So my dad was the marketing director for golden wonder during the 90s and was responsible for launching niknaks and watsits, so here’s some useless crisp facts. 1:The myth about the colours switching comes from the fact that golden wonder had the green/blue the other way around first, and walkers did the opposite way round to stand out before they became market leader. 2: both niknaks and watsits were never named, the names we have now were always meant as place holders as they weren’t sure what to call them. 3: golden wonder had a huge pr nightmare because they had a joke on the back of a watsits packet about putting a cat in a washing machine, which some kids actual did. 4: niknaks and whatsits are exactly the same thing, except the extruding nozzle was removed from the watsit machine to make niknaks. 4: when launching the rib’n’saucy niknaks my dad lied to the press about them being an aphrodisiac and that a guy in the office was now expecting a child due to them, which the press picked up and long story short, my mum is now featured on page 3 of the sun next to the topless girl pretending to be pregnant with another man’s baby to keep up the lie. 5: they were trialing both whopping watsits and weenie watsits back in 90s but when golden wonder went bust, the brands were sold and now walkers have rebranded whopping watsits as watsits giants. As a pr stunt back in the day my dad sent a prototype whopping watisit into blue Peter pretending to be a 7 year old boy who just found a really big watsit in his bag, which was actually shown on tv and we still have the blue Peter badge they sent us. I still can’t really believe there was a time when a large watsits was literally tv worthy, but hay ho.

When I was a kid (and still now!) I liked cheese and onion but not salt and vinegar. I associated salt and vinegar with blue and cheese and onion with green because that's what colour Golden Wonder crisps were, and I would throw a tantrum if my parents tried to give me the blue Walkers crisps. I wasn't old enough to read and didn't believe my parents that they were in fact cheese and onion.

We have vinegar in the USA. In the North East at least. My fave is ketchup. Not available in the US. We are lucky to have them from time to time. They are a Canadian flavour. I always love living along the border. Lays does limited flavour competitions. Some of those are heavenly. This was such a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. My Grama loved Pringles. This was back in the late '70's - '80's. I can say Pringles today ARE NOT the same. Sadly. 💜 From Buffalo, NY 🦬 🥶❄️

I'm American, so I don't have an opinion on most of these chips/crisps. But if Walker's and Lays are the same thing, I do love most of Lays' varieties of chips. Also, I have had Pringles before. I like Pringles, but I really have to be in the mood for Pringles specially to eat them. Otherwise I will very likely choose something else. Personally I usually prefer a kettle chip, because they are so much crunchier than traditional chip/crisps. Love you girls.

So I'm the weirdo who hates hula hoops and likes pop chips. I also have a tip. The best crisps ever are a brand called Taylors. They used to be called Mackie's. The plain crisps they do are the best dipping crisp ever. They're really thick. Sometimes Lidl have them.
@everogersdownunder124216 күн бұрын
Aussie from Melbourne here. Can confirm we do not get "meal deals" here or in our supermarkets. Our supermarkets are 💩💩💩💩 We have only Aldi (that barely stocks anything) and then the 2 giants Woolworths (used to be safeway) and Coles - who are both under government investigation for their false sales and price hikes plus worker strikes, etc. Then we have an independent very, very, very small almost convenience style shops called IGA and Foodworks that are usually in regional areas and just sell your bread and milk and the odd tin of cat food, etc. This is why they charge what they like here and Aussie food is sooo expensive, as there's only really 2/3 options to get your food.
