I just started at Amazon last week doing overnight. My first night I was on Stow and the second day they made me do waterspider where I walked over 20 miles in my 9 hour shift. Im pretty fit but that day kicked my ass. Spent my next 3 days off just recovering. Hopefully they just keep me on stow going forward. Because you’re right, my day seemed to drag when I was on waterspider vs stow.
@stephentremblay146511 ай бұрын
Gaylords can suck my nuts. Being waterspider was the worst shit ever. I eventually started playing dumb, and not going to my management for my position each night. I just threw myself on building walls, I'd do that for a while. Maybe my management would come over and tell me what I was supposed to be doing. Went to that station until lunch wnd just so happen to "forget" I was water spider. Was I a shitbag to the other water spiders? Sure. But when I spent 9+ hours a night walking in circles around chutes, walking 14+ miles a night in circles... I'd rather play stupid and listen to my podcasts, loading trailors. Lol They didnt even fire me for being in the wrong place, so often. They fired me for having multiple days where I was 2-3 minutes late clocking back in for lunch (which they docked me an hours pay for, each time.)... Packages were in the right place, and got sent out right. But fuck me if I'm gonna walk in circles for almost half a day straight, with nothing but the rattling of slides and chutes, and sirens going off everywhere in the warehouse, with a single 30 minute break.

I started in pick, but also spent time in pack. I have been in ICQA this year. That is just in the FC. I worked in a sort center too. That's probably easier. I worked on the sort floor, did a little smalls sort, and sorted noncon (big stuff) and helped out on the inbound dock. Part of last year, I was a seasonal transportation associate, working in the truck yard. Not bad, but a lot of things could go wrong. I start training in ICQA Problem Solve next week. People always think picking is way easier than stowing until they try it, then they realize that it's barely any better if at all, some like yourself actually prefer stowing then on. This is the case for other positions as well, like inducting, it's not as easy as it may appear and only a few are really good at it, that's why those same few people get to induct almost everyday, so it's not just favoritism for them people like many people assume.

At the delivery station the only positions I really don't like is pushing unless it's on the first or second belt, and float stowing unless i can stay between one or two clusters. These positions are annoying because you have to deal with other peoples' lazy sloppy work directly. I don't mind unloading, inducting, water spider, or problem solve. Diverting is fun. I have no problem regular stowing my own aisles, especially if its only two aisles. I like pick to buffer especially if it's in the back. Jackpot is easy.

I work inbound stow at my Amazon facility. I haven't worked any other jobs because I kind of like solitude and there are no nasty customers to deal with. The most irritating part is the large items in the totes and the pods not showing up with enough room. If I'm up on floors 2, 3, or 4 it takes more time to go all the way downstairs for a cigarette for instance and I waste most of my break going from here to there. We only have two elevators in the entire facility and one of them is out of order.

I'm doing outbound ship dock and only difference is from the inbound ship dock is that we don't unload the truck though. During outbound ship dock, we scan the packages put in cages and etc and at times we load the truck but or they have the loaders do that. The reason I dislike stow is I always get shitty totes full of big items and the pods are always full so my time sometimes is shitty. Always waiting for the right pod to show up so I can get rid of the big items. It’s all luck too sometimes you get a good tote full of small items that helps your takt time. My fav position so far is Outbound Water Spider since it’s less stressful in my opinion. I would hate inbound water spider though.
@dillon23332 жыл бұрын
Gotta start your shifts stowing a tote of small items, really fast. Get your tak time down, then you can just cruise the rest of the shift. Always keep a tote of small items, so you don’t need to do a no stow. If you keeps a couple totes of small items. The system will Generally bring you every size pod through out your shift.

I love stow, but they seem to never give you the large pods to stow into and I often get mostly large totes. tricking “stow-er’s to cross-train” which is a tool used against them later to force them to work in a different area than they have been working in since they were employed. I trained for 2 days in decant, while working in stow for several weeks. I had the indication that you would be able to work there if you wanted to, but now, they have tried to send me to work there weekly. Quoiting that my Amazon contract says that I have to work where they tell me to work, but that was not revealed when they cross-trained me. Other stow-er’s have been asked to cross-train and most of them refuse. I am punished because I cross-trained. Most of the decant employees quit their job, and left decant under staffed, they try to steal away stows people as they bring in new stow employees to take their place. I never said that I wanted to mow to decant, and they are pushing me down there. Many people I know hate water spider. Mostly everyone I know hates decant the most.

