Personally, I like my Gillicks....understated elegance and usually in very good condition!! That 1961 is proving a bit elusive and the only one I am missing in the 1957 to 1968 run.

Don't know how you come up with all your video ideas on sovereigns. also love your comments on the old vs new sovs, always makes me smile. couldn't agree more regards getting condition over dates unless it comes at a low bullion price. PS does each successive design face the opposite way

Regarding 2;37, that coppery hue on recently minted 22 karat gold sovereigns is due to the 8.3% copper that is alloyed with 91.7% gold. South African Gold Kruggerand coins have the same alloy and color. However over time with exposure to the air, 22 karat gold cons should tone into a more overall golden color with a less apparent coppery hue.

Hi. In my personal opinion, the most beautiful portrait is the Veiled Queen Victoria's. About the other portraits, I suppose you didn't mention King George VI's because the Sovereign with his portrait is rare ( I cannot figure out why he did not continue issuing the sovereigns every year, taking out the WW2 years); but I wonder why did you miss to show also Queen Elizabeth's portrait of the 90's, which I consider the most beautiful of her coin portraits. Thank you for the replies you may grant, and thank you for your video!

This video is awesome mate, really informative for someone like me who’s new to gold. With my budget I’m looking at 1/4oz coins so Sovereigns, I’m looking at newer sovereigns, Currently the 1/4oz Britannia premium is around the 8-9% mark so that’s why I’m going with sovereigns, can I ask, what would you say is currently a good premium for sovereigns? I was thinking around 3-5% but I wanted to get your input. Thank you, Steve

I don't think the modern alloy is the issue with the colour. I got a 1980 proof sovereign in the post today, and comparing it to a 2022 bullion sovereign the polished gold is virtually identical in colour. I think the colour difference is more down to the finish of bullion sovereigns. If you look at a post 2000's proof, the matte gold on the portraits is the same colour as old bullion. It's a shame bullion doesn't come as matte, and then save the polished finish for the background of proofs.

I don't know if you have any pre 2000's proofs that you can compare to modern bullion, but if you do, that could be an interesting video, especially alongside non proof pre 2000's. @@SovereignSaurus

Missing four portraits there .. but of those shown .. think I agree with the first three .. the George V portrait is high relief .. and marginal with Victoria young head .. of the Late QEII portraits .. I really like the Maklouf closely followed by Gillick .. but of all .. I think the IRB portrait of Elizabeth is by far the worst .. sadly most common! Somebody mentioned shields for reverse ... without a doubt William IIII shield design I think is the best !... portrait is right up there as well...

I'd have to check exactly but for gold it is into 6 figures. It does obviously change with spot fluctuations so I don't really worry about the day to day value and focus more on adding gradually over time 👍🏼

Easy work your ass off, i have been buying full sovereigns & half sovereigns since i was 13 years old, i have 100k+ in gold alone, never mind my silver stack,
