Yeah the hate fir piranha plant cove is nonsensical. It has everything a non anti gravity course needs to be great. The water sections aren't pointless and short like they are in some tracks and the layout is rlly good. The music is out of place though.

I agree with your number 1. I think every other track brought back had to make some sacrifices some being worse than others. Rainbow road wii makes no sacrifices and anti grav and 200cc actually makes it even better.

- sunshine airport is themed well but feels mid to actually drive on - i want to rank super bell subway and neo bowser city as among the very best (top four?) because they are extremely fun to drive and have good settings - dk jungle and daisy cruiser are two of the tracks of all time - sydney sprint is one of the city tracks of all time (music is cool, but so is singapore, madrid, and rome) - 3ds rainbow road is good but far from being one of the best tracks of all time - moonview does not escape the same fate toad's turnpike did of mario kart 8 traffic being not that challenging, and as such imo not that good. sad because moonview is among my favorites in wii. shroom ridge however is Great because of two lanes and the curvy layout making it still tricky - toad circuit and snes mc3 being so widely disliked makes them less forgettable than they probably would've been. not the best circuit tracks (royal raceway, yoshi circuit, nbc) but they're fiiine and not the worst circuit track in the game (that'd be figure-16 circuit which has a cool gimmick and absolutely nothing else) - tokyo blur imo is a slightly better city track conceptually than ny (just manhattan, mostly buildings and central park) or paris (arc de triomphe, champ de mars, luxor obelisk, repeat), and i also prefer it over london (drags out for long and is so gray, it makes sense but eh). while i think it could've been better (i bet if it wasn't among the first, imperial palace would've at the very least been present) it represents downtown tokyo decently though ny/tokyo/paris is still the battle of very mid

i don't think there is exactly an anti-desert hivemind and mostly that people think most desert tracks are mid or boring. i see some relatively popular desert tracks (kalimari desert, sunset wilds outside of 8dx, dry dry ruins, shy guy bazaar) so i think it's primarily the lack of a prominent setpiece (or gimmick in the case of sw) that could be the thing for most desert tracks that being said imo bone dry dunes is one of the better desert tracks because it's fun and tricky to drive
