I have never understood the statement of TP being the same as OAT. I played both as a kid and played both as an adult and they are honestly so different and unique from eachother that I don’t understand how they get compared to be so similar. Items repeat in every game but the spinner dominion rod different bomb types ball and chain are all enough to give items a change from OAT. Also dungeons are completely different. Without even mentioning the uniqueness of the story they are already so far apart. TP also has nothing to do with time travel Loved the vid and a lot of ur opinions I agree with I just never understood this take

Well you revisit a lot of similar locations. Start in a small town in the woods, go into lost woods, go into hyrule field, go into castle town, gerudo desert, lake hylia, death mountain. I think that's a big reason

Yeah same. I feel like it's just a very typical Zelda game, or at least that's how I always saw it. To me the formula of starting in a forest without family, traveling through the world with a companion, collecting artifacts, having a midway twist, and defeating Ganondorf is just the Typical Zelda formula, not something unique to OoT. I never really thought that TP was too similar to OoT, rather I always thought that Majora's Mask, Skyward's Sword, and Wind Waker were a bit odd and unusual because they didn't follow OoT's story line closer. I think in retrospect that's probably just because OoT and LttP were my first two Zelda games, and I can honestly say that I prefer the changes that WW and MM made. For me TP just felt like a cool Zelda game that botched some of the important elements and could never reach the heights OoT did, but is still enjoyable.

Great video! Links awakening was my first Zelda game and I’m so excited about Echoes of Wisdom! My fav game of all time is BOTW because of just the wonder of exploring that world for the first time that is unmatched in any video game experience for me. I’m playing Skyward Sword now and am loving the story (Zelda and Link actually have a relationship for once yay) so I agree with you there, I hope they bring back better storytelling in the open world Zelda games!

With the ranking of the first game, I wonder if Zelda fans want a game about genuine exploration. The game (along with the manual it came with) guides you through the world well. All it requires is a little exploring before Link has finished half the dungeons and is decked out with items & upgrades.

well, Breath of the Wild kinda is a modern version of the first Zelda game. That became the best selling game in the series so I think Zelda fans did want a game about genuine exploration lol

However: 1) Many Zelda fans have complained about Breath of the Wild, and prefer Ocarina of Time style 3D Zeldas. 2) Not to discount it as a fluke, but much of Breath of the Wild's success stems from it being the flagship launch title of a very popular console. Twilight Princess was much the same. 3) The exploration is not quite the same. The original Zelda's world was quite mysterious and captured the feeling of exploring the unknown. BotW features much more guidance (though far less than prior 3D Zelda titles and contemporary open-world games). Much of its enjoyment comes from its rich mechanics & chemistry system. The world itself gets pretty repetitive.

Good point about the manual. People always complain about the first Zelda game being totally random and not giving the player any help whatsoever but I never found it that bad. I actually have grown to love that part of the game. That's probably because I originally played the game with my dad, who had played the game in the 80's with the manual. He didn't know where everything was, especially in the second world, but knew how the game design worked. There is never more than one door or staircase in each section of the overworld map. Bomb Spots are always in flat walls, and are usually at least one square away from the edges of the walls. Plus if you stand in the middle of two squares you can bomb two spots at once. And most of the Bushes for you to burn look suspicious. When a section of the map is totally useless, there is almost certainly a hidden secret there. When the game came out friends would help each other with tricky secrets, and the manual would give you some important tips, making the game actually quite enjoyable. I think it's only in this day and age when we no longer have the manual or close buddies playing the same game and are used to being given clear instructions that it has become so difficult and frustrating.

Zeldas 1 and 2 and easier if you read the manual (which everyone back in the day did) and talk to NPCs. They tell you things! Also, Nintendo was the only game in town. Everyone talked about it and shared secrets. Both definitely beatable without a guide, though it will are some time

I am currently replaying the original version Ocarina of Time on Nintendo switch and it’s absolutely fantastic. Still the greatest Zelda game in my personal opinion. Water temple is vastly underrated!

