It always upsets me knowing so many great albums were ignored because of critics and reveiws. McCartney especially, because he was putting out some of his greatest stuff in the early 70s, Red Rose Speedway, Ram, even Mccartney 1, and because the media were so against him, they would find any way they could to destroy his reputation. If he tried to experiment the critics would call it nonsense, if he just made a solid album, the critics would say he was playing it too safe. And unfortunately there were many people who skipped them and never went back, and as successful as mccartney was he definitely could have been so much more successful, solo, if the critics did not tear him apart so early on.

I completely agree with your comments about the criticism that Paul got . Lennon was the critics. favorite one , he could do no wrong. I do miss John . But Paul was always working and making music and very underrated too .

With your comments about Pipes of Peace and Tug of War, I started to think about how I'd combine these two albums and trim out the fat to make a better single experience. I'd be curious how you or others would handle it. I trimmed out most of the songs that felt too 80s or uncharacteristically McCartney to me. And while I enjoy "What's That You're Doing" for a couple of minutes, I trimmed it out as well because it's way too long. My track listing goes: 1) Tug of War 2) Take it Away 3) The Other Me 4) So Bad 5) Get it 6) Dress Me Up as a Robber 7) The Pound is Sinking 8) Somebody Who Cares 9) Sweetest Little Show 10) Ballroom Dancing 11) Wanderlust 12) Pipes of Peace 13) Here Today

any thing done by the great paul McCartey is #1 he is simply a genius and in my opinion the greatest music artist of all time. what he did with the beatle's and the wing's. no artist will even come close to what he has achieved.

Pretty amazing that McC delivered 'Chaos & Creation' relatively late in his career. I would also have it up there with 'Ram' and 'BOTR". I cant quite agree with you Larry on 'London Town'. It's always been an album that I want to love, but don't.

My three 10/10 favourites in order are- Band on the Run (Sorry to be unoriginal and predictable but I really do think it's that good.) Venus and Mars (Massively underrated IMO due to coming right after its immediate predecessor.) Chaos and Creation... (The one that brought me fully back into the Macca fold.) I also think it's great that Ram is now getting its deserved recognition after being very unfairly derided back in the day, not least due to the highly negative Rolling Stone review which the disgrace of an editor himself demanded upon being handed a positive one.

Ram, Band on the Run and his solo debut to me are the best recordings of his solo career. Most of the other solo albums of his I've heard were really spotty in terms of solid material, at least to me.

For Me Pipes of Piece is a great pop album, Press To Play is the first album I was dissapointed when bought it and Maybe rthe only album that sucks. On top for Me is Band On the run is a work of a genious.. ..

I tend to think that some of these lists are put together by people who dont know the music, or arent fans, but who just look at other lists and do it for publicity. For me, I feel that Band on the Run is far and away his best album. If you compare it with Ram, most peoples fav thee days, I feel that Band on the Run is far more cohesive, easy on the ears of the more casual fan, and with better songwriting and production. Heres my list: 1. Band on the run 2. Chaos and creation 3. Ram 4. McCartney 5. Back to the Egg 6. venus and mars 7. London town 8. McCartney 2 9. Wings at speed of sound 10. Off the ground 11. Nice to see McCartney at #2. I only heard it for the first time when I got back into his music when Pure McCartney came out and liked it right away. Wild Life would be in my top 10. My two least favourites are McCartney II and Flowers in the Dirt. My timeline of giving up on his music was Flowers in the Dirt to Pure McCartney. I like his music but I will never be a big fan like yourself.

Fabulous list although I would put TUG OF WAR higher. It is good to see the first two solo albums get appreciated today as they were not by critics and fellow ex-Beatles. Love the cover on PRESS TO PLAY. PIPES of PEACE might be half a good album. It was supposed to be a double, but he split it up and TUG OF WAR ended up with most of the good songs.

To be perfectly honest, I thought the title track on Tug of Water was about Lennon as well. Listening to it, I kind of sounds of his regret over the disillusion of the Beatles.

Yeah. Ram number 1!!!! But New deserves the top ten! The problem with Pipes of peace is the collaboration with Michael Jackson. Without Say say say and the man il would be a good album, Tug of war is an excellent album but it's fameous for the worst song of the album: Ebony and Ivory. Flowers in the dirt is beautiful. But it had a not good producion. It's incredible to listen to the demos of the songs with Elvis Costello that you can find in the archive version, the demos are masterpieces! And it's incredible McCartney throw away a beautiful song like Back on my feet (one of the best of the collaboration)t in the bside of Once upon a long ago. But I think the collaboration with Costello was the best collaboration in the solo McCartney career. And one of the album I don't like so much is McCartney. I really don't understand why people love it.

Press To Play is a very 80's album Larry,the songs aren't bad but it suffers from a bad 80's production,Wings At The Speed Of Sound only has two or three good songs on it,Driving Rain is downright depressing and Wild Life is unfinished,Pipes Of Peace is a good song but the album not so much,Flowers In The Dirt is good but has to much Elvis influence on it,Off The Ground isn't bad but it's got a horrible album cover,Chaos And Creation is good with a great cover,Red Rose Speedway is a well produced album but a little imature,London Town is good but to keyboard dominated,Back To The Egg is not bad but the songs aren't sequenced right,Egypt Station is very good,in Paul's top five for sure,Ram,Band On The Run,Venus And Mars and Flaming Pie are great albums,New and Tug Of War are good,McCartney I,II and III are all good with McCartney I being Paul's most down home album,it's like he invited you over for a personal listen and Give My Regards To Broad Street should have never have been made,there's no need to remake already great Beatles songs,I'm guessing Paul didn't have enough good new material for the movie,if so he should have postponed the movie until he did! Bob
