I swear ice only needs a couple of reasonable buffs to be a semi viable defensive typing. Make it resist water(maybe even be super effective against it too) and perhaps flying. Make it get a defense boost in hail, similar to rock’s SpDef boost in sand. Keep all the weaknesses

Idk Dark is just great in general. I agree that the majority of the types power lies in its utility. But it has a decent amount of resistances, one immunity, and is effective against some common typings. It’s my favorite type for a reason

Bug types can't catch a break, they have no discernable strengths unless you pair it with another type. Gen 6 giving it another resistance in the form of Fairies was the cherry on top (Which was specifically a nerf to U-Turn spam and not because the type was so OP it needed to be balanced.)

Ghost tier is actually one of the worst in the whole game... ghost is only effective against 1 type in the whole game that's psychic type. Besides that ghost is not effective on anything else it also has no effect on normal type. But ghost also has 1 weakness which is dark. So ghost +1 and -1. That's a pretty useless pokemon type tbh... .I'd actually put ghost type in the bottom of the tier list in the worst typing ever. But there is some redemption, dragon type is even worse it's not effective against anything at all. Dragon is literally +0 effective and -3 weakness. It has 3 weakness and it's not effective against anything, goddamn dragon sucks so bad the only good thing about dragon is they are quite bulky and resist some attacks like fire, water, electricity and grass so it's best attribute is that it can resist the main 4 elements fire, water, grass, electricity.

My bottom tier I think are Bug, Rock and Ice. Although I don’t think any are bad enough compared to the others to warrant pacing them in D or F. I feel like tiering types is hard without defining the exact criteria. For example with dragon, are the Pokémon that are dragon types good because of their typing or because of their stats/abilities/learnsets? An interesting way to think about it is, if you gave a mon X typing instead of Y, would it get better?

I don't think Dragon has ever been good or broken. I think people are looking at the wrong issue. Dragon as a typing is pretty ass. Only super effective on itself and a few resistances and weaknesses to common types. It was never the typing that was broken it's the Pokemon with that typing. They're almost all pseudo legends or legendaries. They have insane stats, move pools, and abilities. Dragon is the least of their positive factors.

I think Fire should be S or A Rank. I saw some OU players use a full HO- Fire typ team in OU, with Drought plus V Create Victini and other hard hitting stuff. And they had an Volcanion with Water Absorb. Plus Fire has a really strong offensive presence, especially against the many steel types in the tier and many mons have good coverage as well.

I feel like dark type struggles for neutral damage against a lot of dual types. Plus the proliferation of of fairy types, and a weakness to fighting and fairy. It also doesn’t really have a large selection of powerful moves, especially on the special side. I think ghost is just a more reliable neutral coverage.

I think Flying should be higher. It is hard to make a good team without a Flying-type. It is the only immunity to Ground (alongside the Levitate mons) and the best users of Defog which is a very important move are Flying-types. Flying is definitely more important than Dragon and Psychic. Other than that I don't have huge disagreements about the order but I would divide tiers differently. S (best types): Dark, Ghost, Fairy A (really important): Steel, Ground, Water, Flying B (good): Dragon, Psychic, Electric, Fighting, Fire C (fine): Grass, Poison, Rock D (kinda bad): Ice, Normal, Bug

I think Dark is one of the most overrated types because of how good Knock Off and Urshifu are. I also think Ghost is more centralizing, so much so that Ttar and Blissey and other Pokemon who were otherwise lackluster rose in usage to counter a Pokemon like Spectrier who has no coverage moves whatsoever. Also, Ghost/Fighting coverage is better than Dark/Fighting. If Urshifu was Ghost/Fighting it wouldn't even need Poison Jab/Iron Head for Clefable and Fini.

I would definitely put Bug in D since there is no F tier. You're usually never clicking bug moves aside from U turn and theres not much utility provided by having them on your team. Buzzwole is a rare case along with Volc, but they're both using their 2nd type to help them act as checks.

