From what I understand (but I'm not a huge fantasy reader so I may be slightly off) low fantasy is either another world with little magic or fantasy elements in our world whereas high fantasy is another world where magic elements play a big part in the book

High fantasy is like an Entirely different world with a different world building. Like Throne of glass, gameof thrones, a court of thorns and roses etc. And I guess low fantasy is urban fantasy with the fantasy world co-existing with the normal world we live in. Like harry potter and shadowhunter chronicles.

I truly love watching your videos. This one though made it clear how different my taste in books is from yours. The Night Circus is absolutely God tier for me. The writing is gorgeous and that book is so amazingly atmospheric. I’m wondering if you lean more towards plot driven stories. No matter, I still love hearing your take on books.

I'm not a big fantasy reader but I've noticed the same thing with other genres, my taste for adult romance and Hailey's are polar opposites, her "little smudge" is still too smudgy for me lol, but then I love any historical fiction she recommends. Nonetheless she's still my favorite booktuber ever lol

Impressive list :O I'm just wondering, since you said that the bottom-heaviness of the list probably explains why you are struggling with fantasy, have you considered trying some more adult fantasies? They tend to follow different formulas than YA, although they are often pretty thick books.

I completely agree! I feel like a lot of YA fantasies focuses a lot on relationships between characters (ie. romance) and that gets boring real fast, whereas adult fantasies has more world building and the magic systems are all quite unique.

@@helenpei This is kind of the reason why I read each genre. When I want fantasy but also want a relatively easier read and romance I go for YA. When I want more of the fantasy part, I either take YA without too much romance or mostly adult.

I’m so glad someone else was unimpressed with The Night Circus. It’s so overhyped and I just couldn’t get into it. I tried reading it physically and then later I tried to listen to the audiobook and I just couldn’t do it.

I read the whole thing and wish I hadn't. It felt like such a waste of my time. The synopsis sounded SO good and the whole book was just a big nothingburger. No plot, no character depth, no action...nothing. The continual high praise for this book everywhere continues to totally baffle me. I feel like if the book had actually been all the synopsis had implied I would have liked it, but oh well.

I mean to tell you this each time you mention this series because it is my all time favorite..but you’ve got to continue with the remnant chronicles...the last book is big but they’re quick reads since you cannot put it down so much is going on..the dance of thieves serious is also amazing and I think both of her series are worth the read since they are so beautifully written and have such strong characters ❤️❤️

I read all of the land of stories series and each book is structured very similarly so it might get a little boring, but honestly I didn't even care. I thought it was a great series, loved the characters, and cried reading the last book.

I think you should try continuing the Land Of Stories. The Wishing Spell was Chris Colfers’ first book and a lot of people said his writing improved a lot as the series went on. I haven’t read the other books yet so I can’t speak for myself.

Have you read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson? That's AWESOME, def a god tier for me. I also think you should filter what you read from fantasy a bit more. No offense--and purely based on my opinion--but looking at most of the titles you've picked up, it's no surprise that you thought they were, well, average.

Hey Haily! Love your tier videos! But I just want to make one tiny suggestion. For your video, is there anyway you could flip yourself so you're 'facing' the tiers. It just looks a little odd when you're 'Facing' the edge of the screen..I hope that makes sense...I watch a lot of gamers and it's something they've always mentioned when making videos. 'Always face your camera to the action, or to what your audience is seeing'. Just makes it more appealing for the audience. Have a wonderful day!

I read a lot of fantasy and I generally agree with most of those rankings. One thing I noticed though it that the vast majority of those are YA fantasy. Have you considered branching out into adult fantasy. Six of Crows is considered a crossover YA/Adult title, so you could look for more of those to see if adult fantasy would be more fulfilling to you.

I highly recommend to read the Sequels to the Land of stories. I can see why you just read the First one bc it has a solid end. When you read the second one, i Think you want to read all of them. If not than after the 3rd one... i promise you that. After i read the 3rd one i immediately started the 4th, even though it was 3 or 4 am. I love these Books so much and their kind of my childhood in a book. Ofc it is your Descission to read them. Just wanted to let you know that the other books are as great (I would say the plot is even better)

If you are open to very adult themes I would love to reccomend Rise of the Illiri by Auryn Hadley. It is an amazing Epic Fantasy that pushes boundries and also makes you think about our own social constructs. I love the characters in the series so much. I could probably even loan the first book to you. This is the series that reignited my love of the genre.
