FYI, coffee grounds *can* be cleaned out of the back of a coffee machine if you have the tools. It's usually just a screwdriver. And if somebody poured brewed coffee in the back, all you should need to do is run it through a cycle with half vinegar and half water.

As someone who adores coffee, the gadgets are fun, but I think the main reason for the near constant stream of new brewing gadgets is that the final brewed product can differ insanely depending on how you brew it, where the beans are grown, how they're processed, how dark the roast is, in just this fractal nightmare of variating factors that you kinda have to experiment a bit with to find what to you is The Perfect Cup of coffee xD It took a couple years of trying a whole bunch of shit till I finally found that my coffee happy place is usually some medium roasted specialty bean from Yemen, ideally with fruity notes, brewed with an aeropress. But if I brewed those same beans in that cold brew funnel that the grumps also showed off, they'd probably taste and feel wildly different! I dunno, it's just a lot of fun going through the process of learning what you're doing and what you like and don't like.

6:17 to answer that question, the reason cold brew seems clearer than other coffees is because compounds called tannins don't dissolve as easily in cold water as they do in hot. Tannins are responsible for both the characteristic bitterness of coffee and the darker, murkier appearance of hot brewed coffee; less tannins means a lighter, less bitter coffee.

I wanna tell James Hoffmann, popular KZbinrs The Game Grumps did a coffee brewing video. And they liked the cold-brewed more than the Aeropress lol (To be clear, the aeropress is popular because it has a community of people trying to get the best coffee out of it with different techniques/recipes. So it makes sense it wasn't that good for a first time try. I've never used an aeropress before but it's essentially a device that 'can' make great coffee if you learn to dial it in, and its really cheap compared to other similarly capable options. So it's held high as a sort of accessible coffee enthusiast device. Because the coffee-enthusiast world doesn't want people to think they need to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy making coffee).
