Not gonna lie, the Johnny Test segment brings back memories, but the parodies portraying parents not understanding why kids enjoy the Pokémon franchise sounds like the most boomer thing I've ever heard, hence why this trope is tired, as there are adults who are fans of Pokémon nowadays.

You got that right. I'm 33 years old now, and I still play Pokémon. That franchise is my die-hard favorite anyway! ❤

Fun fact about Big City Greens: One of the storyboard artists for the show, Kiana Mai, is a huge fan of Pokémon - and even a bigger fan of Team Rocket! Her love for Pokémon really shines through with the episodes she had worked on.

Ninja Turtles is interesting because ninjas are well known to be a Japanese character archetype with a cultural origin. But since they’re usually drummed up to be pizza dudes from NYC sewers nobody cared? Or ninjas were always cool? Cause they ought to have been.

Honestly, while I get the adults not getting it is a tired trope, as someone who hid my interest in Pokemon because my family would make fun of it every time it came up, it also kind of feels nice to feel like it wasnt something just I had to deal with.

It's not in the video because it's in a video game but Sims 4 has it's own Pokémon reference with Void Critters which is the in universe version of Pokémon they are collectable cards and have an item that is used to play with the cards. There's even beds that are themed around it and posters which makes it feel like a popular franchise in universe. It's a really cute little reference that fits into the world of the game

Funny that you posted that, lately I've been vaguely remembering a Pokémon parody that I found a long time ago and liked a lot. But I can't even remember its exact name. All I can seem to remember is that they had original designs for the creatures and were summoned by cards. And maybe it was animated. Sadly a lot of Pokémon parodies are like that, and it wasn't any of the ones mentioned in this video. However, maybe it wasn't actually animated, and it's the Pokémon parody I read a long time ago from the french "Mickey's Journal" (I swear to god if anybody replies with "Oui Oui Baguette or anything like that...) But I have a lot of issues of those, and I have no idea in which one(s) it was, so I have a lot of digging to do. And heck, that parody may not even be the one I vaguely remember, so now I would have two Pokémon parodies that I vaguely remember. I also remember that the name may have been something like "Catchimals" or something (I searchesd that specific name but to no avail). Basically a pun with the word animals and the fact that they're collectable. But once again, all of this is very blurry, and I can't confirm what is really a part of that parody or not.

You know what annoys me in these parody... the "anime" character design... half the time they use a dragon quest MC or other fantasy character design, even at the start Pokemon/Digimon used sporty/trendy children designs. Like look at the Galaxu MC, he's from some martial art battle anime not a Pokemon/Digimon parody and the one from Jhony Quest is literaly a dragon quest MC.

One thing I always remember is when the episode Pokemon Double Trouble (where Orange gym leader Luana mistakes Ash for her son) aired on UK TV, and the continuity announcer said, "Next up is an episode where a Pokemon trainer thinks she's Ash's mother. Like anyone's mother knows anything about Pokemon."
@Xiaolin-Loonatic47 минут бұрын
NGL, Johnny Test had the best parodies. Leave it to an actual Kid's WB show to parody an anime that station formerly aired, alongside another classic dubbed by 4kids: Yu-Gi-Oh. Also, gotta love that Tinymon got the GO treatment in the 2021 reboot (And by GO, I mean Pokemon GO.).

I'm actually the prop designer on Big City Greens and we had so much fun when we worked on the Galaxu episode. Almost everybody on our crew is obsessed with pokémon, and if you look closely at some of the props in the Galaxu episode we snuck in a ton of jokes references and one code. Throughout the rest of season 4 you will occasionally see little pokémon references in the backgrounds too.

I agree with your rankings but I think your being a bit to critical because you gotta take it from parents back in the day they didn't understand anything back so of course some parodies would make fun of stuff and that includes pokemon so some of your critiques are a bit dumb

I don't think he understands how South Park works. 😂 they were making fun of how Americans see Japan not making fun of Japan. (They were specifically making fun of adults and parents with their unfounded fears about popular media that kids get into.) That South Park parody is a 10/10 in my book.

Ahh. The Johnny test segment surely brings back memories. I do find it odd that the show has weridly consistent continuity for a kids show. Like the Handheld the titular character is playing tinymon on in the second tinymon episode is the same handheld he was obsessed over getting his hands on in a previous episode
