The Bee Gees are criminally underrated. And, on a side note, thank you for so clearly distinguishing between “disco” and r&b or soul. I defy anyone-ANYONE, I say!-to listen to Jive Talkin’ without tapping a toe. There’s a reason that it’s called RHYTHM and blues, folks… (Yes, I’m a huge fan of Main Course.)

Thank you. I was expecting to get a bunch of opposition on the R&B vs Disco stance. Speaking of the Bee Gees being underrated, was just listening to How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and realized it was nowhere on my list. Not even the honorable mentions. THAT is what a stellar catalog of songs those guys have. (But also it should've been on my list)

I really appreciate your Bee Gee's album rankings. Thank you for showing the Brothers Gibb the love they much deserve. But, Please! Give their 1981 album Living Eyes a chance, you've absolutely got to give Robin's lead song, Don't Fall in Love With Me a listen, it's sublime! Living Eyes is the Bee Gees' most sophisticated album with almost a jazz undertone, and a true Bee Gees fan favorite, along with their 1974 masterpiece Main Course, of course. Peace, Love, and Bee Gees!

Totally agree that Mr. Natural is underrated, one of my favorites. How can a group be so successful and yet so underrated at the same time? It is so strange, but I am glad they finally got some appreciation and I think once you become a fan you are a FAN!! I love all the eras including the first Australia album.

Yes, it's so weird but fortunately I think they've mostly shed the stigma. Younger generations don't hold the Saturday Night Fever era against them because they didn't live through the saturation of it. They're more free to judge it simply for the quality of the stuff.

Interesting list, i'd have the 80s and 90s albums high on the list and the early 60s albums low on the list. This is where we came in, Still waters, Size isn't everything, and high civilization are awesome and way underrated and it amazes me how the Bee Gees albums kept up with the times.

The Bee gees were an amazing group with a lot of soul. It's sad that they were black listed because of "disco" when, in fact, they never intended it to be soundtrack music, it was just part of their evolution. The radio stations very much controlled what was played, and if they decided you were off, then you were off. I was always a fan of R & B and always a fan of the Bee Gees, right up until 2003 with the sudden death of Maurice. I continued to follow the solo careers but missed this band of brothers. Good honest review, Thanks

Really enjoyed watching you rank the Bee Gees albums up through ‘79! I’m prob about your age, but PLEASE consider listening to some of their materiel after the Spirits Having Flown album🎼!! The next album (Livin Eyes) has some beautiful songs on it…..Livin Eyes, Nothing Could be Good, I Still Love You! So please continue on their journey….& then do another ranking reaction video👍!

Thank you! I like Living Eyes and kinda like the Staying Alive soundtrack. Cut it off at Spirits because it was cleaner to just do 60s and 70s. I've listened to the later albums. To me it all just sounds like adult contemporary stuff you'd hear at Pottery Barn. Just not my bag. Only exception being This Is Where I Came In. That one seemed like they were finally about to crawl out of the Jennifer Warnes hole they dug and dropped themselves into in the mid '80s. I could do another video talking about the later records but it would just be a bunch of curmudgeonly Lester Bangs negativity.
@kimberlyneely4029

