She also wasn't kidnapped when she opened the box in TTYD. She was the only one who could open it, and she gave the map inside to Mario. Also important, is that the hooded character isn't the one who kidnaps her - that character is one of the Shadow Sirens, who needed the map to reveal the locations of the Crystal Stars. Peach is kidnapped by an entire other faction, Grodus' X-Nauts, though that's offscreen. ...and they also want to open the door, like the Sirens.

A small correction: in Mario & Luigi: superstar saga, Princess Peach wasn’t kidnapped when she was hit with the gas, but her voice was. But in a twist, she was warned ahead of time and prepared a decoy. Then she gets kidnapped while taking a trip to see the toads that moved to Bean-Bean kingdom (multiple times if you struggle keeping her safe) and when Luigi leaves her to get some herbs to cure Mario.

You did Fawful's plan in Bowser's Inside Story dirty. It's one of the most convoluted plans in the franchise. His ultimate goal is to awaken the Dark Star. For this, he needs Princess Peach. But he knows that Mario, Luigi and Bowser will be a problem. So he comes up with a plan to neutralize all of them. First, create the Blorb epidemic by giving Toads Blorb Shrooms. This will put the Kingdom into crisis mode and make it easier to take over. Next, give Bowser the Vacuum Shroom and send him to Peach's castle. This gets rid of Mario and Luigi, with the side effect that Peach also gets inhaled. Because of the Shroom's effects, Bowser is unconscious for a long time. Third, conquer Bowser's castle while he is out and brainwash all his minions. Fourth, now he needs Peach. For this, play with Bowser's ego. After he wins a fight with Midbus, trick him into eating a victory feast. Said feast immobilizes Bowser. Fifth, use Bowser's immobility to extract Peach. Finally, steal the Dark Star, take over Peach's Castle and blockade it using the Dark Star's power. If that's not a 1000 IQ plan, I have no idea what is

Not only that, but he also had a plan to get rid of Bowser. He placed a treadmill beneath the floor Bowser was stuck in (too many victory cakes) so that once he got unstuck, he would be forced to work out so rapidly that he caught fire, detonating an entire room of explosives. Only goofy Mario logic kept him alive.

I actually think Super Mario Galaxy should be in 1000+ IQ tier, because you forgot another detail of Bowser's plan: In order to get the power necessary to summon the UFO and also to teleport the castle away once in space, he attacked Rosalina's observatory and sapped all of its star power, which also served the purpose of neutralizing a major threat to his plans, which would have certainly caught Rosalina's attention given the nature of said plans. Also, he somehow knew that the observatory was the thing behind the star festival and planned this whole thing around it. After stealing the star power and immobilizing the Comet Observatory, Bowser launches a full-scale invasion with many airships. He uses his newfound power to rain imprisoning crystals upon the kingdom, along with bombarding it with meteors from the airships' cannons, in the hopes of hitting Mario, who he knew would be present, and if he didn't get hit, to at least buy himself some time. He would then use his new star power to summon a gigantic UFO that would cut the earth under the castle away, so that he could use airships to lift the whole thing up into space. If Mario got through and managed to make it to the castle, he also had Kamek there to serve as a trump card, and Kamek blasted him off the front stairs. And to ensure Mario couldn't come back and catch up to him, he then teleported the castle away, also with that star power. Once the castle was in the center of the universe, he then created an entire pocket dimension inside the castle using the power of a Grand Star, so that he could build a stronghold inside of it and make it even more difficult for Mario if he even managed to get there. And finally, he had a great number of airships and the UFO defend the outside of the castle as well. The only reason Bowser lost was that Luma managed to escape before the castle teleported away and brought Mario to the Gateway. That is more than 1000+ IQ, that's like a billion IQ.

Bowser practically did the same there by stealing the Star Rod and capturing the Star Spirits, giving himself immense power (the Star Rod makes him completely invincible) as well as neutralising a major threat (the Star Spirits are pretty much the highest autority in Mario's world, being prayed to like deities).

Considering it was Fawful's plan to take Peach, using Bowser, does that even count? It's like saying a woman got kidnapped by a smart car and not the person driving the car. If anything, Fawful should get credit for it, and since it was technically a success to keep both the Mario Bros busy, and keep Peach "Safe" it deserves more credit.

