One of my most favourite bands...will just add that "Another Park, Another Sunday" is one of all-time favorite tunes. I really wore out everything from TOULOUSE STREET thru ONE STEP CLOSER. So, some of the lesser heard stuff is what I usually check out. "South Bay Strut" (instrumental) is a great Blindfold Test song.

Those first couple albums do nothing for me nor do the latter albums. But there are always a song or two on those post 80’s releases that clicks. For most creatives, there is a window of about 10 years when they produce their most inspired stuff. After that they tend to repeat or create lesser versions of their best material. There are a few exceptions to this but not many. Great points from Eric about Stampede’s “I Cheat The Hangman”. Such a different tune. Yes, very CSN. Love both eras of the band. I find as I get older I play those McDonald albums and prefer that sound a bit more. Vices/Habits would be my #1. Great variety and song craft. You get everything the Doobie Brothers did stylistically and some of the tracks point to the directions they were headed. I enjoyed the ranking, gents!

Hmm I don't think CSN when I listen to "Hangman" but it is a different vibe from a lot of their other tracks. Another in that 'dreamy' sort of vibe is "Flying Cloud". A track like "White Sun" (wonderful!) to me sounds more like CSN. Fave all time Doobies track = "Ukiah". "Texas Lullaby" is a really great 'deep' track. Wonderful band - easily one of the best ever US rock bands. Their first 5 albums (debut through Stampede) are great, a really great run. I don't put a lot of hate on McDonald for 'changing' the band (which he did & IMO for the worse) - there are some good tracks on Streets, Fault Line & Minute. More commercial/pop-oriented & funky. For me Takin' It to the Streets is by far the best of the McDonald-era albums. Worst Doobies studio record (again BY FAR) for me = One Step Closer...Really strong band comeback with Cycles & Brotherhood showing that there was more in the tank! I also like the most recent stuff more than many. 2019's Live From The Beacon Theatre is a really solid live album

Cool show, lads. When they were new, l heard both of the Capitol Records reunion albums - Cycles & Brotherhood - a lot at my record store gig. However, l really can’t recall working with a huge Doobie head. Occasionally, someone would put on a compilation - or greatest hits - CD. But l don’t remember ever working with a diehard fan who would play all the studio albums. Strange. I’ve ever seen the band perform live, a few times, at Jones Beach! Yet, l never explored the catalog myself. Bizarre. I wonder why? It’s not like they were bad live, just the opposite! They put on a vital and vibrant show, filled with vignettes, vim and vigor! Yet STILL, I never delved deeper into these dudes. Weird. Maybe the tag team tandem of Eric and Grant has changed my mind? Only time will tell. Cheers from The Big Apple. Rock Out, Prog On & Pogo! It’s my mantra 🕉️ and my logo. At the end of each and every video. Your clone and mine, ~ The Iconic, Moronic, Demonic Doppelgänger of Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS.

Really tough to argue with Vices, Captain, Toulouse & Stampede. Also the s/t debut is very good. Then there's the archival Still Smokin' of 1970 tracks (pre-debut). For me Takin' It to the Streets is the best of the McDonald era - the next two each have some good tracks too (but pale in comparison to the 'classic' earlier 70's stuff)...Really nice comeback albums with Cycles & Brotherhood - I also like the later stuff like Southbound, Liberte, Sibling Rivalry, World Gone Crazy...IMO One Step Closer is BY FAR their worst studio record - wonder what they were thinking that they were getting closer to?🤷♂ Live From The Beacon Theatre, Rockin’ Down The Highway: The Wildlife Concert & Farewell Tour (1983) are high-quality live albums

Sibling Rivalry was an album where the band made a concentrated effort to have as many of the member's of the band as possible get tracks where they may not have in the past. It's am OK album but I own it because I own all of their albums.
@truckerkevthepaidtourist3 ай бұрын
Nice I can rank this cuz I own them all. Some run out of gas quickly towards the bottom along with that tribute album unfortunately with a bunch of other artists collaborating. What's interesting here though as I'm actually a pretty big fan of world gone crazy at New Orleans style they were doing right after Katrina was a surprise when that album dropped it's actually really solid I'll probably be in the big minority there but oh well 1. Captain and me 2. What were once vices are now habits 3. Toulouse Street 4. Takin it to the streets 5. Stampede 6. World gone crazy 7. Self-titled 8. Minute by minute 9. Brotherhood 10. Living on a fault line 11. Cycles 12. Liberte 13. One Step Closer unfortunately it runs out of gas quickly for me 14. Southbound 15. Sibling Rivalry

Heres my top 5 for today stampede, the captain and me, tolouse street, what once were habits, are now vices and taking it to the streets honorable mentions brotherhood, cycles and minute by minute and also it may not be a band album but special mention to the excellent 1983 solo album arcade by Patrick Simmons its a supremely underrated album and it totally rocks wish he would've done more albums like that one
@DCToonTime3 ай бұрын
Agreed. That Simmons Arcade album is a winner!
@wolf19773 ай бұрын
@@DCToonTime Arcade's not bad - liked 4 tracks: "Out On The Streets", "So Wrong", "If You Want A LIttle Love", "Knocking At Your Door". I think Take Me To The Highway is about as good...Tiran Porter's Playing To An Empty House is different but also pretty good - even includes some fusion...Tom Johnston's Still Feels Good has some nuggets

For me the Doobies are 2 different bands. Without Michael McDonald was my fav because they rock more and with Michael the Doobies are more of a soul/rock band. I loved the first 5 albums and the McDonald albums are OK.
