So Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man is coming out soon on Disney+, so I thought it would be nice to revisit another Spider-Man cartoon. That cartoon being Ultimate Spider-Man from 2012.
This will probably be the last one of these I make in a while. They take SO LONG to edit. I'm also going on my first break in a year this week. Videos should be coming out as normal though.

The show adapts his suit, mannerisms and powers, only for some reason they named him Ben Reilly. That's the problem, not the fact that he was called Scarlet Spider.

I like Ultimate Spider-Man because of nostalgia for sure (I grew up in a weird period where I watched both Spectacular and Ultimate like at the same time), but I do also think it's very overhated and it replacing Spectacular Spider-Man definitely made people go into it sour.

This Luke Cage outfit is based off of the Victor Alvarez Power Man costume. He's the pupil of both Luke and Danny, with somewhat of s combination of their powers.

With the benefit of hindsight, the ultimate Spider-Man TV show is actually pretty good. You have a bit of a rocky start, but it really found its footing as the series went on.

16:16 Carnage had a much more classic design in the later seasons, when it becomes something of a self-sufficient entity without a host that spreads into an infection all over New York. It was actually a pretty cool story. (Oh, and they got Dee Bradley Baker to voice him in those episodes, reprising his role from the Spider-Man PS1 video game.)

Putting them in C cause they were well translated from the comics is kinda ridiculous tbh. More comic adaptations need to adapt suits that accurately.

true, but some comic suits can be a little boring/generic or don't work with the tone of the show being too "goofy" or having too much tech which leads to them creating something new. plus sometimes certain fans may want to see something different than the original suits that a lot of characters have been wearing in various adaptations for 60+ years.

@morow28 Whenever adaptations change specific comic suits, it's almost always for the worst nowadays. So it feels way more special when suits are adapted near one to one. And I think way more people would like to see their favorite costumes depicted like they jumped from the page. And none of the suits that were accurately adapted here are boring or generic. And several of these characters had their first on screen appearance in this show, so them getting their comic accurate costumes is the best way to go.

Yeah but Kaine(with an i) had become the Scarlet Spider around this time in the books, and remains this way to this day. So the problem really is just the Ben Reilly bit, not the fact that he's called Scarlet Spider.

It might not be the best Spider-Man show BUT it’s my favorite because I watched it when I was six and I am OBSESSED WITH IT. I loved this Peter so much growing up because yeah he was a bit weird, stubborn, and annoying at times, but he always pulled through in the end and any of those other aspects didn’t change the fact that he was still a kind and caring person. I remember watching the Vulture episode so vividly as a kid because seeing Peter be so adamant about helping someone who attacked him but was clearly not okay kinda shaped my entire perspective on “bad guys” and is why I always try to understand the context surrounding people’s actions. This show made me a better person I guess, corny but true

Out of all of the Spiderman cartoons I watched growing up, whether it be 90s Spiderman, Spectacular or Ultimate, Ultimate was the one I watched the least though I do remember the Deadpool episode.

1: The decision to give Ultimate Green Goblin the standard equipment the normal one use (Gloves, gliders and pumpkin bombs) was completely unnecessary, everything else he used was fine because it made sense with the plots. That and Trapster somehow going from a guy that Spider-Man had a hard time dealing with before the start of the show to someone who is easily dealt with when it starts are the only "Designs" that I hated. And 2: It's tragically hilarious that people thought that the show was the start of all the horrible Marvel cartoons to come then realizing it was actually the end of the last one. The fact that I'm seeing the comic book writer Jeff Leob's name as one of the people responsible for all the Marvel cartoon after Avengers EMH may have a large hand in that

When watching this show as a kid, one thing would always stand out to me and that's Venom's design. Or more accurately, how it would change, for some reason. You have the first Venom episodes, where he's build like Hulk and then you have the Spider-Carnage episode where he looks very different.

I do remember really enjoying this show as a kid sonce I grew up with both Spectacular Spiderman and Ultimate Spiderman and though they are different in tone and storytelling I did enjoy elements of Ultimate Spiderman but of course Spectacular Spider-Man is still one of my favourite Spiderman adaptations. I will say the character designs for the characters in Ultimate Spiderman was a lot more detailed and unique while also being faithful to the lookms of the characters in the comics for the most part and I honestly loved the designs for Spiderman, Iron Fist, White Tiger, Doc Ock, Green Goblin (I didn't mind the hulk Green Goblin design as he still has his glider acts like the maniacal Goblin we know), Miles Morales Spiderman, Agent Venom, Venom, Kraven The Hunter, Venom, Beetle, Taskmaster and Deadpool

I like the original green goblin look and design a lot for 2 reasons: 1. Peter already has plenty of other big hulking enemies: Lizard, Rhino, Venom 2. It shows that he is a monster, yes, but he is also rich AND smart enough to get this equipment. The giant hulking brute green goblin just doesn't say "norman osborn" to me

On the later seasons some character designs change (for really good), like Sam ,that get's an look more his in the comics, Ava and Danny. Also, Daniel's first suit appears to be based on the one he uses in The Imortal Iron Fist run and the show's kinda mixed Ben Reily with Kane Parker into Scarlet Spider. But honestly his my favorite [and for record i'm not fluent in English so I may have made some mistakes writing this]

All the Doctor Octopus designs are S-tier. The Iron Octopus, Destroyer Armor, ect. Also, Vulture's season 4 design is A-tier. They took a lot of inspiration from the Ultimate comics while adding their own twist. I also liked the red and black design he had that season.
