Ranking EVERY Halo Level Worst to Best

hello i decided for some reason to rank all the halo levels from the main games so basically just the shooters like i didn't do halo wars or spartan assault or anything but still for some stupid reason i was like "hey why don't i do another ranking video" and then i made a tier list and made a dumb video about it and it was funny in the middle of making this video my landlord came in for inspections and i had to take a break for like 10 minutes it honestly wasn't that memorable of an interaction but that's not something that typically happens when working on a video so idk just thought i'd mention it anyway i ranked 85 levels in total in this video unless there's one i just completely forgot i guess but probably not but maybe because infinite and 5 have some dog levels tbh they all kinda start bleeding together especially infinite because of the open world and everything looking exactly the same it's like when bands find a formula that works for them and then every new song they put out sounds exactly the same as their old stuff and the songs on each album are completely interchangeable that's something i like about deftones because if you listen to their first album and then listen to their newest or even just their third (white pony) they sound like a completely different band i guess as far as popular bands goes the best example of that is probably radiohead but personally i'm not a big radiohead fan i think some of their stuff is fantastic but for the most part it's just meh like i don't get the hype around ok computer it's ok i guess but a lot of people i've seen just love that album i prefer kid a myself anyway this is a video about halo where i rank levels and idk i guess watch it if you want or don't it probably doesn't matter none of this matters we live in a simulation

Halo 3 is kinda overrated ngl. I know I’m gonna start WWIII by saying this, but let me cook. I tried playing it on MCC (multiplayer, prefer 1v1 splitscreen) and I could only get kills in swat or by dual wielding magnums. I had a pit match that was fun, but the weapons just feel *weird* to me. It feels like when I use them, they shoot rubber, but when they use them they insta-kill me.

@@lpharmer3496 Mind you that I was about 20-21 when I played Reach for the first time. I think that back then on the 360, the spacefighter section on at least Heroic and Legendary was doable as long as you took cover and let your shields recharge. I tried it again on MCC on PC a year ago on Legendary and had to hide behind the space station the whole time, only occasionally picking off those Seraphs and Banshees that came too close to me. It's very telling that even with the one thing 343 got mostly right (e.g., bringing MCC over to PC), they still managed to mess things up by tying enemy AI to the framerate and/or tick rate. It just means that Legendary is even harder than it was originally.

I think my biggest pet peeve with Cortana is that it was (at least hypothetically) originally going to be the flood ship from Floodgate, so the level design was never really intended to be or resemble high charity, which sucks because I feel like if they went for that from the beginning, it would have been able to resemble 2's high charity a lot more.

I believe what happened was that the majority of the ship from the end of Floodgate was removed and turned into most of Cortana. I don’t know why they couldn’t leave it in and make High Charity into a level…

Yeah like the way it flows and the general sandbox with the armor abilities makes it my favourite, but some of the levels just lack punch or have a section that brings them down eg Long Night of Solace has the great section on the beach and on the Covenant ship, but the Sabre section isn't great and is a pain on higher difficulties

Reachs level design means nothing without the lore and the emotion. If we're grading levels based solely on the design of combat encounters reach doesnt do so well. Its in combination with how those levels make us feel as humanity and noble team is cut down and pushed back and how we know reach is destined to fall that makes reach's campaign so memorable

I think the problem is that a lot of the levels feel the same. There isn’t much location variation which is the biggest issue. It all looks the same. If there was weather effects or desert like areas or winter areas then it would be a crap ton better. I also would have liked a return to the flood after seeing them return in Halo Wars 2 but that’s just me

Finally someone with the correct opinion on kazingo boulevard. The soundtrack is my favourite, the slow triumphant buildup as you gather a little army of marines, the score getting more hectic as yiu blow through increasingly larger and more difficult groups of covenant

I said this in the comments of the halo reach campign video but ill say it again: long night of solace is broken on MCC on a technical level. The doubled framerate broke the AI of the enemy ships and they are WAY, WAY more agressive then they are meant to be, and it takes legendary, which you play on, from challneging to just strait out not fun,, even for me as someone who loves the level and is really good with the saber.

I think you underrate some of the Halo 3 missions, especially Crow's Nest there is backtracking but I love the way how they change the tone and environment every time you return to a spot. Also I love The Storm so many different ways to approach that Scarab section, and the push up the AA gun is a lot of fun. Great video though

I agreed with most except for Keyes and Quarantine Zone. Keyes was so cool with the flood vs covenant encounters plus the atmosphere. Spec op elites were introduced. It did Two Betrayals better by altering truth and rec to a whole new pathway outside (low B, high C). You gave floodgate an A for the same reason I would rate Keyes higher. Quarantine Zone is a high B at least simply due to the fact that you fight 3 factions. The sentinels with the enforcer, the flood driving unsc vehicles, and the covenant... all fighting each other. It was amazing, in my opinion. When I was shot by a unsc tank for the first time playing through the mission, I was so confused, but it honestly switches up the gameplay to seem like you are fighting the unsc in a way. I like it so much and think the mission is underrated by the community.

The rocket marine mongoose section on the storm is one of the most fun and chaotic coop experiences and makes it my second favorite level in 3. Low S rank or a high A for me

Long Night of Solace used to be my favorite Reach level and one of my favorite levels out of all the games until it was broken by the MCC port. The sabre section is basically unplayable now on heroic or higher. Now I think Pillar of Autumn is my favorite Reach level. If I had to pick what the best level in the series is, it would have to be The Covenant from Halo 3.

Honestly I disagree with the MCC making Long Night of Solace worse. It made the Sabre section considerably harder but if you ask me I actually appreciate that because it always felt way too easy in the OG. The first time I did Reach Solo Legendary I was still not that great at the game and yet I did that section with only 1 death due to crashing into the space station. I like that it's actually challenging now.

I think they were fine in CE, but Halo 2 made them tankier and more aggressive which doesn't help on Legendary. Halo 3 then slowed them all down to a crawl in order to fit more on screen and added those awful ranged forms that stop taking damage when curled up. Not only that, but you'll get random combat forms that have an absurd amount of health for no good reason and won't die even to several energy sword slashes.

Cortana is actually one of my favorite halo levels of all time. Dual Wield Plasma Rifles absolutely dominate flood. They're useful against every enemy type. Great for infection forms, combat forms, tank forms, and they've got the range to deal with needler forms. Short controlled bursts and there is alot of plasma rifles on that level.

Sacred Icon to me is an example of why Halo 2 is my favorite game in the series. Because while it is the weakest level in that game, the atmosphere in that level is incredible and there are still some great moments. Those giant forerunner sentinels, for example, are such a neat, two level enemy that you never encounter again. Or riding on the platforms that take you across the different parts of the library complex: the music and ambience combined with the visual of the main construct in the distance and the sky box just hit you at once. Or even just those gates that open when you shoot them: you hear the creak of a door that probably hasn't opened in millennia and it opens up into a deeper part of the level. Having it open from the floor also creates this sense of going further and further down a rabbit hole, which just fits with the horror elements that come with flood levels. Such a great little detail. I also think the layout of the level is interesting and a major improvement on the layout of CE's library while still staying faithful to the Forerunner design elements. And it's still the weakest level in the game

From what I have heard Cortana does have 2-3 notable locations from High Charity. Of course there is the Mausoleum of the Arbiter as a building you can see in the distance. The Council Chambers is the first room you drop into. And the Hierarchs Inner Sanctum is where you rescue Cortana from. But none of this makes sense because if you look out into High Charity from one of the flood "balconies" you are sat almost directly in the middle of High Charity not in the towers that these respective rooms are in.
