Happy We’re returning to Zelda. Ocarina Of Time has some of the most iconic bosses of all time. Even if I do think a lot of them are undercooked as actual fights.

In regards to the bit at 11:09, I noticed I struggled with this issue during the Twinrova boss a lot too until I realized that the trick is to actually NOT Z-target when you’re reflecting their beam attacks during the first phase. You can’t change the angle that Link holds his shield at while you’re locking on to something, but when you’re not locked on you can do that, so as long as you’ve gotten yourself in the right position you should have an easier time actually aiming the attacks you need to redirect onto the right witch.

Phantom Ganon does not fake you out by 'turning back and appearing in another painting. There's a fake Phantom Ganon throughout the entire first phase. If the Phantom Ganon you're aiming at turns back, you were aiming at the wrong one. The fake is darker colored than the real one. Phantom Ganon also has an attack that not many people see or talk about. I think it only uses it if it's one hit of the Master Sword away from being beaten. It's telegraphed by some fireworks-looking burst of magic, and then Phantom Ganon charges at you with its staff while a trail of sparks like the initial burst follows behind. It's slow and travels in a straight line so it's easily dodged, but notable in that it does 3 hearts of damage if you get hit by it. That's the most damage anything does until the Iron Knuckles. Even Bongo Bongo's strongest attack, its full-on ram it does when its eye is only, only matches that amount of damage, not surpassing it.

Morpha's nucleus will absolutely attack you if you stay submerged in its body. I don't know why you would though, considering you can't use the sword underwater and even if Morpha grabs you and flails you around, you'll never wind up in Morpha's body when it lets you go unless you die in its grip. Also, Morpha's mid-battle change to its tactics is to start using a second tentacle. As for Dark Link being the boss of the Water Temple, for one thing it wouldn't fit the narrative reason why Link is told to go into the Water Temple. For another, Dark Link in Ocarina of Time was created by Morpha. The mini-boss room itself as it appears before you beat Dark Link is a mirage created by Morpha manipulating the water in the room so it refracts light to create illusions. Considering Dark Link seems to disappear into the water when hit and then reappear behind you, and considering the cutscene that kicks off the Morpha boss fight, I think if it were possible to see the mini-boss fight without the mirage it'd just be a series of water tentacles that collapse when cut, with the next in sequence always forming behind Link.

If you freeze one of Bongo Bongo's hands with an Ice Arrow, it makes the other into a fist to try to break the ice. Said hand is as invulnerable to being stunned at that point as either of the hands are when Bongo Bongo makes them into fists to throw punches. The reason Ice Arrows are considered a 'secret' way to beat Bongo Bongo is because while it's trying to break its frozen hand out of the ice, its eye is open. In other words, at the cost of a little bit of additional magic you only have to incapacitate one hand to be able to make the boss vulnerable. It'd work a lot better if you were able to equip multiple arrow types simultaneously. It's bad enough you have to turn off the Lens of Truth to do it, but you also have to switch back to the standard arrows and turn the Lens of Truth back on to get a good shot. Considering the devs went out of their way to program that use of the Ice Arrow into the Bongo Bongo fight, I'm surprised the ability to equip multiple arrow types simultaneously wasn't seen until the 3DS remake of Majora's Mask. One would think they'd have included it in the original design of Majora's Mask, considering that following this intentional programming seen in Bongo Bongo, the lead up to the Great Bay Temple Boss Key in Majora's Mask had you use a couple of Ice Arrows followed by a Fire Arrow, after which you have to use Ice Arrows in combat immediately after. That's a lot of menuing for such a short amount of time.

I know that this will probably get buried in the pile, but I just wanted to say thank you so, SO much for all the awesome content you make to share with us, and for being such a beacon of relentless positivity. You’re one of a select few channels that I would happily watch and recommend, regardless of the type of content you produced, simply because of the positive vibes that you put out into the world. The fact that you take the time to make all these awesome videos, and the rate at which you put them out, is downright *inspirational*. And I don’t know if I can think of a more sincere compliment than that. All the best, congratulations on 20k, and keep ‘em coming! -NB Oh, and for my part, I 100% agree with you about Phantom Ganon's badass design. I remember flipping out the first time I saw the character art in my Prima strategy guide that I got for Christmas lol

Gotta say, I'm totally with you on Ganondorf. Looking at any other depiction of this this fight (in any manga, the spaceworld 2000 demo, etc), it's clear that they really wanted Link and Ganondorf to have a sword fight, which, combined with his magical attacks, really could have made for a super iconic and awesome battle. But as is? Ehhh.... Ganondorf is my all time favorite villain so I'm really thankful other depictions have given battles that feel much more in line with the character we know him to be, ESPECIALLY Totk!

