I actually rode soapbox racers when it was motorcycles instead of the boxed cars. At the time it was really cool for Knott's. But the reason it was changed to the boxcars happened to my brother. He didn't get hurt or anything but when we rode back into the station he was sideways on the cycle only being held on by the strap belt. I think it was called steeple chase so maybe it was horses we rode on. Too far back to remember. Thank you for giving Knott's a good video. Knott's is so different than most parks. Family friendly yet fun for all ages. I'm 58 yrs old but still ride coasters. I'm not an old 58 I'm still young at heart. I'm also an ex gymnast and can still do most of my "old" routines so that might explain me. Once again your videos keep me going out to keep riding! I just visited Knotts for the second and third time last week. I had ridden Jaguar before. It seems tame to me now but it’s a lot of fun. Sierra sidewinder was intense! I’m so glad I rode it. Coast rider was ok. It has a couple fun moments. As a tall person, the shin guards are difficult. On my second ride, I talked the ride operator into giving me just a little extra room, and it was better. The lines were long for pony express. Maybe next time.

@Coaster Corsair lol that is an extremely unpopular opinion. If Ghostrider has anything, it's crazy pacing and lots of airtime (way more than any of the 5 GCI's I've ridden). Yeah it has a brief lull at the turnaround/old midcourse, but that sets you up for the as-described one of the best airtime moments ever.

I grew up in Southern California and I used to go to Knott's at least once a year. I also had a season pass in high school and my best friend and I would jump on over to Knott's whenever we could. The last time I went to the park was before Hang Time opened. Montezuma's Revenge was the first loop I had ever done and the first roller coaster I ever went backwards on, so it definitely holds a soft spot for me. With that in mind, my second and third favorites are Silverbullet and Ghost Rider. It honestly just depends on the day which one I prefer. Xcelerator is my favorite. My record for most rides in a single day was close to 30 back in the day.

Old Knott's was better during the 90's. The Knott family sold the park to Cedar Fair in 1997. HangTime pays tribute to Boomerang with its Cobra Roll. I rode the coaster on its grand opening in May, great ride. I always told the employees that they should add another track to Xcelerator and have the trains race against each other, calling Xcelerator Drag Racers. That would solve the 2 hour wait for the people. Montezuma's Revenge, Boomerang, Jaguar and GhostRider are my top favorites, now including HangTime. Can't wait til the park reopens again. Check out Jaguar and the Parachute ride videos from 1996.

I went to Knotts (and Magic Mountain) pretty much every year in the late '70s and early '80s when we'd drive to LA to visit my grandparents. I remember the Corkscrew when it was the first loop coaster. It was always a short but fun ride. I also remember riding the Wacky Soapbox Racers during that time. My last trip to Knotts was in 2012 or 2013 when I got to ride Ghostrider and Xcelerator, both of which I enjoyed a lot (especially Ghostrider, which I thought was one of the best wooden coasters I've ever been on).

Silver Bullet is #2 at the park. Hear me out. There are two types of B+M inverts. Those that use the inverted trains to pull intense G's to rip your feet off and those that use the inverted trains to offer unobstructed scenic tours of the park. Silver Bullet is clearly the latter. While the forces are fun, and that turn after the first loop is fantastic and unique if understated, it's really about just being in the front seat and enjoying a smooth (smoother than the rear) entertaining tour of the park. Knott's is one of the most beautifully themed coaster parks in America and Silver Bullet gives you wonderful views that really can't be matched by any other B+M invert, other than Great Bear at Hersheypark, which seems to me to be an inferior version of Silver Bullet. For what it is, Silver Bullet might actually be the best roller coaster of it's kind (scenic tour B+M inverted coaster) in the best environment (Over the Knott's lake and footpaths) for that type of experience.

I saw one of the comments mention this one, but I have to add my thoughts. I have been going to Knott’s since the 1960s. Before Xcelerator... Before Windjammer... Before Wacky Soap Box Racers...There was the Motorcycle Chase on that plot of land in the Roaring 20s Airfield. It utilized the same track as the Soap Box Racers, but after multiple injuries, the bikes were replaced with the soap box racers. I remember my parents (who were not coaster enthusiasts) getting on the attraction with us four kids in the summer of 1977. The Motorcycle Chase scared them quite a bit, but for me, it was one of the best experiences of my life up to that point. Over 40 years later, I still think fondly of my ride on the Motorcycle Chase.

Wacky Soap Box Racers (my memory of this is pretty vague, but I remember it being very unique though incredibly tame) 14. Coast Rider As for what's next, I could see a Mack Launch similar in scale to Copperhead Strike fitting in really nicely, but with the pandemic I expect it will be several years before we even see signs of something big coming to the park.

I've ridden everything except Corkscrew (too small) and Windjammer (didn't visit the park during its brief life). Love seeing one of my only defunct credits in boomerang 🙌 but I can’t wait to get back here bc I didn’t ride Sierra sidewinder, hangtime wasn’t there yet, and I had a terrible ride on ghost rider. Looking forward to getting back 🤙

I have the wacky soap box derby credit. It was a glorious experience.

1:51 I remember going to Knotts before I was interested in Roller Coasters. Now looking back more recently, I was surprised because I didn’t remember Coast Rider being there. I thought I was crazy. But I do remember riding Perilous Plunge.... Mystery solved

Knotts is where I got my first looping cred as well, it was either Boomerang, or freaking Windjammer🤣 I mustve blocked that traumatic time out of my memories of childhood

Good list! Of the current coasters, I would put Silver Bullet and Montezooma's ahead of Sierra but that is just me.

2:12 rode this yesterday, I’m 6’3 and there was literally no room for my shins to move 😅 once I was in, I was in.

My vote for a new coaster is a 3 track S&S steeplechase paying homage to Wacky Soap Box Racers

I would count Motor Cycle Chase as it's own coaster and include it in the list. The seating, on motorcycle trains, was similar to Pony Express. The hills, combined with restraints, caused many injuries. Sadly, I did not ride it until after the profiles of the hills were flattened out. The third incarnation was the re-theme to the soap box cars and new ride vehicles. The layout was somewhat tame, but maximized space as it wound around the Motor Race. I believe the Cycle Chase/Motor Race attractions of the Knott's Roaring '20s Airfield represent part of Knott's heyday. Theming at Knott's in the mid-late 1970's was exceptional!

I was pretty damn young when I rode ghost rider and silver bullet (about 13) and after that, I felt like I could do anything and I tested it far. I’m looking to go on hangtime next.

While I’ve never been to Knotts, based off povs and the coasters i tend to like I think I would have to agree with Ghost taking the cake.

Not to split hairs but Wacky Box (Ride operator parlance) ran as Motorcycle Chase from '76 until 1980. Recent high school graduate Eddie Sotto proposed and spearheaded the re-theming of this ride to address the high center of gravity that riders experienced on the "Cycles" (Again R.O.P.) The retrofit was done entirely in-house. Catnip Junction and Seymour Duds Fireworks Factory were among so many clever visual gags incorporated into Wacky Box. What other ride took you into a sewer and on to Catnip Junction? This is one among many in-house triumphs taking place at KBF in the 1980's. HH mazes becoming staples, Elvira's epic stage shows in the Goodtime Theatre, and the explosive success of the Cloud 9 Ballroom that birthed Studio K which then "forced" Disneyland to respond with Videopolis. Knott's really was a trend setter during this years.
