fun fact the loch ness monster is also super helpful to marine biologists because the people who believe in cryptids fund the hell out of any and all research to prove themselves right. So as a result Loch Ness is one of the most well mapped and explored freshwater areas on the planet and helped marine biologists catalogue and research tons of different species. so weirdly its a cryptid that does a public good lol.

There was a lake at my college that had an underground passage to the ocean. It was thin and the water was salty enough so what would happen is fish like snook and tarpon would swim into the lake, grow too big to escape and get stuck in there. The lake was filled with massive fish and was also home to the happiest fattest alligator you could imagine.

I'd have gone with a 5 point scale for likelihood: 1 - I would bet against it existing every time. 2 - I would bet against it existing, but be a little worried. 3 - I would be skeptical of any evidence, but would research any evidence I came across with an open-mind. 4 - If confronted with evidence, I would say, "Huh. I guess so." 5 - I'm just wating for the inevitable evidence to be found (or have a reason in mind why the evidence is unoptainable).

Just starting WaT. It's going to hurt me and I know it but I'm really happy to have it as my gift to myself for the holidays. Thank you! I have a niggling belief in any "cryptid" that is supposed to exist in very deep water, deep underground or in vast tracts of unexplored wilderness. There's always crap out there we don't know about and some of it is extremely weird. Once, the giraffe was a cryptid and so was the gorilla... soooo... yeah.

I had a dream about a week ago that I lived on Roshar and Brandon Sanderson was there (with no one commenting that he was the creator of the world) and for some reason he had decided to hold a picnic on the shattered plains, which thousands of people went to. And in the dream I was like "Cool, I wonder if he'll sign my shardblade?" and then I had to my ride my horse to the modern supermarket that definitely exists on the edge of the shattered plains because I needed to buy baguettes for the picnic.

One time I had a dream, I posted about it on Twitter, but dressed it up in a way where I was a tour guide and the reader was experiencing the dream in my place. From this, I recognized that my Twitter following doesn't actually like stories, even though my following was made up entirely of people who were critical of storytelling. How do I know they don't like stories? The post was a visual treat in text form that ended with an unexpected advertisement for the claymore sword that Home Depot sells online. The complete absence of interaction on that post had me doubt bothering with Twitter anymore beyond that point because I felt as though all my time and effort would have been completely squandered from then on because the post really was quite good and imaginative. Glad to be away from Twitter because the people there only really seem interested in negativity and drama.

I think it’s fun to talk about a belief in cryptids. But, to be serious a moment, I think we all need to take time and reflect on whether or not these cryptids believe in themselves.

I saw someone describe a werewolf as a cryptid a little while ago. I kinda feel like including werewolves would mean you have to also include vampires though. What's the category for that? Is that all supernatural as opposed to cryptid? It seems like it'd be weird to put werewolves in the same category as ghosts. Is a cryptid something that has to be scientifically plausible? the Jersey Devil kinda just sounds like a demon, and the Chupacabra is just a lizard vampire. Hmm...

I hate the Megalodon on the Cryptid list. It was a shoreline hunter, not a deep sea hunter. If it was still out there we would know, because it would be impossible to miss. If it evolved to secretly live in deep sea trenches, guess what? it wouldn't be a Megalodon.
