The early Madden versions also had real stat simulating meaning if you had a scrambling quarterback, he would have at least 600 yards rushing by the end of the season

Honestly if mini camp came back in a new madden I think I'd get it just for that alone, if implemented right. it'd be cool if you could use your MUT cards to upgrade players with it but we all know that's a long shot cause EA.

Madden 08 Goat. Had everything, gameplay, franchise, specialist, and Vision Cone! Vision Cone is what separated great QBs to average ones. It took actual skill to use. Same with D. Been playing since most of you where born. Started with the original Madden pc 1991.

You've hit the nail on the head with Maddens 04-07. My personal favorite is Madden 07 but I would play 04,05, or 06 in a heartbeat. Little did we know how good we had it back then. My last Madden I purchased was Madden 09 before I picked it up again with Madden 18, so a sizeable gap between play but today's Madden just doesn't compare to the ones they were spitting out in the mid 2000's. Im glad 2K sports is back in the mix. That will only force EA and 2K to up their games, no pun intended.

Really enjoyed this video, very insightful. I'd like to know where you rate each year bracket of Madden games on the same spectrum you used. I mean you can kinda tell how you'd rate them but I'd like to see a follow up video that has you placing each Madden into it's respective era, not necessarily based on graphics but more of what it offered and how well received it was. Such as 99-01, 02-05, 06-12, 13-20, etc...

Yeah, I remember that as well. That is what made Madden 97 so different when it came out on PS1. My staple football game for SNES was the Tecmo Super Bowl series. I had the first and third games in the series and still play them quite a bit. Now with emulation, I mostly play Tecmo Super Bowl on NES with updated rosters but still I miss some of the old school games. I just tried playing Madden 99 and it doesn't hold up quite as well as some of the others.

Madden 07 on PS2 was my favorite, it was just tougher, the CPU would go for it on 4th&2. Also joystick on fieldgoals was a good new development.

As a kid I never knew there were next gen versions of 06 - 10. I was mine blown when I saw footage of them. Those games on PS2 looked, more or less, the same to me even though I enjoyed them

Interesting point of view. I'm strictly a Franchise Mode player. I have been since Madden 99. Everything else they ever added to the games over the years I could care less; especially MUT. I love being my own personal make-believe GM/Coach and take a really bad team and build them up to be a dynasty. With that said, for me I had a ton of fun playing Madden 09 on 360. I had the 20th Anniversary Edition, and really enjoyed it. I loved it so much I did what I almost never do and I went out and bought the very next year/iteration in Madden 10 for PS3 and loved it as well. After that, I didn't play another Madden until Madden 25 for PS3, and again, loved it as well. I had the most fun with that version than any Madden in a while. I actually hated 15. I bought that on PS4, and sold it after a month of playing it. I bought 16 a long time later for about $5 in a used bin, and ended up loving that Madden. I ended up buying Madden 12 for PS3 used after I got bored with 16 because I read on several forums that was the best Madden of that generation, and I'm playing that one right now, and for the most part I'm digging it. Scouting is broken in that game, but the gameplay is pretty solid. I played 08 on PS2 recently and enjoyed it as well. Maybe it's nostalgia but for me the two best Maddens of all time for me were Madden 2005 on PS2 and John Madden Football '93 on SNES. I had the most fun on those Maddens than any Madden ever, and I've played just about all of them. I have to say Madden 2000, 2003, and 07 all on PC are damned awesome Madden experiences as well. There was a time where I was playing my football games exclusively on PC simply because during the PS1 and PS2 era the PC versions were FAR superior in both creative categories and gameplay and of course graphics.

From the PC player perspective, Madden died after 08 when it disappeared from PC. Then wow its back for 19 and oh dear, all the customisation is gone ... its not fun and MUT has taken center stage ??? RIP Madden ... it was a great game. still the greatest is 05 and while my PC can play it in some way, it'll keep getting a run.

I always enjoyed the ones where you could import your draft classes and you could see the players you play with and against become big NFL stars on become just benchwarmers. The best part of Madden 05-12 is drafting and watching them progress and flourish and become stars, like taking an 78 overall running back or linebacker and turning him into a stud by about his second or third year in the league by putting him on ground attack and chase and tackle drills respectively. I enjoyed that aspect of the game. When they took out the import classes, it really killed franchise for me.

I agree I love the Franchise Mode on Madden 20 (favorite PS4 Madden) because that’s mostly what I play with online matchups being so expensive for the PS4 compared to the PS3 online days for free. Madden 2002 was probably my most played madden on both PS1 and PS2 and I enjoyed it a lot. It was the one got me into Madden as I was mostly a NFL Gameday fan during the PS1 days, I then got my first taste of NFL 2K3, first 2K football game I played and since then I haven’t really found any enjoyment out of madden since, I stilled played them for certain game modes I did enjoy, but outside of those modes, the gameplay has never held my attention for long.

I do really think that if there are no OP plays in Madden 21, they fix some abilities and add more, have a much better career mode, and make franchise much better, then Madden 21 has a good chance of being in the “good” category. I started with 05 and ended with 11. Madden 06 I think was the start of the greatest because one thing that changed was you can run with your qb during a pass play. You can run with Vick as well but also it didn’t have to be a qb sneak play Madden on the psp was low key so fun. It was ps2 madden but downgraded just a little. 09 on ps3 was weirdly fun with so much crap in the game. 10 was solid nothing fancy. 11 I just couldn’t get into another madden and that’s when I stopped. I can see how people really like 07 just because of how smooth the gameplay feels.

07 was my first madden game and the first game I ever played on the xbox 360. I loved it, but it stopped working after a couple of years. The 09 was the 2nd one I played and I LOVED it

Madden 07 is the GOAT for me. Best gameplay imo, franchise was still incredible and still had the Tony Bruno show, upgraded Superstar Mode. It’s just the one I remember most fondly for me besides 04 and 05, so I definitely have to put 07 as my personal GOAT.

2006 on PS2. Absolute favorite Madden of all time. Still have tournaments with my friends playing it nearly 20 years later.

It's sad that Madden 08 on the PS2 has better gameplay. The catch animations look sketchy asf but besides that you have more control.

I like 05 more than 04 because of course graphics and gameplay advanced and although 04 was the breakout year but 05 was more balanced and not as vick heavy.

Nah madden 09 was a way underrated game. The gameplay is some of the best of the series. Player movement is more realistic than most games, presentation was good, franchise mode was really good to.