Buzzwoles bug type lets it resist Urshifus fighting moves, it’s definitely a virtue. Bug is more of a defensive/support type than offensive spammer, and that’s fine.

I personal find the issue with bug being that most bug Pokemon tend to be more offensive in stats. To add it also has 7 resistances and 2 vary common weakness in fire and rock typing. It just doesn't really have a place. Also using this list 3 of the S-tier types resistances bug and it only hits 1 type super effectively. The other issue is what it only resists 3 types being grass, ground, fighting. Grass is not that common, fighting has an immunity with ghost so that is better, so ground is really the only option for it but grass also resist which is a more bulky typing and flying is immune to it so....... :). I would like to see Bug get a buff soon. Personal I would have it resist fairy giving it a defensive option, and for it to be super effective against fairy being I feel that fairy typing needs another answer to it. using the same logic for poison and steel being weaker typings before fairy was released and had a boom in popularity and strength on release. I feel the some thing could work for bug. Don't feel it would make it OP but would give it a place and could allow for more variation in typings.

I haven’t played OU or really much singles for a few generations, but when I tried out Yveltal in VGC, I learned just how spammable dark is offensively. I found myself bringing it to nearly every match, and it only having dark type moves never bothered me as I could just have a teammate deal with fairies, which are the only really scary opponents.

I feel bug doesn't get enough love with the how good and yet invisible its moves are (like real life). Just like how dark pulse and knock off are the best moves on dark, bug gets u-turn, sticky web, quiver dance and infestation too albeit rarely which are one of the few moves that decide the game without dealing any damage. I think bug should be at least A tier, just because the things that pushed bug to C tier (reliance on secondary typing) placed dragon to A tier. The only difference between a bug mon and dragon mon is that bug usually don't have enough stat due to them designed to be in the beginning of the game while dragons are usually pseudo legendary. Both use only some of their type moves (dd, Draco vs u-turn, sticky web,qd). One can see the bug effectiveness by how strong mons get if they get a slight stat boost. There's Mosa and genesect banned and volc,buzz and mega scizor/beedrill even that all screwed metagame with just one prominent bug move each. Not to mention the prevailance of niche bugs every gen/tier like shuckle, araquanid and scyther