Don't put flat items lying down. That causes amnesty, which we hate. We want to avoid stuff coming out of the bins. Pickers and counters have to clean up bins if they are messy when we process them. That is probably the worst part about it, other than the ladder work. We have to worry about amnesty last touch fouls and not let stuff fall out of the bins. So, we count on stowers to put stuff up as neatly as possible. Books and CDs vertical with spine facing out, like on a bookshelf when at all possible. It is also a pain for us when small things are behind or underneath larger items, making them hard to find. It kills our time. A big problem with pick or count is finding items that are hidden.

I like packing and single smalls which is only bagging. Afe is not to bad the only bad thing you are basically packing side by side to someone which is annoying and the table is small so if you have like 30 items you have no space for your big ass box

Amazon does have some bad positions, I've worked 8 different ones, and plan on learning more, but I would say by far the two worst ones are anything that has to do with container building at a sort center, or pack...pack sucks because your rate can drop very easy, and they don't really ride you about it because your job depends on who is on the other side of the wall, and if they are short of the other side you might not get work for long bits of time, but I like to have a high rate no matter what I'm doing, so that and the glue strips 👎👎👎

Can you pick up extra shifts Back to Back, lets just say a shift comes up from 330-6pm and the same day a shift comes up 630pm -1030pm. will they accept 2 shifts in one day? Not your regular day of work.

As long as it doesn’t go over the 6 shift per week limit I’m pretty sure that is fine!

Do you choose which position you want to do when you first get the job? Or do they just put you wherever they need people?
@Jayjeezy962 жыл бұрын
they put u where they need u at the time your hired on
@C112 жыл бұрын
They already know what you’re going to be on your first day, so you won’t get to choose. The time shift you chose will determine what position you are though. For example, if there was 2 options (7 AM & 7:30 AM) and you got 7:00 AM, you will most likely be doing stow. 7:30 AM would usually be something outbound like pack, pick, count, etc.,
@dillon23332 жыл бұрын
It depends on the facility. I think they just came out with a new hire program to help retention rates. I applied for stower and that’s the position I will have for 45 days and at 45 days I can transfer to learn something else or just stay at stow.

The easiest department in amazon is the learning department. Repeating the same instruction over & over again from the instructions on a tablet. The most annoying part is that the new employees act like high school freshmen. Please help me … I am lost … please help me. THE WORST JOB IN AMAZON IS THE AFM & TOTE RUNNER. Physically taxing since you are running around like a waiter all day long trying to please everyone. THEY DONT ALLOW YOU TO LISTEN TO ANY MUSIC (NO EARPODS ALLOWED). WILL RESULT IN INSTANT WRITE UPS & TERMINATION.

The job position "Count", what department is that, does it involve lifting boxes or pushing carts? In those robot-shelves do you ever stow fragile items such as camera lenses? What do you think of the tasks of Packer? Is it physically less straining since it involves less bending or squatting? If there are no orders to pack is TOT at risk for the Packer?
@DgDynasty3 жыл бұрын
Ive been doing count for a little over a week now. Its pretty chill and boring but thats fine. We Stand infront of a pod station and just scan pod bins, enter the number into our scan gun and move onto the next bin or pod. I only work up a heartrate because of the mask on my face. I also have a beanie on with my headphones hidden under it. So my days are pretty great

@@DgDynasty Associates say that it is ok to choose to stay in a position if a manager approaches and asks to switch to another. Would you request to stay in that position?

@@totoroutes5389 i will request to stay in count. I work two jobs so having Amazon being as easy as possible is best for me.
@C113 жыл бұрын
Hi! To answer some of the unanswered portions of the comment, yes we stow fragile items occasionally. I would assume packing definitely is less straining, and I don’t think there is ever slow periods for pack but I could be wrong. If there was slow periods with no orders, I am sure they could just tell their manager there was no orders so TOT won’t be effected, although the manager would likely know when it is slow.
