Ranking The Coasters at Six Flags Great America I Rode

Six Flags Great America is a huge amusement park located in Gurnee, Illinois that is home to 15 roller coasters. Because of the sheer number of coasters, and also the sheer number of people that pile into this park every single day, it can sometimes be hard to get all the credits, as I found out very quickly. In total, I was able to get on 7 coasters during my day, but luckily they were mostly the best coasters in the park, so here I am to bring you my top 7 coasters at Six Flags Great America.

This is my home park. The park has a good lineup. None of the stuff is amazing but they sure have something for everyone. I think the top 2 in Goliath and Raging Bull are underated. Goliath for sure. It may be a low tear RMC but as short as it's layout is, it packs a good punch. Also Viper is really underated too.

I severely hated my friend for dragging me on raging bull at first. It was an hour and 45 minute wait because it broke down when we were halfway through the line. I was freaking out the whole time. Now, I’m constantly thanking her for taking me on there because it’s one of my favorite rides :D

I just went on Maxx Force today and even though its short, that acceleration is so worth it!!!!! I ride motorcycles that can do 0-60 in sub 3 seconds and they feel slow compared to this ride. 80 in under 2 seconds like what?! Absolutely insane

I agree with what you said on X Flight. I’ve ridden it a ton, and it’s a super fun ride, but when you’re sitting at the brakes waiting for the next train to depart, the restraints just seem to be crushing your chest

My wife and I rode in the front of the viper, after the ride, my wife will never ride it again. she said it was the roughest ride she had ever had at a coaster at SFGM. Our favorite ride is Goliath followed by Raging Bull.

Definitely check the restraints on X-flight. When i went on it my only time, my restraints didn't lock and the employees didn't check it. They then released the tram and i had to hold the vest down to stay in the vehicle

As someone who has ridden Viper in 2017, 2018, and 2019 I can say it has progressively gotten rougher and the forces have felt weaker each time. 2017 and 2018 it was rougher than I'd like but not enough to really negatively impact the ride, and it was decently forceful; 2019 had it get rough enough to actually start negatively impacting the ride and the airtime just wasn't as strong. Although tbf in 2019 the airtime on all the rides just didn't feel as strong for me as it had in the previous 2 years. Which has led to some really weird rankings where from my 2019 experience X-Flight, Batman, and Maxx Force (in some order) are probably my top 3 instead of having Goliath and Raging Bull on there like I would've the previous 2 years. Also American Eagle was horrendously rough... in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 they fixed it for most of the ride.

Home Park. got season passes. pretty damn cool. the only thing you shoulda ridden imo was Demon. its got some insane feeling to it when you go through the loops, because the first ones are just regular loops but it startes going like a Torpedo, if ya get what im trying to convey. Its rough as hell and'll give you a headache but its pretty damn cool nonetheless.

The only other great one you missed out on was definitely V2. I've never really considered Superman to be worth the long wait times it almost always has but that pretzel does clear out my sinuses which is a nice bonus. I find myself going back and fourth between whether I enjoy the eagle more or the viper. They used to turn the trains around and run the eagle backwards for fright fest which was super fun. I don't always remember X flight being such a rough ride in the beginning but I did start to notice that years after it opened. That hang time still blows me away when it's been awhile since I last rode though. Your raging bull assessment was spot on, nice smooth ride with awesome airtime and increasing intensity as it progresses. Goliath is amazing. They fit so much intensity into so little time I can still barely process all that happens to this day despite this being my home park. Cant wait to experience maxx force!

Just as an FYI, the Batman at SF Great America is the original, before it was cloned. It was also the first of its type, I also lived next door to the park and worked there in my teens for four years. So the experience for Batman is a little different then all the others, as it was designed to swoop through the trees and give you that Batman zipline feeling.

This is a good video, and I hope you’re able to come back and ride all of the rides. I always point this out to people, that Six Flags great America doesn’t have a Batman clone, we have the Batman prototype. Every other Batman B&M invert is a clone of the ride that exists in our park, I’ve been on a lot of the other clothes, they don’t slap the same way. I make it a point to get on all of the clones just so that I could compare the experience to hours and I can definitely say that there are differences between all of them. Very subtle differences, but I’ve always felt like a prototype is a bit more intense than the rest of them

Dude, your review of superman was SO SPOT ON. That loop is literally it's only good feature. I waited 5 hours to ride it on opening day, and usually, I'd consider the wait for a new ride well worth it, however, Superman was the exception to that rule. It was quite disappointing. Max force is too short. Yes, I agree with the high points and it is thrilling for those couple of seconds , but it is over in a heart beat. Raging bull is my favorite ride in the park hands down. When I prioritize, it raging bull, viper, giant drop (short line usually), American eagle, and then Goliath. Max force will come into play only if my daughter is bugging about it or we’ve already ridden the other rides (raging bull at least 3x) a handful of time. Then I might get on the max force…. Maybe. It’s better than the batman. I’ll give it that.

Why is Airtime Thrills "Staple man"? Also: When you say you rode 2nd to back on Viper, I'm assuming you're referring to row and not car. The ride's airtime is different depending on which car the guest is riding in, not the row. The amount of airtime is identical in every row within the same car of any train (Although 1: I'm sure you already know that and 2: I'm aware that some people may quibble about wheel seats) Also: I also prefer vest restraints on coasters like Maverick and Gatekeeper, but not on Valravn since the drops are preceded by a full stop. I know this because the only B&M dive coasters I've ridden are Valravn and Oblivion, and I can honestly say that the drop on Oblivion was better, even though I found the coaster overall to be inferior to Valravn, since Valravn has a much more complete layout. But for me: B&M Dive coasters are the only type of coaster where I'd prefer OTSRs to vest restraints. It's a shame the B&M wing coaster didn't take off; it's my favourite B&M type I've ridden (since I've never ridden a B&M hyper yet) I've only ridden Gatekeeper and Swarm. Swarm is easily most forceful on the right side but Gatekeeper is even in the sense that it's great on both sides. On both: I prefer the back row. Swarm: back row right; Gatekeeper: back row left and right. I'd like to ride X flight; I'm sure I'd think it'd be one of the top 5 coasters at SFGA Illinois. As for Goliath: I don't see how people could call it rough, but most importantly: people's biggest quibble with Goliath is that the duration is much too short for a coaster with the biggest drop of any wooden coaster in the in the world, and the biggest speed on any wooden coaster without the aid of a launch. Maxx Force changed the park Goliath is no longer considered to be the best coaster there, even by enthusiasts. Thanks for this countdown!

@@CoasterRoaster I know. I used to live nearby and worked at Great America while I was in HS. I was just being a smartass. Good breakdown of the coasters. The vast majority are new since I last was there. BTW, that last bit of the Eagle has always been super rough like that, even when the track was relatively new. I think it was done on purpose so that you get rattled around even on the cool down into the station. That's one of my favorite coasters anywhere. When they are running the trains side by side it is so much fun. I can't believe they had only one side going that day.

I miss Iron Wolf a standup it was definitely a top 5 at the park for me till it got removed. The only other standup available is Green Lantern in California and it’s ranked highly by Airtime Thrills. Mehh, I’m not a huge fan. It’s my home park now . Maybe I’m spoiled caused I lived 30 minutes away from Kings island. Cedar parks are just better run.

Sorry Maxx Force is awful. It is too short. Every time I try to ride Maxx Force it is not running. When I do get on it the wait time is 90 minutes. Goliath is the best ride at Great America.
