I was so hurt by the Frappe Snowland hate but you’re not wrong, though I absolutely adore this track even if it’s simple and just a snow track because I just find them so charming. Same goes for the music too. That’s why GBA Snow Land is on my top 10 8DX tracks lol.

I think what I love about the rainbow road of this version is that it feels like the end of a prog rock album. I'm still one of those that wishes the new version was 3 laps. Cause longs tracks are hard to come by in the series and this was their first attempt at it. It's not perfect but I also think there's a distinct decision to keep it from being too crazy. I will defend it because of how much this course is carried by the blue shell acting the way it does. It'll knock you off the map and you fall for a long time. I do think that the best version is the vs one where bomb-bombs and chain chomps threaten your driving. But I doubt anyone agrees. And while the 64 tracks are pretty plain, I think the controls of 64 is what makes it so much fun for me. It's slippery controls with its really fast 150CC makes it a thrill to race in. I'm not saying you don't get it but it is one that feels a bit more niche. Also gotta consider the context of release. The other racer they were making was F-Zero and this was when the series was doing pretty well. So I think it's bound that there would be an influence on MK from F-zero before they decided to separate the two in the gamecube era.

i love some of the Mario Kart design quirks of old (crazier item balance, bigger shortcuts) but the longer track thing ive never liked even when i was younger, tracks like Wario Colo or RR from Double Dash were never my favourites as for the slippery controls, Super Circuit is my childhood darling so i know what wrangling an unruly kart feels like along with the satisfaction of mastering it, i guess having these controls in a game that's reletively plain and i have no nostalgia for made it harder to appreciate but im glad you do!

I do think having a history with this game does make it shine a bit more because it feels like an old friend that you can pick up on the same page when you sae them last. I didnt play Super circuit much so im sure i would feel the same way you do about 64.

If Mario Kart 64 did not have batshit insane rubber banding, not a single human on earth would have ever lost rainbow road. None. Nada. I like banshee boardwalk because I have a formative memory with it. When McDonald's had the N64 kiosks, one I went to occasionally had Mario Kart 64. I played Banshee Boardwalk one time, and the CRT television was so worn out and miscalibrated that the track was pitch dark aside from where the lamps were. It was honestly kind of neat, and it's stuck with me. That and the giant cheep-cheep is some spicy lore.

@@egbertmilton4003 It serves as a better “final challenge” track than the Rainbow Road of the game. So much so that it took Bowser's Castle's place. I can see a lot of potential for a remake compared to other N64 tracks. The game's track selection is already mediocre so to have a somewhat challenging and interesting track does make it an A.

I agree MK8's Rainbow Road remake definitely shouldn't have been 3 laps like the original, but I think 2 laps would've been fine. It feels weird that the final track of base Mario Kart 8 is shorter than every track in the game. Unfortunately for some reason Nintendo's been too afraid to do 2 lap courses outside of Wario Colleseum and the Mario Kart Tour tracks.

I love banshee boardwalk, track and music. A lot of ghost themes in Mario don't hone in the eeriness as much as this track does. I think most judge it as music for a mario kart track rather than for the theme of the level itself, and to be honest, I can completely understand that.

I’ve only seen a little bit of 64 before this, so imagine my reaction to Yoshi Valley and DK Jungle Parkway looking quite nice and interesting, and then Rainbow Road being the most ugly ass piece of cardboard I’d ever seen. Banshee boardwalk looks fine btw, boring but I’m a sucker for those ghost effects. Rainbow road hurts my eyes and seems like it would be a chore to play. God bless the 8 glowup of this one. Might be my favorite rainbow road too. The only shame about it is the fact it feels so quick, that I don’t get to play more of it in a single race :,>

I think Rainbow Road is the most divisive track in this game, and for good reason: 1) It's actually one of the best tracks in the entire series aesthetically with very beautiful visuals and music. 2) Unfortunately, it's one of the most boring tracks in the entire series in terms of its actual gameplay. Taking 6+ minutes to complete on average is bad enough, but it doesn't even do anything to make up for it. Guardrails cover the entire track of what is traditionally supposed to be the hardest in the game. The only obstacle is the chain chomps which are kind of cool but they only appear rarely.