I respect and understand your reasoning for putting MM where you did, but I will advocate for the game a bit here. I think Majora's Mask is a bit of a mindset thing. The big realization for the game for me is that the time limit existing has this really interesting effect where it limits your time (obviously) but paradoxically gives you infinite time. I encourage you to try to replay it without viewing restarting the loop as a punishment, and see that the purpose of the time limit is actually to encourage you to take you time. If you have to loop out of a dungeon, that blows, but thats a great chance to do some sidequests!

Side note, I'm really glad you give Skyward Sword the love it deserves. Yeah, it's flawed, but it's an incredibly special experience being so story focused, and being a love story at that. And not to mention, it will likely forever be the only fully orchestrated traditional 3D Zelda game, and it still stands as a top 5 OST all time for me.

yeah I respect Majora's Mask for trying something different but that game really annoyed me on my playthrough lol If I was just playing for fun on my free time I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. But I didn't have much time to play it on stream so that resulted in me rushing through the game

Respectfully you are wrong, twilight princess is easy s tier, the storylinegoes hard, midna has a crazy character arc, link rizzes minors, saves minors, becomes a wolf, meets a princess who was too scared of a freaking green bean with clothes, then some green daddy shiws up to the show, gets stabbed, oh yeah, and midna is also a spider, oh yeah and zelda gets possed, boss fights are a little on the easy side, but itss zelda they always are, dungeons are top teir, memorable, and lovable, epona exists, the art style is awesome, hyrule field only needs to really be traversed 3 times before warp exists, and its just a fun game man

Unpopular opinion: I never had trouble with the wolf sections of Twilight Princess and I will take them over the huge Young Link segment in OOT at any day.(OOT gets better when Link reaches adult form imo. Young Link was handled way better in Majora’s Mask with the addition of the mask transformations)

@@traviscunningham7062 Child Link in OoT serves a much greater purpose than Wolf Link from TP. This is because you constantly go back and forth between child and adult in order to progress certain areas and complete certain side quests. Even the spirit temple utilizes both forms of Link. The characters treat you like crap when you are child link but as you get older you get more respect from those same characters which was an awesome detail. The fact that nobody takes link seriously as a kid shows how ignorant the characters are because Link is literally the chosen hero of time which will ultimately save everyone in the end. I personally didn’t enjoy collecting the tears of the light and the wolf combat sections were very tedious and repetitive. I like Twilight Princess but I just don’t particularly enjoy the wolf sections. The idea was unique and interesting but they could have executed it much better.

A) Thanks for your effort to entertain us. B) How about you talk about and rank games you’ve actually played, be a good journalist. I’m old enough to have played all the main line Zelda Games at their time when they have been released and were cutting edge. That’s how you should evaluate it. So start with your beloved Skyward Sword and ignore the others. Zelda 1, Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild are the genre defining revolutionary titles. All of them S ties. Breath of the Wild suffers from the fact that its follow up game was just better. That’s what make Majoras Mask so great, it was the same engine, but it was very and decisively different. The Oracels games are overlooked but are actually the best games we had on the Game Boy Colour and today we would kill for games like that.

The Legend of Zelda is C-tier? The combination of story telling, exploring, solving puzzles, combat, item collection and side quests with npc's was revolutionary in that time. I won't argue with any other order of the list, we all got our preferences and memories, but the legend of Zelda introduced us into Hyrule. It marked the start of a franchise we all still love 28 years later, it deserves an S tier rating in my opinion (together with a "link to the past" and "The Ocarina of Time"}.

Personally I think Majora’s Mask is the best Zelda game. And I always found the time mechanic critique to be strange. I don’t I’ve ever run out of time, even on first play-through. All it requires is planning and critical thinking. In many ways the whole game is a puzzle and I love it for that.

