So, a little something on Cheep Cheep Islands Placing in the Lightning Cup. While I agree, it is a bit simple for coming in the middle, it's the time of day that's important. We start this cup with a rainy morning with Luigi Circuit, with a based af blimp. We go to sky garden after that, probably right above Luigi Circuit, we see the blimp again and it's daytime. Next we get a beach in the evening, and right after that were getting to see the sun go down to nighttime in sunset wilds. I don't know if that was intentional or not, and I don't care. This games lightning cup is art and my man cheep cheep island is an important part of why that is. Also while you can take that actually planned shortcut... you can do a way cooler skip with a mushroom over the water, which is stupid fun.

If you didn't know there's another big shortcut on lakeside where you can shroom across the entire lake just before the bridge if you time it right, probably the sickest shortcut I've ever seen in a mario kart game lol

My hot take is that in the early days of the series the games with more primitive hardware (Super Mario Kart, Super Circuit and DS) actually had better soundtracks than the ones on comparatively more powerful consoles (64 and Double Dash). I think because the sound palette is more limited the composers realized they had to compensate even harder with insanely catchy and dynamic tunes. 64 and DD feel a bit more static by comparison; 64 in particular has a lot of tracks that take a decent hook and just run it into the ground, the circuit theme is a good example. My other hot take is that Sky Garden has better Rainbow Road music than this game's actual Rainbow Road.

Super Circuit in general is a very underrated game in my opinion and I especially find Cheep-Cheep Island and the GBA version of Rainbow Road to be super underrated! I really hope GBA Rainbow Road is the last track of the Lightning Cup in Mario Kart 9 (or 10 if you count Tour).

Ah yes Super Circuit. Glad this game has gotten a lot of love lately in recent Mario Kart games! The best courses from this game are imo Sky Garden, Cheese Land and Bowser Castle 4. The main thing that I like about the GBA tracks is their amazing backgrounds. Even though I've never played super circuit before (ds was my first Mario kart game), I always find myself paying more attention to the background rather than the track itself.

Super Circuit is one of the best games in the series, no doubt. It’s controls are so smooth and easy to understand, it’s 2D graphics are both charming and work well with the game and it’s tracks are bangers upon bangers.

Lakeside Park, Broken Pier, and Rainbow Road are probably my top 3. The desert tracks in this game fun too. The Bowser Castles were never my favorites but BC4 in particular was really fun. (I really like the special cup in this game if you couldn't tell)

Never really enjoyed Super Circuit too much, and it was mostly because I never got a hang of the drifting, so entirely a "me" problem. But I can't deny that the amount of content Nintendo shoved in this game deserves to be praised, and the soundtrack is a total banger overall!

Oh I'm so pleased you put Bowser Castle 3 and 4 in S tier as those are my two favourite tracks as well! I think you were too kind with Vanilla Lake 2, bloody hate that level. I can't believe you hate the Rainbow Road SNES track, I always liked that one and was the most memorable for me out of the SNES tracks! I dunno if I usually played Mario Kart SC with no volume but I barely remember most of the music for the tracks.

Well both 8 and supper circuit have “different “ circuit tracks. 8 has the original demo circuit track which you can hear when you have Super Circuit in the virtual console of the Wii U. While Super circuit In GBA and all the other remakes have the second circuit track theme

Mario Kart: Super Circuit is a great game. I love the soundtrack. I listened to it at school on Mrs. Mcnett’s speakers one day at high school in 9th grade during gym class and when character select screen theme sounded amazing and the Boys in my class were yelling ayyyyy.The echo of the speaker made it sound amazing.