Peach was notably kidnapped a second time in Dream Team, and it was honestly one of Bowser's greatest moves. By that point, he has an all-powerful wish granting stone; and it's all but outright says this that he uses its omnipotent powers to just teleport Peach to him. What drives this into genius status is that Bowser also has Kamek disguise himself as Peach, replace her without anyone realizing, and then lure Mario and Luigi into an ambush super deep in the Dream World. No one even suspects what happened until the trap is sprung as Kamek's impersonation is flawless, and Peach can't be blamed for being kidnapped by something that just warps reality to the user's whims.

In Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Peach didn't get kidnapped in the opening. Her voice gets stolen, which turns out to be a lie anyway because it wasn't Peach. It was Birdo. In the second half of the game, she gets kidnapped by Rowlett and just sits in the clown car again. In Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story, Fawfull steals Peach again, after Bowser did eat her. After that, the Dark Star Swallows her, which means she was kidnapped for the third time. In Mario and Luigi Dream Team Peach gets Kidnapped 3 times too. First she gets kidnapped by an old ghost in the Pillow Castle, then she gets stuck in the dream world and Kidnapped by Antasma. And for the 3rd Time Bowser Kidnappes her ofscrenn and Kamek Pretents to be Peach to distract the Mario Bros.

Although it's very similar to the original, I think Super Mario 64 DS should be on this list too. In addition to kidnapping Peach, sealing her away, and stealing almost all of the castle's Power Stars to distribute among his minions, Bowser also managed to kidnap Mario, Luigi, AND Wario, and leaving them each under the watch of the Goomba King, King Boo, and Chief Chilly. And although it was pretty straightforward for Yoshi to rescue Mario, Luigi's warp painting was hidden in the attic of Big Boo's Haunt, and Wario's was hidden behind an illusion in the castle's mirror room. Not to mention if you don't rescue Luigi or Wario by the end of the game, they stay kidnapped indefinitely.

While some of these kidnappings aren't that accurate, such as Peach being kidnapped by Cackletta in the beginning (it wasn't even Peach, and they weren't kidnapped until much later) amd Bowser's Inside Story being Fawful's plan instead of Bowser's plan. Fawful even sets up an elaborate trap to extract Peach from Bowser's body using some kind of ray gun thing (idk how the heck that works, but still).

I would argue Bowaers kidnapping Peach in Paper Mario 64 was 9000 IQ. Because not only did Bowser take Peach’s Castle to the sky, a place way harder to intrude on then the ground, he got the invisible weapon, kidnapped the people who could stop the people, and built a battlefield amplifying the power of the invisibility so even if Mario got the 7 sages to counter the power, they would be outmatched. Can’t even say doing it while Mario is around is a flaw, since he’s invisible, makes it easier to take him out before he can form an effective counter-attack. The only problem was leaving the people guarded by guards and not himself guarding it. But that is a small problem with this amazing plan.

My view is, Bowser is not all that "smart" sometimes cuz he's not after Peach out of creepy possessiveness. At best his intentions are like in the recent movie... corny obsessive romance but he has STYLE, he wants to show off how AWESOME he is but he's a bully and a tyrant, not a rapist or a murderer. He has CLASS, in a sense. For Bowser, he seems to do what he does simply to show everyone in the world who's boss. He does it for the fun of it. For the thrill. Sometimes, he also goes above and beyond, like going for the Star Rod but for the most part he seems to just like stirring up trouble and loading other to do something about it. Not much else makes sense.