Tbh I think the F-Zero X version of Rainbow Road (that exists btw, look it up), is better than the MK64 one, strictly due to the speed that F-Zero X has. (I think there’s also an official version of MK64 Rainbow Road’s theme made just for F-Zero X as well.)

Mario kart 64 was my childhood Mario kart as well as Wii, but has probably aged the worst. My opinion has definitely changed based upon subjectivity. Luigi raceway - Mid, F Moo moo farm - Mid, F Koopa troopa beach - Mid, but not the worst especially compared to the rest, C Kalimari desert - Mid F - train can’t save desert tracks. Toad’s Turnpike - Mid F - cars can’t save asphalt. Frappe snowland - Mid F - snow track Choco mountain - okay I guess, reasonably difficult, but not the worst C Mario Raceway - Mid F Wario stadium - Mid F - what happened wario?!? Sherbet land - Mid F - another snow track Royal raceway - Mid F - I see it as a glorified circuit track, it’s just ehh Bowser’s castle - okay, but compared to the others castles, ehh B DK Jungle parkway - Mid F - DKM is better. Yoshi valley - ehh, alright C Banshee boardwalk - Mid F - I like the idea of a course being even worse than Bowser in terms of the horror and atmosphere, but executed very poorly. Rainbow road - Mid F (remake made it amazing however)

N64 Rainbow Road in MK8 should've been 2 laps like Wario Colosseum in Double Dash!! and it would've been the perfect length instead of being too short, but Mid Kart 7 introduced the 1 lap tracks gimmick and ruined everything (thankful for Mount Wario tho, the only good thing to come out of it) EDIT: Oh my god the same argument was in the video... Allow me to go a bit deeper: N64 Rainbow Road is the most boring shit ever and even a single lap is too long, but the 8 version has lots of boosters and tricks making the whole thing 10000x more entertaining, but also making the full course take like one minute instead of the grueling 6 minutes of N64. All I ask is 2 for minutes

appreciate the feedback, upon testing, i think the issue is that with my old mic, i had to have it right in front of my face or it captures very little whereas with this one, leaving it a little away seems to be for the better but my muscle memory always insists i have the mic really close lol - ive also changed some of my compression stuff so hopefully you'll notice the difference next time!

@@dom1n8r64 it was WAY too much jank. The only courses that I think are good to race on are Bowser Castle, Luigi Raceway, Kalamari Desert, Koopa Beach, Moo Moo Farms and Wario Stadium. The n64 remakes in Mk8dx and Ds are WAY better. Oh and it’s not overrated by the way because for years a lot of people who grew with 64 say it’s TOP 5 Mario Karts when in reality, it’s just nostalgia carrying because the game ain’t even all that when you compare every other Mario kart in terms of Controls, gameplay and tracks. Only two Mario karts it’s better than is snes super Mario kart and super circuit.

Just because I can’t do speed runs doesn’t mean that I can’t say that this game isn’t that good even tho it’s a good Mario kart game. You can’t shut down my opinion just because you don’t agree. MKWii is still loved today because of the overall strong selection of tracks in the series and people still play the game online to this day even with the servers shut down and KZbinr TWD98 is carrying and keeping the Mario Kart Wii modding community alive. MKDS isn’t overrated because even though it was a lot of people’s first Mario Kart for people who had a DS, they can at least admit the retro selection is mediocre but it was the first time retro tracks were made for Mario Kart pulling tracks from all the previous Mario Karts and it’s not like Super Circuit where it’s just SNES tracks being added using super circuit environments for the old tracks. And IDK what you mean by DS having some of most boring course when it has the strongest selection of Nitro Tracks before MKWii came after and it’s still praised to this day along with a well made Mission Mode that and Battle Mode that still holds up to this day and still loved by Mario Kart fans. Maybe you have a skill issue with tracks like DS Rainbow Road and DK Pass which is probably why you don’t like some of the tracks. And 64 is better than SNES, Super Circuit and Tour by nowadays, that isn’t saying much and other Mario Karts improved or added new gimmicks that N64 lacked. So again, it’s cool to have a opinion about N64 not being overrated but don’t try to shut my opinion down just because that’s not how that works and I don’t care to learn the speed runs for N64 when people can know about the speed runs and play the game casually and still not enjoy it compared to modern Mario Karts.