@@AsItShouldBePodcast I'm glad you are open to their later stuff. I agree there are some low points. I personally only care for one cut from E.S.P. which is the catchy You Win Again (which probably has as much to do with Barry's sexiness in the official video as anything else). Their next album One, granted, is pure 80's fun, but with the title track plus Ordinary Lives, Bodyguard and Wish You Were Here, it hits my playlist quite often. I even like Tokyo Nights every now and again! High Civilization is a great album, in my opinion. The title track, When He's Gone, Secret Love and Human Sacrifice are truly great songs. Now we come to Size Isn't Everything. This album is simply a classic. Almost every cut is amazing! Okay so you don't care for Paying the Price of Love, Omega Man, Blue Island or Heart Like Mine? How can you not like Kiss of Life? OMG, this song is fire! I find myself waking up in the morning and that song is already running in my head.... No? Fine but For Whom the Bell Tolls?? My all-time #1 best Bee Gees song ever. Robin's voice has never been more pure. It's like having a channel open to heaven itself!! I've seen some negative reactions to Still Waters in the comments. I don't get it! My goodness, what a great album! I Surrender, Alone, My Lover's Prayer..some of their best compositions! My favorite on this album has to be I Will. The ultimate love song...and the harmonies!!! Angelic! Then finally This is Where I Came In. Yes I agree it's their best "post disco" album. They have come full circle and explore several different influences here. She Keeps on Coming is so reminiscent of The Beatles, it could have been written by John and Paul in 1965! Wedding Day, Man in the Middle, Sacred Trust and Barry's playful Technicolor Dreams. It all works together so well. I play all these albums on rotation on my way to and from work. I love each of them so much and am always discovering new things each time. I love your channel. I hope you give the later Bee Gees a second look. You're really missing out on some gems! P.S. Going back to one of the albums you did list Spirits Having Flown. The hands down best track on this is Why Ain't We Living Together. Robin's solo parts in the middle are jaw-dropping. I swear I thought it was Michael Jackson the first time I heard it. It's just so perfect...orchestral arrangements with such naughty lyrics...SO FIRE!!

Robin does sing “Living Together” on “Spirits….” album. “Odessa” to me was ultimate prog rock, just something from Moody Blues, King Crimson or Yes. i love that album.. Klause Vorrman did the album cover to “Bee Gees First” close friend of the Beatles who also did the “Revolver” album cover.

Hard to believe you ranked Spirits Having Flown so low. My fave album is Main Course but Spirits Having Flown has 2 of my all time favorite BGs songs on it: Too Much Heaven & Love You Inside Out. Not to mention Reaching Out and Tragedy. I caanot understand it being so low in rank. But you have a right to your own opinion & you did give Main Course & Night Fever a good rank. BTW, your volume is so low I cannot hear you hardly on the phone!! Had to transfer you to my tv and now I can hear you. But it is not my phone or my hearing. Just thought I'd let you know. ❤

Agreed. Any album with three number ones and some other fine cuts belongs way higher. Especially since Tragedy and Too Much Heaven are two of Theo greatest tracks. Can’t really fathom Main Course, SNF or Children of the World not being at the top. But all comes down to personal opinion, I suppose. Even if some of the rankings are a little…misguided.

I thought it was going to be a comprehensive list of the Bee Gees catalog. As soon as he said he wasn't taking into consideration anything from the '80s and '90s it threw me off. They produced great music in those decades as good as the '60s and '70s and sometimes even better. I couldn't take it seriously anymore.

Being an avid Bee Gee fan from 1967 I find it very difficult to pick an absolute favourite album, but yes to BGs 1st, Idea, Odessa, Living Eyes followed by 80s & 90s albums which you haven't included here for some reason ? As I stated previously I have both their first & second Australian albums WOW $10k for the first one, I may be inclined to sell it now, Thanks.

Oh, and I excluded the later LPs simply because I really do not like that era. Had I included them I would have had them all crammed at the bottom and it would've been a whole lot of me complaining about how much I dislike them. I do actually kinda like Living Eyes but decided that if I wasn't going to do the full discography then it was cleaner to just do the 60s and 70s.

I agree to a degree with some of your placement. But being an avid Bee Gees fan since 1969, my favorite albums are different. I personally really like the later stuff. At number 1-3 would be Main Course, Still Waters , Idea. Then it would continue with Mr Natural, Living Eyes, This is Where I Came In, E.S.P. then Size isn't everything. Then horizontal, life in a tin can, to whom it may concern, here at last, best of the Bee Gees. I love most of their songs. But I'm a Robin fan. His voice is out of this world

Totally disagree regrding their albumsafter Spitits, Still waters from 1997 is possibly their best album, and is also rated that among fans. Also One form 1989 and Their last This Is Where I Came In are great albums. When you talked about Idea I really do like When The Swallow Fly, Barry is killing it here and ofcourse I Started A Joke. Also the US version included I've Gotta Get A Message To You, maybe their greatest 60's song if you do not count To Love Somebody I own the Calendar version of their first australian album, it is "only" half price of the LEEDON version.