@ gotcha. I kinda felt the same way when I was younger, especially coming in after Ocarina of time. Wasn’t until my teens it fully grew on me. Definitely the darkest game in the series with the most philosophical and touching moments i’ve seen in gaming hands down. I actually liked majora's mask better than OoT, it felt unique, whereas OoT seemed like it just took the formula of A Link to the Past and expanded on it. I also liked how dark and eerie it was, seeing the moon looming above you all the time.

Great tier list actually, very close to mine actually (if i were to rank them). Honestly any legend of zelda could be an S tier, just glad finally someone doesnt put WW in b tier or lower (my personal favourite loz). This tier list isnt very controversial to me, id say its almost perfect expect id probably put TP in s tier (also gla dto see someone who respects skyward sword, which is one of my favs, and MM not being the top which a refreshing take). Anyways most of the comments of this video absolutely disagree, which is understandable, but i have to say i almost completely agree.

@@247MrNiceguy the more I play TOTK, the harder it is to evaluate breath of the wild. TOTK makes breath of the wild look horribly dated and obsolete and I can't imagine anyone enjoying breath of the wild after playing TOTK. On the other hand, there is no TOTK without the innovations made by breath of the wild. I've noticed on the internet now it seems to be trendy to say that breath of the wild is better than TOTK. I think that's a ludicrous position to take, and I get the impression that perhaps it's kind of a trendy, edgy hipster position to take. Because objectively speaking TOTK improves absolutely everything in breath of the wild and adds so much more content. The world of breath of the wild looks horribly bare after experiencing TOTK. I don't think there is any other Zelda game that has aged as poorly as breath of the wild. The usual trend in Zelda games is for each game to have its own unique mechanic. As such each of the old games is special in its own way and still holds up to this day. The one exception is breath of the wild.

you know, ive been thinking about it some more lately. skyward sword introduced a lot of mechanics that have now become indispensable zelda staples such as stamina and crafting. historically, SS has always been the lowest for me, but I think if I were to update the rankings, perhaps I would be a bit kinder to it.

I have to hard disagree with you on Zelda 2. Maybe it had some improvements over the original, but that’s overshadowed by how severely the game punishes the player for a game over. With save states and rewinding, yes, it’s bearable, but without those things, Zelda 2 is an easy D tier for me.

Playing tmwithout the manual makes any NES ame harder, as the manuals give you tips that the game can't. It really is fascinating how modern gamers see this series, I like you am a player but a decade earlier than you being 30 years old now and started playing them over 25 years ago and I also disagree with your stuff about the original and major's mask you see as kids we didn't get access to every game or have money to buy what we wanted as kids we got one game a year if lucky and it had to last you so the tike places in major's mask didn't bother us but for your gen on tik too and needed things finished quick cannot cope with it

Jokes aside tho, pretty good tierlist, i mostly agree, with just 3 major things id change, being twilght princess and botw right up to the top of S, and majora's mask up to A tier. P.S i love seeing tierlists, really lets you relate your own opinions to the one ranking and see where you disagree or agree, and hear them out on their reasons

Skyward Sword in ur S Tier. No. Just no. There's so many reused bosses and characters.... far from S. Just no. The animation is quirky and fighting mechanics during training that just suck. Change ur thumbnail now.

Skyward Sword was the first Zelda game I've ever played and no other game can replicate the experience with it. By no means is it a perfect game, but I have an emotional attachment to it and the game really resonated with me

Spicy takes indeed. Link 2 is TERRIBLE. Unplayable. It deserves its own complete garbage tier. Link to the Past is S tier. It might be the best Zelda game, plus it isn't "all a dream" (the worst ending possible for any media ever). I'm with you on OOT. That game's excellent. Skyward Sword is okay. Nintendo tried to do something sooner than the tech could accomplish it. I like the combat system, but the game itself doesn't have as many interesting areas or options as games both before and after.

haha yeah I know I have some interesting opinions not everyone will agree with. Many of my opinions on the games are just based on how much the game impacted me and how much fun I had, rather than the games impact on the series and it's legacy. But basically every Zelda game is good and I can completely understand enjoying any of the games
