The swordsmanship they are teaching the princes kinda emphasizes power to inflict damage. Even if Bojji could lift an actual sword and swing it, his attacks would simply feel like taps, even with a sharp sword. To the people watching it looked like he was playing with Daida, making fun of him, not facing him seriously.

At this point of the story, they haven't established the fact that Bojji has near zero physical strength yet.

@@reaperandyel Domas already implies that he absurdly weak at the end of the episode. We have already seen his father and mother in ep.1 and both are giants. It is pbvious that there is something abnormal gping on with him.

@@reaperandyel That's partially due to the fact they moved Domas's backstory which would of made it more clear. As you would see it in episode one where it's placed in the manga, it also makes it more clear why Domas seemed mad after Bojji went to see his father cause of it.

I get where you’re coming from but the thing about Bojji is that he couldn’t even inflict any damage. Even how well he can dodge and how many time he can hit someone, it’s just that he wouldn’t be able to defeat anyone. Like the scene in the end, as Domas said he couldn’t even lift a short sword which I guess a requirement to fight is at least to wield a weapon.

The thing is, the rules are not like fencing rules. In order to win the duel Boji must disarm Daida, knock him out, but Boji couldn't do that, he could only pock him. so it seemed like he was playing games in a duel because he couldn't finish the job. Daida on the other hand went ham on boji on purpose just to hurt him.

DAmmit, I still can't watch Kage's backstory without crying my heart out. Every time I see him give up his toy for an apple because he's so hungry, only for it to get smashed... I just can't not cry. It breaks my heart. 😭

This was my top anime of the season. It's so damn good and the animation suits the style perfectly. It feels like an old story book coming to life.

The battle was going by more realistic rules wherein you need to disarm or heavily injure your opponent to win not just hitting taps. While Bojji was able to dodge and strike, his strength was incapable of dealing any sort of significant damage. Even if it were a real sword fight (which can't happen since he can't even lift a short sword) he'd just be tapping him lightly. The reason the soldiers were saying it's dirty was because it seemed like he was trying with Daida by not striking hard (which he can't do) and just dodging. The reason why Domas said what he said was so his reputation would be saved.

The "this is not the swordsmanship of a king" thing has a lot to do with the structure of their society. Because countries are directly ranked by how powerful their king is, no one's going to follow a king that doesn't project strength, and Bojji's style doesn't fit that.

Probably people on Patreon already told you that, but the reason they disregard Boji fightning style is because he lacks the strenght to defeat his opponents. It doesn't matter if you hit a hundred times if you never inflict damage at all. In the last scene Boji even tries to wield a real sword, but couldn't lift it, which means in a real fight he wouldn't be able to harm an enemy, at best he would dodge to stall the fight.

I think what they're emphasizing here is that he can't protect people by running away, evading the opponents attacks without being able to stop them, that's why they say it's not swordsmanship fit for a king.

The last king's fighting style in general consisted of shows of pure raw strength, it's more likely they expect that as a base for anyone else. The late king wouldn't dodge, he would meet the sword head on. That's what I think it's the general assumption for this kingdom in specific.
