I don’t really expect many people outside of other Tigers fans to know this, but Parker Meadows was a top tier hitter the entire second half since coming back up from the minors with an .840 OPS. He also had 7 OAA on the year despite missing a large chunk of time. Don’t be shocked if he starts making waves as an All-Star CF soon

Parker Meadows ended the year so hot after getting called back up. 900 OPS in August, 800 OPS in September, 800 OPS in the playoffs and had a hit in every playoff game for the Tigers. Unbelievable defender in CF, might be the best in the American League.

Coming from a Phillies fan I agree with the Rojas take. People understandably overhyped his defense so much, which is good don’t get me wrong but he barely held an OPS over .600 in a full season played. I have no animosity against him but I don’t want him back in Philly next year.

keyword pace just because someone is "on pace" to do something doesn't mean they will. players will have a hot streak and wow they'll be on pace for 154 homers and 364 rbis and it's happened where they are on pace for that but using predictive stats rather then a more useful stat like BaBip using predictive stats is never useful unless it's a pitcher in where it's a little bit more useful but never reliable

@@michaelp5442 not really, bellinger struggled with injuries, and had a worse year at the plate then 2023, combine that with PCAs incredible defense and solid batting, PCA was better (this year, not in general)

@ fair points, but Bellinger’s OPS+ on the year was over 20 points higher, which for me personally, makes up for PCA being a mildly better defender. Bellinger is still an elite CF, even if OAA was down a little this year.

As a Marlins fan, I've got Dane Myers as the starting CF. He has not had a ton of big league experience, but he was decent at the plate and in the field and while I would prefer him in a corner spot, he is the best option at CF for the Marlins now. I like Derek Hill as a platoon bat and pinch runner. He has a .846 OPS vs LHP in his career (albeit like Dane limited sample) vs a .509 vs RHP. He can take turns giving a day off to Conine or Jesus Sanchez.

Isbel is a Gold Glove caliber CF. He's slightly better than "no bat", but he should be in that tier. His defense and baserunning are more than enough to justify starting him as your 8 or 9 hitter. If I had to keep one Royals outfielder for next year, I think it would be him (unless Blanco can use that yellow crayon bat all the time lol)

Daulton Varsho had a 5.1 bWAR and a 98OPS+, it’s not like he’s a terrible hitter, he’s pretty much average. He should be in the good category.

I think it’s unfair to have Varsho in anything below good. He only played 138 games this year and still put up a 5.1 bWAR. I know WAR isn’t the end all be all stat but when you look and see the rest of the guys in that tier have anywhere from a 0.5-2.0 WAR at best, it’s kinda crazy that Varsho isn’t in Good Tier. League Average hitter in 2024 with ELITE defence and baserunning

Varsho should be higher. I know there's that addition of the "Glove First, No Bat" but you're telling me a guy with 5.1 WAR isn't at least Good?! There's an argument he's a fringe all star CF. His bat isn't incredible, but a OPS+ of 98 is just about average, not full on below average. He's not a great on base machine, but the slugging and pop more than makes up for it.

personally I think you could argue Parker meadows all star. I know small sample size but he was abysmal to start the season , went to the minors, and ever since the call up he was playing like an all star. Not sure exact stats since call up but had to be batting close to like .270 and prolly around .800 ops . He was also arguably a top 3 defensive center fielder to finish the szn. Felt like every week he was making some HR robbery/diving insane catch out there that I was constantly seeing.

Victor Scott's stats are misleading. He was called up in late August and batted over .300 (I think) for the rest of his time. He got sent down, made the adjustments, and came back to the majors strong. I wouldn't put him in bench, but he isn't in the good tier. He's somewhere between good and all glove

As a Phillie fan, I couldn't agree more with Rojas. He looks lost against major league pitching. He 100% should have spent this year in the minors gaining confidence and timing. Middleton, Thomson and Long have failed him and he'll be added to the long list of top prospects that this team has ruined that will only continue to grow as long as those 3 guys run this team

I don't know why people don't think Judge plays great in the field. He doesn't have the range of many other center fielders, but he makes every play he can get to, is the best in the game at robbing homers and has an insanely accurate cannon for an arm. Defensive metrics and dWAR are about as worthless as stats get. Remember how they said IKF was the best shortstop in baseball? They also say Don Mattingly was a bad defensive first baseman. I will trust my eye that shows him as deceptively fast, making every play, stealing runs from the opponents and keeping guys glued to bases due to his well earned rep with the arm.

Yeah Ramos in CF wasn't great, but they didn't have much of a choice with Jung Hoo Lee lost for the season. With Conforto likely gone in free agency, Ramos should play better in LF & RF with Jung Hoo Lee returning to CF.

As great as Judge is - and certainly you have to acknowledge his hitting - his fielding is merely acceptable. Thing is, the position is called 'Centre Field' and the player is a 'Centre Fielder' not 'Somewhere we can park a phenomenal hitter and we're pretty confident he can catch'. He's Elite, and he's had two good seasons, but he is going to regress to the mean at some point. Also, when you say Trout's not Judge, and yet you are ranking Trout based as much on what he was [as you are what he did this season with a limited run], you have to ask, 'who has 3 MVPs' ... not Judge. But, on current form, Judge is the boss, so, for me, it is more accurate to put Judge in Elite, rather than Trout in your 'Judge' tier. Also: where's Mickey Moniak [who looks like he might finally earn that #1 pick as he is finally getting it] and Brandon Marsh... although, as he is a PHillie, you might have blanked on his existence.