It's honestly hard for me to rank anything in a Zelda game but if I did, it would definitely be similar to this. I would personally put Ganondorf/Ganon higher, probably just because of nostalgia and my recent re-experiencing of the fight but still, Ganon is my absolute favorite villain in video games as a whole and he's honestly my #1

Morpha's nucleus will ram into you if you screw around for too long, but compared to getting nabbed by the tentacles, it's much more forgiving.

Volvagia's fight has quite a bit more nuance to it than you described. First off, did you know the sides of the platform you fight it on have the properties of a climbing wall? This plays pretty largely into the nuance I'm talking about. Before that though, during what I call its 'vulnerable phase' (the whac-a-mole thing), it will fake you out up to three times before popping its head up. The amount of times it fakes you out is dependent on how much damage it's taken. If I recall correctly, if it fakes you out three times, the next hit will defeat it. Next, during what I call 'flying phase A' (where it flies around, tries to breathe fire on you, and circles you a few times trying to slash you with its claws, you can shoot it in the head with the bow. This not only makes it abort this phase, it also does damage. The world record strat for the Volvagia time attack fight in Ocarina of Time 3D is to attack it with a jump attack after stunning it during its first 'vulnerable phase', and then shoot it enough during its first 'flying phase A' that attacking it with a jump attack during its second 'vulnerable phase' ends the fight. Now I get to where the 'climbing wall' properties of the platform's sides comes into play. Still talking about 'flying phase A', if at any time during 'flying phase A' you run Link off the edge of the platform so he grabs and starts clambering along the side, Volvagia immediately loses sight of Link and aborts 'flying phase A'. That's not the extent of this property's usefulness though. During what I call 'flying phase B' (where it goes up to the ceiling and starts dropping debris), clambering on the side of the platform keeps you well out of range of the debris, and since it follows Volvagia and thus gets centered on the hole it dives into toward the end of 'flying phase B', you can climb back up well in time to prepare for its next 'vulnerable phase'.

I had the exact same thoughts on Ganondorf as a kid, he's meant to be more powerful than Phantom Ganon but he's kinda easier?? As for Ganon, while its not a complex fight, I really enjoy it cause of the variety of ways you can go about it. Most bosses require you to stun them with a specific item then hit them, there's little room for variation. With Ganon, the only thing you have to do is hit the tail, which can be done by stunning with light arrows, shooting a regular arrow which makes him pause for a short bit, great if you want tighter timeframes, lure him to the debris to slow him down, roll between his legs (my friend and I were blown away when we realised you could do that, we figured it would be a solid mesh) or in my most recent play through, bait his horizontal swing, then madly sidehop around him when he does his vertical swing. It requires you to get close, timing for his swing, and you gotta be quick lest he turn around. It honestly makes the fight so much more frantic and fun. As for his damage, believe it or not, Ganon actually deals four hearts worth of damage, the highest output in the game. Its just that a lot of players would have the double health upgrade and a lot of hearts. But if you play the game straight and barely collect heart pieces, you will only have about 12 or so hearts, meaning he can put you down in three hits, one if you're doing a three heart run. I do wish he had a bit more attacks though, a fire breath like you suggested or maybe an earthquake stomp when you're close or something, just to vary it up

Barinade cannot be damaged until all 10 Bari protecting it are destroyed. For the first set of five, after you stun Barinade you can attack its body, but each hit destroys a Bari rather than damaging Barinade. For the second set Barinade burrows into Jabu-Jabu's tissue when stunned, but the Bari are so close together that a single, well-placed Deku Nut can destroy all five of them at once.

Bongo Bongo is in my top 5 too, and the lore insinuating that this could very well be the same person who created the lens of truth makes it that much more interesting of an encounter to me. It also adds to how unsettling the land of Hyrule truly can be, coupled with the instruments of torture, and death in the Shadow Temple itself.

Had no idea about that aspect of the lore, but that makes the fight even better. That you're defeating this creature via it's own creation, poetic justice.

I can't even imagine what it was like being a kid/teen when this game came out. For perspective, I was barely a year old at the time. Didn't get around to playing it until I was in my early teens, via emulators. Still holds up to this day as a gold standard, especially when you think about Mario 64 coming out a few years prior and not nearly being as expansive.

Gohma in Ocarina of Time is not called Queen Gohma in any objective fashion. She's only called queen by the Deku Scrubs inside the Deku Tree. In other words, she's the queen of the monsters inside the Deku Tree, which Ganondorf made her domain.
