The contracts at liverpool is a huge concern but I don’t think we can ignore the problem with Nunez. We’re into his 3rd season, he’s 25 & he’s on the bench. He cost £85m, there are no more excuses he has to start delivering.

Tbf he cost 65 mill. It was 84 mill with add ons based on performances. Still doesn't excuse the fact he's not kicked on and we've given him far too much time at this point

Also separately, the way people are slating Ange for saying he wins things in year 2 and it’s a failure if he doesn’t win. He talks about winning here and wanting to do so at spurs. Compare that to ‘serial winners’ like Mourinho and Conte who always talked as if they were doing Spurs a favour by being in charge. Ange has high standards for himself and wants that for the club.

glad you didn’t just focus on the set pieces RE Spurs Joe. Arsenal goal aside we’ve not really looked as weak from set pieces, and have got better at creating from them too. Narrative just came back bc of what happened last season. Agree on Ange, time needed for it all to click and us to start winning games again, optimistic for the season, slightly worried but overall optimistic

Agree on Duran - He still has a lot to learn and will naturally keep pushing to start which is fine especially as he seems a lot calmer and focused. Famous last words, but one hopes he has realized having Emery as his coach is a fantastic career opportunity. Combine that and the adjustments he's made in his personal life 'by all accounts' he is setting himself up for success 🤞 famous last words but he is an excitingg playeer to watch. ...and he continues to score worldies. This time in the CL this week via yees lthough yes a disallowed (for a foul in the build up) it was another OMG 😲 goal. What a talent!

When Mitchell said the recruitment strategy wasn't fit for purpose he was absolutely right. He's not critising the manager or the players that were signed at all. He was pointing out that there could and should have been more developing players signed, there should have been more attempts at moving some players on, and there was too many contract extensions. For a club like Newcastle that needs to rely on moving players on but keeping their stars players until the revenue snowball is rolling there was way too much focus on getting and keeping tried and tested Premier League ready players whereas the main recruitment focus should have been on finding potential future high value players that could either be added to the squad, or moved on for high profit.

Its a good day when your clubs biggest problem is having too many good players to keep happy. I love watching Duran and I can see him going on to do great things, but assuming he continues to impress I do see him moving on at the end of the season to an elite club that is prepared to make him their out and out striker.

With forest, we got jota silva who can play striker, but we have not seen him play there yet, so we can not judge, but nuno thinks we will be ok and its weird that we only got 2 striker and 2 goalkeepers but the rest we got depth

Yeah, and although I don't really want it to come to this, in the most dire situation, Elanga has played up top before, or Gibbs-White could play as a false 9. I also think we will resolve this problem in January. So, we just need to get through the next few months with at least one of Woods or Awoniyi intact. I think a bigger issue at the moment is our shot conversion. Our xG is quite high, but we've not scored more than 1 goal in a game. We also had lots of shots vs. Wolves & Bournemouth, but weren't able to finish them off. As good as our start has been, we should really be on 12 points.

@@joethomlinson_tbf on Paul Mitchell I do think his comments were taken slightly out of context I think he was in particular referring to the fact we had to sell Anderson and Minteh hours before the PSR deadline or face a points deduction and that the club should never have been put in that position

@@joethomlinson_ Someone else pointed out namely a certain Talksport presenter (Simon Jordan) that the interview the media portrayed was blown out of proportion. He wanted Newcastle to buy young players with a sell on value to combat PSR...which the previous strategy didn't really have to avoid having to make last minute deals such as Gordon to Liverpool. It wasn't having a go at the players bought playing in the first team squad. Anyway - the media portrayed it how it was to sell papers.

Newcastle issue is getting overblown imo, not being helped my the press who have been posting the same story for weeks even though not much more has been said on it. The transfer policy wasn’t fit for purpose as we nearly got docked points and had to sell a Minteh who is the player we would have likely started if we could have kept. Cant be going into a transfer window offering out players when people know we need to sell.