My condensed opinions on each track: Peach Circuit: As far as starting tracks go, it's decent. Nothing really of note but it's good at teaching the player the rules of the road. C+ Shy Guy Beach: A nice and simple beach track that gives off a great vibe but I've never found all that interesting. B- Riverside Park: This is in my eyes the first real track of the game. We've learned the basics so now it's time to test our knowledge of the game and its mechanics. It's easy enough to be in the mushroom cup, but it has more difficult shortcuts that make it worth replaying. A- Bowser Castle I: The thwomps make for a good obstacle and the jumps make the straightaway more interesting. Wish it were a bit longer, but I'm happy with what we got. B Mecchrio Circuit: There's nothing going on here except for the admittedly good addition of the pit stop. It doesn't even have the excuse of being a starter track that Peach Circuit did. C- Boo Lake: One of my favorites in the game. The invisible bridges provide for nice, challenging shortcuts and the atmosphere is fittingy haunting. A+ Cheese Land: I love the theming and the first half of the track with all the turns and jumps, but I feel like the second half kinda loses steam with none of the challenge provided by the first part. A Bowser Castle II: Never really cared about this track, it's the Mecchrio Circuit of this game's Bowser Castles. C+ Luigi Circuit: I love the rainy aesthetic, the turns are challenging and the puddles are decent hazards. Also LUIGI BLIMP HYPE!!!!111!! B+ Sky Garden: I've heard people call this the beginner's Rainbow Road and that makes sense, especially considering that it's placed at the exact halfway point of the game. It even has (slightly less) epic shortcuts just like Rainbow Road. Also LUIGI BLIMP HYPE!!!!111!! S Cheep Cheep Island: Shy Guy Beach if it got to escape the mushroom cup. This feels way more like a relaxing beach and fully displays the potential for what a beach track can do. The sunset background is very pretty as well. B+ Sunset Wilds: The only version of this track that exists. The track itself isn't anything all too special, but the titular sunset brings it up significantly. B+ Snow Land: Yes, the screen shakes. Yes, it's annoying. I don't really care. I've never noticed it and when you don't pay attention to the shaking it's a perfectly decent snow track that I often find myself having fun on. A Ribbon Road: *The* best track in the game. The jumps provide verticality in this very horizontal desert of a game and it makes it so thrilling to go through. The quality does drop a little bit after the first half like Cheese Land, but the turns still remain challenging and the boosts keep it exciting enough to stay one of my favorites. S Yoshi Desert: I don't hate it. The oasis shortcut is nice and the piranha plants are a funny obstacle that keeps you from veering off the track. B Bowser Castle III: I love the blue aesthetic and it feels like the most well realized of the four Bowser Castles in this game. It's just a bit too long. Lakeside Park: The asshole boost pads, similarly to the Yoshi Desert piranha plants, are a funny way of incentivizing the player to stay on the track. B+ Broken Pier: The less cool Daniel. Does pretty much everything Boo Lake does but worse, and it's very clearly just a filler track when the developers ran out of ideas. D+ Bowser Castle 4: Very complex, though possibly a bit too complex for its own good. It's also a bit too long, though I still have a very fun time most of the time. Rainbow Road: Ribbon Road was the best, but this one is my favorite. The jump pads on the sides are a delightful way to fuck with the player, but you can also use them to your advantage to take some of the best shortcuts in all of Mario Kart. S+ All of the SNES tracks: F- to F+, I hate them all

did some looking around while making this video - apparently they were also developing a port of Super Mario Kart to the GBA but later in development, Nintendo scrapped the idea. Instead of putting the SNES tracks they had already made to waste, they added it as bonus content for Super Circuit. Pretty neat overall but yeah, most of em end up being the inferior version because of this

If indeed that is true, it would very much explain why the game got delayed for multiple months, the game was practically finalized in february of 2001 and was supposed to come out around that time, i believe march was the U.S original release date, but due to nintendo requesting the snes retro tracks to be added in february last minute, those tracks became very rushed and not very polished compared to the base game tracks, and instead releasing in September here lol I only know this because i documented a lot of the game's development on TCRF, but yeah those SNES tracks were kinda a disappointment in the long run 😢.

Cheep Cheep island may not be the best track objectively, but I think, at the very least, that it's one of the most beautiful to look at. If Cheep Cheep Island is your favorite track in the game, you should make it in Minecraft and fulfill your dreams. Also I personally think BC3 is objectively better than 4 because it's more consistent.
