I wish I liked these designs because the gameplay and animations of Engage looks so sick, but with the sole exception of Fogado, every single one of these designs is a miss for me. It's all lurid colours, overdesigned, noisy outfits with no visual cohesion, and the WORST of fan servicey anime tropes. Ivy is meant to be a warrior, and she's wearing a feather boa, an honest to goodness playboy bunny outfit and fishnets. What is Hortensia even meant to BE? It's all genuinely awful, made worse by the horrible anime same face. Graphically, this game is amazing. Artistically, it makes me want to claw my eyes out.

@@raphaelsorel6907 Now, while I'm aware that my tastes are my own, I don't think many of the characters have 'minor details' and that's one of the reasons I dislike them so much. Look are Celine, for example. Her design consists of incredibly long and wavy hair, but also an ostentatious crown made of flowers and a dress shaped like a tea cup, and striking black and white accents and a LOT of ruffles and frills and ribbons, and also a butterfly motif and it's all so... MUCH. In previous games, ONE of those details would have sufficed alongside more practical armour/clothes to identify a character and it made them feel grounded, to an extent. The characters were stylized, but I could imagine an actual warrior dressing like Marth, Ike or Celica. In Engage, almost every single character has a design catered to form over function that's packed full of features designed to draw the eye, but when they're all like that, the eye doesn't know where to be drawn to. That's what I mean by messy and overdesigned. Fogado works because he looks like he's actually dressed for his desert homeland with the single accent of the feather sleeves. Everything else just feels like it's trying way WAY too hard.