For me. Dark S tier. its insanio offensively but defensively u turn fighting and fairy are too present in the tier. However even though that's true knock off is the best move in the game simple as. Easy S. Bug type B tier. Ground and fighting coverage are insanio and bug counters both. Defensively Buzwole scizor put in work. Tank volcarona is a demonic sweeper and U turn is too strong however bug is just a bad typing offensively however the utility and defensive utility give it a B tier. Ghost S tier. I'm a blacephalon fanboy and while the removal of Z moves has weakened it and some other mons like gengar the addition of dragapult the teapot and the removal of pursuit ghost spam has shown how op the ghost typing is. They all have utility like willow wisp and amazing movepool's ghost is op asf rn. Also the spedef drop on shadow ball allows for breaking that shouldnt happen. Dragon. S tier. Not the typing itself it sucks offensively in a vacuum but all the dragons are too strong. Garchomp dragonite dragaput hydreigon are all insane pokemon and have the stats and coverage to maintain the best spot on the tier list. Electric type A tier. Regleleki tapu koko zeraora zapdos are all demonic offensive threats I mean going up against any of those with no ground type is an instant loss. Ghost is immune to it Fairy resists it landorus resists it and it killing steel is good but the ubiquity of earthquake makes it less decisive. Ice and rock suck in ou and the physical walls all wall fighting. However with a good dual typing such as dark or ice can make fighting types a MASSIVE threat to steel type defensive mons such as ferothorn or magnezone. My big gripe is toxapex and lando just infinitely switching into them. Fire type A tier. Again blacephalon volcarona victini moltres torkoal volcainion but most importantly heatran are just centralising pokemon. In the metagame. In my opinion heatran is the best pokemon in the OU tier. Its offensive and defensive presence are both S tier and not only does this unpredictability make it more dangerous it threatens 90 percent of the OU tier out and with its utility and defence and damage envelops the metagame around it. However even though it is so strong the fire type has a crippling weakness to stealth rocks which means many pokemon that have defensive utility such as blacephalon for fighting immunity and rapid spin blocks or volcanion which tanks earthquake from landorus and returns a 1 shot while having a 4x resistance to fire and a water immunity aswell as defog or torkoal with rapid spin sun setting and 140 base defense are forced to run heavy duty boots which with a lack of healing instead of leftovers is deadly. Fire is a fake fairy resist because stealth rocks are so strong. Overall top tier offensively but close to bottom tier defensively. Heatramd and blacephalon however are very centralising. Flying type S tier. With ground immunity and access to u turn and or volt switch flying types like pelliper corvinight zapdos(both) tornadus are excellent offensive and defensive pivots with zapdos corv and lando being some of the most centralising pokemon in the game. With the removal of hidden power the ice type coverage that plagued the tier has vanished and flying types have come out soaring laughing as the equip heavy duty boots to ignore stealth rocks. As pivots and many having access to easy recovery in roost the weakness to stealth rocks is nowhere near as bad for flying types as for bug fire and ice types and they love running heavy duty boots. Offensively the type lacks on the special side however hurricane has almost no switch ins in the OU tier and rips through solid defensive pokemon like buzzwole ferothorn toxapex landourus and clefable with the confusion chance and 110 base power though unreliable is made up for by the reliability of the flying type in general. Grass D tier. Katana is amazing and rillaboom is one of my my favourite pokemon in the tier with pokemon like venesaur and tapu bulu having niches however it is one of the worst defensive typings with niche utility. Ferothorn is a great defensive pokemon but gets chipped down and killed in this metagame more easily than for say toxapex or even landorus katana is great but gets stuffed by corv and lando 2 ubiquitous mons. As a sweeper is too easy to threaten out with any special attacking mon. Honestly great typing when paired with steel but there are only 4 grass pokemon with any place in the tier even with super strong pokemon like amoongus and tan growth in the game. Ground S tier. Electric immunity is mega strong as electric is an ELITE late game sweeping type. Stealth rock is ubiquitous on this type and the general stat distribution on this type makes them defensive and utility beasts. Their main counters water and ice not resisting then makes even defensive variants of landourus hippopowdon garchomp impossible to easily offensively check and they set up spike and stealth rocks on their defensive checks. So defensively S tier. Earthquake is an AMAZING offensive tool 100 100 is rare and powerful especially on a type that threatens steel fire and electric type pokemon. And it's only immunity the flying type gets stuffed by stone edge which every good ground type gets. And the stealth rock resistance only adds more to.one of the best typings in the game. Fun fact a choice banded mamoswine has 1 pokemon that can check it in the Ou tier. Max defense Buzwole is the only pokemon in the entire tier that doesent get 2 hit Koed by a mamoswine predicting correctly. And it OHKO's 27 of the 40 OU pokemon there is that ice and ground coverage for ya. Ice type B tier. S offensively ground flying grass and Dragon 3 s tier typings. But F tier defensively with 1 resistance itself and 0 immunities. Ice types thrive as offensive checks to powerful pokemon. Weavile is a key example of this. An S tier pokemon in the meta because it counters so many pokemon. With the big one being landourus. With the rise of hail teams ice type is almost A tier with nine tails lola's arora veil becoming prime setup for hyper offense teams aswell however the lack of defensive presence and the weakness to stealth rock hold it back. Normal type D tier. It's only good defensive attribute is a ghost immunity however offensively it has nothing so easy d tier the only good normal mon in OU is blissey. A saving grace would be wish but wish has had less play recently as the power level increased. Poison type B tier. Beats fairy is immune to toxic unfortunately is weak to ground however the poison type has such good utility and is amazing coverage for sweeping mons like komo garchomp and hawlucha. Psychic A tier. Future sight the slowbro family tapu lele and the demonic cosmic power mew are all ubiquitous in the Ou tier providing insane offensive and defensive action and teleport being so good for gaining momentum on defensive pokemon such as clefable blissey and the aforementioned slowbro family. Rock type C tier. Horrible defensive typing and not as good as ice offensively. The signiatrue missing factor of all rock moves make tock pokemon unreliable and with 0 defensive utility and weaknesses to ground fighting water and grass the rock types only saving grace is stealth rocks which it doesn't resist btw. Steel type S tier. Defensive utility General utility Offenseife utility and general offence the only thing the steel type lacks is the fucks it doesnt give of how strong it is. Katana Ferrothorn corvinight Melmetal and magnezone. I could go on for even about this type but to wrap it up quickly here is another fun fact. Steel type is the only type in the game with an ability designed to offensively check them in magnet pull. Completely insane. Water type. A tier Rain is hyper dangerous Surf and liquidation are easy to spam. Flip turn has been incredible Amazing offence and defence with only 2 weaknesses and 4 resistances the only reason water types arent s tier is lacking utility in the typing. For example toxapex has a high utility typing same with tapu fini so defensively they lack utility however water is an easy a tier typing.