Honestly, I wouldn't say that the SMB1 is 'Room temperature IQ', considering Bowser turned everyone that he thought would have had a chance to stop him into bricks and stuff. It's the first game so it makes sense that he wouldn't know about Mario, since the last time they tussled was when they were all babies. Lost Levels is technically a sequel so while he took Peach to another world, he did at least know about Mario at that point. So I dunno whether I'd say that's more or less intelligent. SMW... All we really know there is that Bowser snatched Peach again. In the GBA version there is an intro that shows that she got snatched while Mario and Luigi were flying around using capes. As for Peach not being tied up... Bowser's a giant turtle monster and had Peach in his car with him. Pretty sure she didn't need to be tied up to keep her secure. As for kidnapping Peach right in front of Mario's house... at least it was easier to snatch her there then it would have been to snatch her from her castle. But yeah, short sighted plan. There is a LITTLE bit of brain there but not much foresight. Paper Mario was one of the better plans, for sure. He knew that Mario would come to rescue Peach, and he had a plan to take him out. And without the Star Spirits, he would have been completely unopposed and completely invincible. ...I don't know if I'd say that Sunshine was 1000 IQ. Yes, Bowser Jr. does trick people into thinking he's Mario... somehow. Despite, y'know, being all blue and gooey. But... it would have been pretty obvious fairly soon that Mario wasn't behind it, even if Mario wasn't basically assigned community service. Mario in jail, another Mario running around, spreading graffiti and kidnapping Peach? You'd figure out pretty quickly that it's an imposter. Mario gets assigned community service, and almost immediately you see Mario in public chasing down a blue, gooey Mario... again, not exactly difficult to figure out it's an imposter. It's definitely better than the SMRPG plan of just snatching Peach from in front of Mario's house when she was completely unguarded, but it's still lacking a lot of foresight. Like... Mario in jail? Mario would be pretty quickly released when they see another Mario running around, and Mario would immediately be after his imposter to save Peach. Mario on community service? Immediately after the imposter when they snatch Peach. It's a fairly good plan but it lacks a fair bit of foresight. It'd be even dumber if Bowser Jr. actually DID believe Peach was his Mom, but luckily, he doesn't. Superstar Saga was... admittedly pretty smart, actually, when Peach DOES get captured. Mainly because she gets captured when Mario is unable to stop said kidnapping... but they then end up getting fooled. They get fooled by Luigi in drag, and think that HE is actually the Princess. As for Paper Mario Thousand Year Door... that's literally not when Peach was kidnapped. The box contained the map, and she had enough time to ask around about it a bit and send the map to Mario. The X-Nauts kidnapped her later and just wanted information on the map. They at least managed to kidnap her without anyone finding out, like, Toadsworth only concluded that she had been taken when he couldn't find her, as opposed to her being stolen in broad daylight in public, apparently no-one saw her being abducted. You say that the plan in Pinball is smooth brain but it was simple, and it was effective. And it worked, Peach got kidnapped. I think everyone else is mostly smooth brain for allowing it to happen, Bowser was at least a little smart for going with a simple plan that apparently no-one saw coming. It was definitely more of a '...wow. I can't believe that worked' moment but honestly... I think Mario and everyone else was dumb enough to allow it to happen. ...I dunno if New Super Mario Bros was that good of a plan. Because Mario literally saw Bowser Jr. steal Peach and was IMMEDIATELY after him. Bowser Jr. even has to fight and hurt him before he can get away. Like you say that he left without a trace or a note BUT HE WAS LITERALLY SEEN KIDNAPPING PEACH. Mario DS... shrinking down everyone so he can kidnap all of them is actually pretty smart, honestly. Plus Mario can't rescue Peach if he is kidnapped as well. That's kinda big brain. And sucking away everyone into another dimension is 'Room temperature IQ'? Really? Again, I dunno if I'd say Mario Galaxy's plan was 'smart'. It was definitely a big show but stealing the entire castle and taking it into space? Seems a bit over the top and they only reason Mario didn't stop Bowser immediately was due to a smart Magikoopa thinking on the fly. ...And why is Petey snatching Peach '1000 IQ'? Mario might be gone but there is still a hero, Kirby, right there. Peach also can very easily get rescued IMMEDIATELY, depending on which cage you break. Why is Bowser's one less intelligent, considering he was likely stalking them and immediately jumped in to kidnap Peach the INSTANT Kirby wasn't there, turning her into a trophy nd snatching her away without a trace. That's a way smarter plan than putting her in a cage when a hero is RIGHT THERE and immediately ready to kick your ass. NSMBWii again, is smarter than you're giving it credit for. Yes, it's silly. But it worked. No-one saw it coming, despite the airship being right outside. Like, if you were guarding a Princess, would you expect someone to steal her by tossing a cake onto her and then running away with the cake? You can say it's dumb all you like but it WORKED, and it worked WELL. Mario Galaxy 2... much more basic. Much less that could go wrong. Just stealing Peach instead of the entire castle. Because, last time, if you'll remember, Mario was actually able to get to said castle before Bowser took it away and it was only a quick-thinking Magikoopa who managed to stop Mario from foiling Bowser's plans immediately. A more basic plan doesn't mean it's less clever. Hell, if you're able to think up a basic plan that works, then that can actually be more clever. Bowser's Inside Story... well the first one wasn't even intentional. Bowser doesn't even remember 'kidnapping' her. The character FAWFUL stealing Peach from inside Bowser, though... Fairly clever, since it was Fawful's plan all along. He knew where Peach was, knew that Bowser was going to come after him after sucking up Peach... so that's big brain, really. Got Bowser to bring Peach right to him without Bowser even knowing. NSMB2... the only negative I can think of is that they showed that they kidnapped Peach, but honestly, when Mario and Luigi returned to the castle, they would have found out that she'd been kidnapped too, and since they saw the Koopalings, they would have put 2 and 2 together. As for them slamming down onto Mario and Luigi, making them lose their power-up so they wouldn't be able to follow them... Bowser Jr. did do something similar in the first game, but that was just making Mario small, and that was more of a scuffle after he'd stolen Peach. Had absolutely no effect on Mario being able to follow him, though, so less intelligent than this one, honestly. Especially since he stole her when Mario was within eyesight. I'll agree that NSMBU is a smart plan. Rather than stealing Peach, they just take over the castle after throwing the heroes away. Might have been even smarter to snatch up Peach and take her away to Bowser's castle while the heroes were scrambling to get back to Peach's castle, but still. Two Bowsers teaming up to steal two Peaches, and they waited until the Mario Bros and Paper Mario weren't around to stop them? A basic plan, but also a smart one. Mario Run: "Mario could have called for help" Who exactly would he have called, considering the Toads are completely useless at keeping Peach safe? Bowser admitted his crime to Mario, sure, but he also knew that Mario was the only one who would be able to stop him and wouldn't get there in time. Mario would have found out when he got to the castle anyway, so Bowser telling him that he was about to do a kidnapping wasn't really relevant, doesn't deduct from the smartness of his plan that much because it doesn't make any real difference. SMM... again, nice and simple plan. The fact that it's so simple and yet it worked actually means it's pretty clever. We also see that Mario isn't there while the kidnapping is happening so they waited for the right time to do it. Odyssey... yeah, big brain. Bowser was ready to fight Mario, Bowser had a plan to try and get Peach to marry him, including gathering up a lot of the things they'd need for said wedding... Even before going to the Mushroom Kingdom he went to another kingdom to destroy all their airships to make it even harder for Mario to follow him. The place where the airship they use is, that's the only airship there, so it makes sense that Bowser probably didn't know it was there. As for Peach just walking away... keep in mind Mario was there. And he had just been beaten by Mario as well. If Bowser had tried anything more aggressive than just offering her flowers, Mario would have likely just kicked his ass. Smash Ultimate... if it was a plan that was able to kidnap basically everyone (except Kirby because Kirby is Sakurai's favourite) isn't it actually a super smart plan? Luigi's Mansion 3... lured them there, waited until night to steal everyone, and at that point, Luigi didn't have a Poltergust or anything so the ghosts had nothing to fear from him. I agree, big brain. SMM2... Again, you say 'silly pants' but it worked, and Mario and Yoshi didn't even immediately notice what had happened. It's another simple plan and it's honestly not that far different from, say, the NSMB2 one. They just didn't rough Mario up that time which makes sense because Mario didn't have any special power-ups, making him small wouldn't have done much.

