He's not elite though, I lived in Italy for 5 years and followed Roma whilst he was there, although young, he flopped massively. They've signed him off the back of a good season and good Euros, far from world class in either though. He's a smart deal purely for the cover at full back and could slot in at CDM.

Helping to get an unfancied Bologna side into the Champions League (ironically, finishing a place above Roma), given the strong competition for places in the Serie A, shows how much he's come along in the past 2 years. Roma probably regrets letting one of their youth products leave, and not just for how much money they could've got for him, had they held onto him for another two seasons.

He was bought from St Etienne for nowhere near this fee, sent out on loan the next season to St Etienne and then sent out on loan the following season to Nice. he was loaned out to get minutes, yes they saw the potential in him, but they didn't expect him to explode like he did when on loan to Nice, where he was the best CB in Ligue 1 that season. Yoro has one season of senior football and while he was good, he wasn't the best CB in the league.

Zirkzee is not a very good signing and Joe is definitely biased here. I can prove that by using his own rhetoric. He said that Strand Larsen had only had two good seasons and placed him a level below Zirkzee. Well, the same can certainly be said about Zirkzee. Remember that Zirkzee was not a part of the Dutch squad for the Euros until injuries made it so... Yoro is not any more of a talent than Saliba was at that age. Saliba turned out to be a great signing, but one could not KNOW that back then. So, to call Yoro an elite signing seems really premature.

Zirkzee wasn't initially considered for the Dutch squad because he was injured towards the end of the season. The only gambles Koeman was willing to make on players returning from injury were Depay and De Jong, that's why he wasn't even in the provisional squad. But clearly that had nothing to do with doubting his quality, because when a spot opened up and it looked like we might need another striker due to Brobbey suffering a knock, a recovered Zirkzee was added to the squad, and he ended up ahead of Brobbey in the pecking order during the tournament.

Im interested to see how Maatsen does at Villa, I'm a bit unsure, parts of his game I really like, other parts worry me, but I feel this, "Chelsea's best LB" take will come back to haunt you. I feel like he makes quite a few bozo errors and really lacks physicality and defensive awareness to do well in the Premier League. Especially after how Cucurella finished the season and far and away the best LB of the Euros, not to mention Veiga, who already looks better. Chilwell is useless, so can bin him off.
