Lol as an Artpop lover myself, I think you’re exaggerating a bit. Artpop was more so a trend following album sonically, really cranking in its EDM sounds. While I love Artpop, it really wasn’t that dissimilar from what was popular at the time. Is it better and more artistic than the mainstream EDM that was popular at the time? Undeniably so! But unfortunately did not reshape pop music like people claim it did.

i know damn well that future nostalgia, folklore and sour will be endlessly relevant for the next coming years future nostalgia is THE MOMENT there’s just no reason to try not to deny that. it also started the disco pop revival we’ve been seeing in pop music folklore has literally never been done before. i think we were all shocked to hear an album like this from her coming off of lover. this album put Taylor back in the good books for me after the crayola pride my little pony shite she put us through during lover. i think folklore defined the “quarantine album” semi-genre although i don’t love it, sour has undoubtedly changed the pop music space in the past 2 years. olivia is the britney of gen z in a way that the copycats start to become some of the only other relevant girlies in the music industry. obviously britney was so different, and olivia will never be the next britney, but the teens have reacted to olivia and the copycats in the same way that teens did to britney. pretty much every song you hear on tiktok was inspired by olivia somehow

I think Imagine off of "Thank You Next" is a great song worth revisiting. It's still a stand out in her discography for me. It's a reimaging of the John Lennons iconic song of the same name. In John Lennons Imagine he askes everybody to imagine a world where peace exists without war or hunger... In Ariana Grandes version she askes her partner Mac Miller (who died of an over does back in 2018 and had an imagine tattoo on his arm) to imagine a world in which they live a peaceful life together; ordering take away food and enjoying simple pleasures of life like bubble baths and sleeping in. It's a heart breaking but hopeful song that got to the root of what John Lennon's original song was getting at... which is that world peace is individual peace.

One thing I would change would be to put Ultraviolence in endlessly relevant, because its still such a superb example of a conversation starter in the area of feminism, its used as a signpost to measure where 'the culture' was and where it has gone over the past decade (especially considering how long it has taken for some of the initial backlash to yield to a more understanding acceptance and acknowledgement of the sorts of experiences that inspire an album like Ultraviolence). Even if its not looked on favorably by some, you can't deny that's it's certainly still talked about at length. Also, the kind of alternative/rock influence it had is very enduring which is uncommon in a lot of pop music that's very bubblegum and synthetic.

I absolutely loved this video! So so interesting, and as always, they way you analyse and talk is so engaging. I pretty much more or less agree with all of your choices, I think the only one I would hard disagree on is the Kesha album. I understand why you put it in ageing like milk, since we definitely do not listen to that style of music anymore, and have not for a while, but in my opinion it is kind of like Rihanna's "anti." Outdated but SO SO iconic. Like everyone knew Kesha and TikTok, and whilst no one actively makes music like that anymore, whenever it comes on in a club, everyone goes crazy for it. I think that's why I would put that one in an iconic moment.

I completely agree with all of your rankings - the one I slightly disagree with is 'Teenage Dream,' however, I do think '1989' is more relevant than 'Teenage Dream', and it would have been strange to put both of them in the same tier. Ranking the selling pop girl albums of the 2020s so far - some of these albums have not yet sold 2 million copies in the US yet, however, I kind of guessed which ones would get there by the end of the decade. Endlessly Relevant: Future Nostalgia (an excellent and cohesive record that brought back pure-pop!), folklore (when you think of lockdown... I know you think of folklore) Iconic Moment: Rare (Selena's performance at the AMAs will always be iconic), Chromatica (Rain on Me was iconic), Plastic Hearts (I think Miley really suited the rock genre), evermore (it just fit into this tier), Good News (the Savage Remix is iconic), Fearless (Taylor's Version) (the first of the re-recordings and will always be remembered for setting the precedent of what to expect for a re-recording), sour (drivers license, deja vu, good 4 u, and brutal are iconic! Olivia set a lot of records during this era and she ruled the charts in 2021!), Planet Her (Kiss Me More is an excellent pop-song, and Planet Her is a rare example of a long-term successful era in the streaming age), Happier Than Ever (the tonal shift of the title track alone), Red (Taylor's Version) (ATW10MV was everywhere, the drama over IKYWT and WANGBT being botched - it was iconic!), Renaissance (an amazing album - and brought house music back to the manstream, however, I cannot really see it being replicated but I guess we will see with Renaissance Act 2 & 3), Midnights (not good enough to be in the Endlessly Relevant tier sorry... but Taylor occupying the entirety of the top 10 will always be remembered), SOS (I love SOS and it deserves to be in Endlessly Relevant, however, I think we need a few more years to see its impact on the music being created), Endless Summer Vacation (the album kind of tanked but Flowers was an iconic moment and it was everywhere! The Bruno Mars sample really drummed up interest in the song, however, this interest did not spill over into the album lol...) Kind of nothing: Maniac (I think this album will eventually go into the Ageing like milk category because it is not ageing well), Special (I love Lizzo but the only recognisable song on the album is About Damn Time), 30 (there is a reason why it is Adele's shortest charting album - EOM was like the only good song on the album, and it is a rip-off version of 'Hello.') Ageing like milk: Positions (the production is already very outdated, and it was just not a very well thought out project... sorry, the title track and POV are good songs, however, 34+35 was embarrassing) Scooter Braun: N/A

I listened to Demi a bit and I didn’t start wanting to listen to TS until the end of the decade. The others I only listened to the hits except for Lana and Melanie Martinez. They’re not my taste so I never listened to them. But here’s my top tier albums by my favorites. I think Revival should went to Endlessy Relevent as the album eventually inspired Glory (Britney Spears). It also inspired a Brazilian singer called Manu Gavassi, I think you definitely don't know her, but Revival inspired her third studio album. We see this in the similarity of the covers as well. Other than that commercially it was a very lucrative era and made Selena impeach hits that will probably be known by different people for a long time like: Hands to Myself, Good For You, Same Old Love, Kill 'Em With Kidness. Demi’s HOLY FVCK wasn’t like a commercial or charts success, but that album is amazing and my favorite she’s done. But I know that’s not the 10s decade, just wanted to say that. Also, I really really enjoyed this video! I mostly agree with your rankings honestly. I would agree on most of the albums that were in the bottom two tiers. I just don’t revisit them anymore. I do still have a lot of love for Avril and Kesha though!
