Ranking the Dalek cameos of New Who

I do feel like the Wedding of River Song cameo was basically to satisfy Dalek fans because the Silence arc was more important to Moffat and he didn't want to waste an episode on them. I can't remember who brought this up, but I remember someone discussing the problem with the Moffat-era Daleks. The encounter with the Dalek in Wedding of River Song was a notable example of how post Victory, the Doctor stops being afraid of the Daleks as Nine and Ten previously were, who showed fear mixed with anger and resentment whenever confronted with the Daleks. Because part of what sells the Daleks as a threat is how they alone undermine the Doctor's composure, they bring his anger to the surface like nothing else can.

On the Series 6 cameo, it seemed to me that it was meant to show the Doctor's fear factor as opposed to the Daleks'. In the words of the Doctor himself, he'd gotten too big, his image cast a shadow so long it eclipsed even the universe's biggest horrors. That was this cameo's point. It may not be a stellar moment for the pepperpots themselves, but thematically it was perfect.

That makes sense, but I think it could still have been implemented in a way that didn't devalue the Daleks' fear factor in order to inflate the Doctor's

@@dalekbumps Touché. On a meta level it can also be taken as a potshot at the Paradigm design in general because of the backlash. We all know that Steven Moffat was hilariously self-aware. It was part of his charm, I think. But I do get your point. On a side note, what would you have suggested for the Series 6 cameo?

@@yehiahuzayyin7972 I think the Paradigm Daleks could have benefitted from an appearance in Series 6, even if it was just a cameo. Ideally, Series 6 would have featured an entire episode dedicated to the Paradigm, but the negative reception to their initial appearance destroyed any chance of them being used properly as the main villains of an episode

@@dalekbumps It's a shame about their reception, I quite liked them as higher-ranking Daleks. Bigger doesn't always mean better, but it does mean prouder. The Paradigm could've been used to highlight the Daleks' monumental ego.

With the dalek that spared Adelaide Brook, I assume it's a "I know we're going to wipe out everything, but I don't want to f*** everything up by causing a paradox now in case I end up ruining the whole plan." kind of situation. Imagine if the dalek killed Adelaide, but then ended up attracting the Reapers!

The Daleks we see at the end of series 4 are from the future because the time war happened relative to that moment in the future of the timeline. Therefore if they kill Adelaide it's possible they could change events in the time war and create a paradox which leads to either them not being able to escape the time lock of the time war, or to them potentially losing the time war outright instead of both them and the time lords losing. The entire Dalek armada could've been erased from reality with the death of 1 human and the reality bomb never detonated.

The doctor could’ve very well done that when he saved her he thought he could get clever he could very well cause a very terrible time rupture it’s actually one of my favorite moments of the doctor because it’s so dark

Regarding the cameo in Waters of Mars, funnily enough I posted my own video today on why it actually didn't kill her, believing that the window is actually mirrored glass and it was simply admiring itself in the window hehe. Still, a beautiful cameo and a lot better rendered then the one featured in Flux

It makes every moment in time happen at once and everything goes nuts. the reason the dalek couldnt kill her in that moment was that despite the current circumstances, it would have created a fixed point paradox. The reality bomb is technically a massive paradox in itself, it destroys all reality while they shield themselves outside of time. In my mind, the reason the dalek doesnt kill her is because it would have messed up their plan in that moment.

I would like to have seen more of the set for the Dalek Ship used in Series 6, as it seemed to have similarities to designs seen on Skaro in the Adventure Games, but you don't see much of it, so I wish I could have seen more, and maybe without parts being broken and on fire.

I believe the Dalek that spared Adelaide in Waters Of Mars was Rusty from Into The Dalek, since he talked about watching a star being born and gradually obtained some form of empathy for life on certain aspects that could have been why he spared her because she wasn't a threat to him.

I was very disappointed by the dalek cameo in wedding of river song, and I know what you mean about the voice sounding more cyberman like, my guess was due to the damaged to it's casing. I remember someone making a fanmade short with lego figures , were the damaged paradigm dalek supreme actually helps the Doctor get more info on the Silence. Though there were a few crude jokes and the dalek voice wasn't done with a ring modulator filter, it would have been good if something like that short had happened in the actual story

In terms of the Dalek's voice in The Wedding of River Song, it was damaged so maybe its speech centre was too. I disagree about The Pilot. While demonstrating their newfound power over the Movellans was neat, it did get undercut by having a Dalek get completely pwned and absorbed by the Heather Creature.

What about the three Daleks seen in The Pandorica Opens? I'd argue their inclusion was just as much a cameo, even though one of them is later turned to stone and used in the next episode.

I suppose thats true, but going off the same logic the Dalek appearance in Army of Ghosts is a cameo, but in reality its just setup for the second part of a two-parter that involves the Daleks in a way that goes beyond a simple cameo

The Daleks created from the Progenitor look like Time War Daleks but are more like early Daleks with modern Dalek technology.

Good video but I'm a bit annoyed that you didn't include: The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang Day of the Doctor Time of the Doctor and Power of the Doctor. these stories feature the Daleks a bit more prominently, but they aren't Dalek stories as the episodes don't really revolve around them. And since there's only three of them, might as well have thrown classic who into the mix.

I consider The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang to be a Dalek story, as they're the primary villains by far and the Stone Dalek is the undisputed main antagonist of part two I'll do a separate video on the 'of the Doctor' Dalek appearances and classic who cameos