Actually, in Mario & Luigi's Dream Team, that wouldn't count as Luigi kidnapping Princess Peach. They weren't aware Princess Peach getting too close would get her sucked in to Luigi's Dream. Also, in Mario's Pinball Land, Mario wasn't aware Goombas appeared in the Festival. It's a pretty much brief reaction. Also, for the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, the X-nauts had kidnapped Princess Peach wasn't for the Mushroom Kingdom, it was because they were saw her open the chest with the map and info of the Crystal Stars that they were looking for and as well as later Sir Grodus plan on using her as a body hostage to resurrect the Shadow Queen take over. Paper Mario: The Oragami King does count as a kidnapping since she did get turned and brain washed into an evil Oragami.

In Thousand Year Door, the "Merchant" is actually Beldam, one of the Three Shadows/Shadow Sirens, who is personally is on the lookout for pure hearted individual to not just open the box containing the map... but uh... spoilers for end game. It's because she is the one who summoned the cataclysm that destroyed the kingdom 1000 years ago before it was sealed behind the 1000 year door, a seal that could be broken with the crystal stars. Meanwhile, she has long since tricked the leader of the X-Nauts, Grodus, into thinking that the Shadow Queen will obey whoever revives her, thus causing the gathering of The Crystal Stars, the only thing that can both contain... and REVIVE the long since sealed Shadow Queen. But you might be asking "where does peach come into the picture?!" It's because the Shadow Queen requires a vessel. Peach is the vessel. She was taken FOR A PURPOSE, and that purpose was to literally destroy the world. TTYD is not just 1000 IQ, it is Multiverse Brain.