The only typings that can stand up against dragon moves are steel and fairy. Almost every dragon has some coverage move for steel types, and the fairies in OU are a free switch-in for steel types in your team. Also, teams aren't typically going to run more than one fairy type, sometimes there's none, so once they're gone you're hitting teams with Draco Meteors or something like Dragon Darts with no safe switch-ins. Plus the only weaknesses are ice (which is a nearly non-existent typing in OU currently), dragon (which very rarely are dragon moves used on non dragon type mons, so you hit that counter for supereffective too) and fairy. Really fairies are the only notable counter to the typing, just like how Dark is the only notable counter for ghosts.

I think we're talking about pokemon types, not dragon Pokémon. All the pokemon you listed are good because of their other typings, stab earthquake from garchomp, psychic spam from latio(a)s, etc. The only mainly competitive dragon moves are DD and Draco Meteor, almost every other dragon type move has never seen much usage. I think that overall dragon being lower makes sense since pure type dragons have never been viable, if that makes sense. I don't know that's just my two cents.

Honestly, I agree pretty much with the list but I would move Psychic to S Tier. If you think about, they had to add an immunity in Gen 2 in form of Dark Typing and a Resist via Steel Typing. And besides all that, psychic was still amazing. Moves like Calm Mind, Future Sight, Teleport, Psychic, Psyshock and Expanding Force are so damn good. And the Users most of the time have amazing coverage and hit hard.

I think fire was underrated quite a bit. The typing's biggest drawback is the inaccuracy of some moves, which can also be said about rock type which was listed higher than it, despite only having Tyranitar in the tier. Wisp and flame body burns can cripple physical sweepers to the point where they're essentially useless, and also opens up Hex sweeps for mons like Spectrier. Moltres, Volcarona, and Heatran all have amazing versatility and utility, with Cinderace being one of the best offensive pivots in the game. Even if you wanna argue that Ace isn't exclusively a fire type because of Libero, I've never seen a set that doesn't run Pyro Ball. I don't think sun was mentioned either, even if it's not as good as rain.

I think you guys somewhat missed the point of this on some typings; you said grass was good because mons like kartana and rillaboom are amazing. However, these mons are not good because they are grass, they're good due to their insane stats/abilities/movepool combinations. The grass typing literally just holds them back; if Rillaboom was any other decent typing with an equivalent terrain/glide move (say flying or fighting) it would be banned ages ago. I would like to say the ranking for ice is a bit low imo. There’s no ice presence bc all the good ice types/move users were banned from ou. 1st it was Galarian Darm who was absolutely broken on release (unban darm pls, just ban guerilla tactics) and then Kyurem B was banned after the Aisle of Armor release. Before the pheromosa ban, it was common to run ice beam or triple axel. If these mons were never banned, They would be dominating the meta together. Furthermore, Veil/hail teams are also very threatening, especially stuff like weather ball lando t. Just giving my 2 cents. Love the vid as always Joey
