He caught no other pokemons in Kalos which makes it sound like the worst looking adventure for him. Imagine going to another country just to catch only 5 pokemon, stop a terrorist group, and not even win the league with a team with 2 dragon types and tons of plot armor, that sucks man

The only good members of Ash’s Unova team was Krookodile, Levanny, and Scraggy(Scraggy makes it because of his personality and Scraggy is in my top 5 pokemon Ash should’ve evolved because Scrafty is one of my favorite pokemon in Unova and it screams Ash to me)

Oshawatt was a more annoying Totodile, Snivy was meh but it also should’ve evolved, Unfezant is Unfezant and Braviary would’ve fit way better for Ash, Pignite was kinda a worse Charizard and Infernape, Palpitoad was kinda pointless, and Boldore I literally forgot Ash ever had (Please note that I’m not a Genwunner I love Gen 5 it has some of my favorite Pokémon like Golurk, Meinshao, and as I said Scrafty, but Ash’s Unova team was so mid)

@@captain8051Thanks, as much as I love Gen 5, Ash’s team in the anime was more mid than White Castle’s food This is what Ash’s Unova Team should’ve been 1. Pikachu (Obviously) 2. Braivary (As I said, Braviary fits more than shitty ass Unfezant) 3. Levanny or Serperior (It can be either one, I really don’t care but I slightly prefer Levanny because it is Ash’s most underrated Unova Pokemon, but keeping Snivy is fine so Ash does have at least one starter but it’s should evolve) 4. Scrafty(It will be the same Scraggy from the egg, and Scrafty is my favorite fighting type in Gen 5 also it screams Ash to me) 5. Darmanitan (It is also one of my favorite Gen 5 pokemon and I was having a tough time choosing between him and Heatmor, but Darmanitan fits a little better) 6. Krookodile (It’s Ash’s Unova Ace, so he gets to stay) Could you imagine Ash having this team, it would’ve been awesome but sadly we’re stuck with an wannabe Totodile and forgettable Boulder

It was Ash's Alola team that gave his Journeys team the chance to become champions after all. I'd say the only downside is that we never got to see his Incineroar battle as it evolved right as it fainted

We will never know since Naganadel and Melty just showed up in their evolved forms before and after the finals, and just started blasting. and we never got to see incineroar in actual battle action in this form.

With Ash’s bond with Lucario, Lucario could one shot melmetal since it’s weak to fighting type and because Lucario one shot Raihan’s G-Max Duraladon. Naganadel well, it’s gonna struggle against Dragonite and Dracovish. Sirfetch’d is gonna cook Lycanroc and Rowlet. Incineroar is probably gonna also have problems facing a G-Max Gengar. I think Ash’s Alola team can take out probably only two of his Journeys Pokémon

They definitely overloaded Ash on his Unova team for no good reason. Though there is a theory that Krokorok should've joined Ash's team in banned two-parter. Which resulted in the writers in scrambling to throw a Ground-type on Ash's team, ie. why Palpitoad was so incredibly underused and hardly ever shown. However, his team could've been condensed to a solid team if he kept it smaller and had the chance to focus the development on that smaller group as opposed to the larger roster: - Pikachu: Obviously sticking around. - Emboar: It has a lot of solid wins, easily deserved a full evolution. - Leavanny: It's solid. Serves as Ash's main Grass-type. - Scrafty: Should've evolved at the end, definitely odd why it stayed a baby this long. - Palpitoad/Seismitoad: Could've been a beast like Melmetal. Might be biased since Seismitoad is a multifunctional beast in the games. - Boldore: Underrated hardhitter with a good moveset. Also, his first Rock-type. - Krookodile: Joined when he did. Culled: 1. Unfezant: Simply not necessary. 2. Oshawott: Gone to Cilan. Or could've stayed with Ash and Palpitoad could be skipped. 3. Snivy: Gone to Iris, give it DragonTail and Ash's battle against her could've been a 3vs3: Serperior, Dragonite, Haxorus.

@@dustindean4618 I meant in the grand scheme of things. Ash only used it in four battles: - Vs. Trip: KO'd by Frillish. - Vs. Skyla: Beat Swoobat and Swanna. - Vs. Roxie: KO'd by Koffing. - Vs. Cameron: KO'd by Riolu. Sure, the wins during the Mistralton Gym are valuable and so is the ability to have a being that can fly on the team.. but were those two wins and that particular skill enough to warrant spending time on it? I simply believe that if Ash invested in a more concise team that he could've beaten Skyla without the help Unfezant. Boldore for instance wasn't even used despite the advantage against Swoobat and Skyla's Unfezant. That being said, Unfezant was initially one where I debated keeping it on the team with myself, but the lack of weight it pulled in battles outweighs the 'effort' Ash must've put into it (albeit offscreen).

Honestly, having the regional bird was Ash's thing until Alola, where he got the starter bird. Man just has a bird on every team. It's a staple like Pikachu, which is why i see why he has Unfezant. However Unova really got robbed with the writing and team composition. Ash's team in that series has great pokemon, if they just evolved.

@@Sammy_The_Umbreon Yeah, but if there ever was one to skip, then Unfezant would be it - especially since I'd rather have Pignite and Scraggy evolve at the end of the line, rather then Unfezant needing two evolutions and only get two wins in the entire series. In my eyes, in the pokemon anime it is the definition of wasted time and space. Palpitoad has done more and had NO appearances outside of its capture and battles until the end.