I just wanna point out that we DO get to see how Princess Peach gets kidnapped in Super Mario World, except that we only see this on the Gameboy Advance remake (Super Mario Advance 2). There's a whole cutscene where Mario and Luigi fly with the cape powerup, and we see a bunch of enemies. Then they come back, but Princess Peach is nowhere to be found. Paper Mario should be moved up a tier. Yes Mario was there, and Bowser himself outright says he knew Mario would be there. He planned everything to go the way it did. In other words, the run-in with Mario wasn't an accident, it was expected and planned around. He did it in such a way that Bowser didn't have to give a damn that Mario would be present. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga also needs a serious second look because later in the game, you learn that they didn't get Peach at all and instead they got Birdo to disguise as Peach and take the fall. She would later get kidnapped by Cackletta (in Bowser's body) when Mario's sick and Luigi is away to get the cure for him, but that was less planned and more convenient timing for Cackletta.

I’d probably actually dock some point’s from TTYD’s kidnapping. The reason behind why she got kidnapped is solid, sure, but the X-Nauts and Beldam were very sloppy about it. First, they didn’t actually kidnap Peach until after she had time to mail the legendary map to Mario, which was crucial to their plans. Second, they didn’t really keep Peach very secure after she was kidnapped, and she ended up getting access to a lot of classified information and was able to send that info to Mario without the X-Nauts knowing. Granted, the main computer of their base was helping her and was likely erasing any evidence that she was doing anything, but you’d think they’d at least have some extra security measures in place with how crucial Peach is.

I would move the thousand year door kidnapping to at the very least smart. Peach doesn’t get kidnapped when she opens the chest, that’s just when she gets the map for the stars that open the thousand year door. The X-Nauts kidnap Peach off-screen and bring her to a cell on THE MOON via a teleporter that’s hidden in the underground ruins of an ancient city. All of that so that she could be a vessel for the ancient demon spirit they plan to awaken. You could argue that the last part of the plan is somewhat dumb; you can’t expect to be able to control an ancient demon, but regardless, there is an incredible amount of effort in their plan.

I would personally put the original Paper Mario in 1000IQ tier. Bowser went for the confrontation with Mario, which typically is characteristic of a bad kidnapping plan yes, but this wasn't a stupid kidnapping plan. He procured INVINCIBILITY before tackling Mario, only engaged Mario when Bowser knew he'd win, and then beat Mario so badly he rendered him comatose for an unstated period of time. Add that to the floating castle hijinx to imprison not just Peach but also multiple other denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom including ministers and dignitaries, and Bowser's plan was a near foolproof way to nab the princess and eliminate his strongest opposition. Granted, he had no idea what to do after securing the win...but that all happens AFTER the kidnapping.

My headcanon about Smash Bros. Ultimate is that Sonic WAS fast enough to escape those beams of light. However, if you watch the intro closely enough, you'll notice that while he's running from them, he slows down to match Pikachu's speed and reaches his hand out to Pikachu, to try and save them both; he COULD'VE escaped, but he wanted to at least save Pikachu first.

Also in Thousand Year Door, the point where she gets the box isn't the point where she is kidnapped She sends the map to Mario and is then kidnapped at a later point (just by some random xnaut thugs walking up and dragging her off) The box seller gave her the box in order to see if she was pure of heart (the box only opens for a purehearted person) At that point, they are not yet targetting Peach specifically, they were checking everyone who came and went to see if they were the right person

Something that could elevate Super Mario World in IQ Kidnapping [or maybe not] , is the fact that the GBA version of the game does show Peach getting kidnapped [not the kidnapping itself, but we get an explanation]. Mario, Luigi, and Peach take a little vacation to Yoshi's Island, where they're excited to have a picnic at. While Peach sets up the picnic, Mario and Luigi decide to go on ahead and explore the island. Once the bros had their fun, they returned to where Peach was, only to not find her there as they realized that she's been kidnapped without them finding out about it until too late. It's implied that either Bowser kidnapped her while the bros were away, or it was the Koopalings who did it. And unlike other entries, no letters or other trace left behind to let the bros know that he did it. It's a simple plan, but it was executed nicely.
