I will never understand how a team chose to name itself erroneously as a Jacket! One of the DUMBEST names in all of professional sports. Let's be honest the two finalist names "Justice" and "Blue Jackets" are just laughable back. "BLUE Jackets" are Navy sailors. There is no ocean anywhere near Columbus. This video inspired me to check the Kraken team store, and I was shocked to see that they're selling Adidas made in Canada jerseys. Priced out of my budget at $450. Seriously, that logo and mascot going away is a loss for the league, in spite of all the awful business and personnel decisions over the years. When the Arizona Diamondbacks got rid of their old purple and turquoise look, the Yotes were the one team there really holding down the local/indigenous art and aesthetic, going to miss it.

Like Shannon, I would prefer to enlarge the current crown and get rid of the big “LA” and the shield. Also, I was never a big fan of the Gretzky-era look. Again, the crown is too small and the words are too large. Also, I liked the blue-purple color they had for a while in the early 2000’s (not the original purple, however). Finally, the current crown is the one to keep. It represents a king’s crown since it’s pointed. The original rounded 1960-1970’s crown (which looks like the old Imperial margarine crown) is a QUEEN’S crown!!

Blues fan since ‘68. Shannon, it’s interesting that you noted the darker blue for the shoulder yoke on the home jersey. Note that on the home jersey Blue Note (Note on the Note, ha) it, too, is a darker shade of blue than on the white jersey. I assume they did it this way to create a bit of contrast compared to the base color which is a lighter, royal blue. In our original jerseys from 1967, the blue was the exact same color throughout and was a lighter shade. (My Crayola 64 crayon box when I was a kid called that “Cornflower Blue”.) I also agree, Shannon, that the current kit is the best. However, the original Blue Note is slimmer and conveys faster motion. So if I were to modify the jersey, I’d take the original Blue Note style, give it the current colors and tack it onto the current jersey.

I think they achieved perfection with the home white jersey in '97!! (Which is the same as the road white jersey now - pretty much. I do like the St. Louis flag collar on the inside.)

@@edwardofgreene Hi Ed O'Greene! I definitely agree with you. I have the current road white in my collection, which as you say is pretty much the same as the home white from the late '90's. I was really glad when they introduced those jerseys in '97, then they screwed them up temporarily with the Reebok (or was it Adidas) ones with the curved yoke. BTW, speaking of the flag collar, my second favorite photo is the one of Maroon and Bishop in the handshake line after the Blues won their 2019 series against the Stars. It shows them handshaking with one of the cheerleaders skating behind them with the City of St. Louis flag. For those of you who don't know, both Maroon and Bishop are from St. Louis. As a hockey-mad teenager in the late '60's playing street and roller hockey when the Blues were brand new, it's gratifying to see so many guys from the STL area now in the NHL.

I agree with Shannon. Quite a few of these kits look better in road white than home dark. To me one reason is because the logo stands out better with white as a background. Anaheim, Detroit, St. Louis, Tampa, Carolina’s circular swirl, Nashville, and Seattle’s logos look better on white. The prime exception is Chicago’s Blackhawk head. It looks far better on the red background!

I'm a Caps fan, and I think they have the best shade of red in the NHL. They look so good on TV and in person. I don't think I'm biased here, I remember when I first started playing hockey when I was super young and I thought about how lucky I am to have red as my favorite color and my hockey team has the best shade of it compared to the other teams.

As a sharks fan the away uniform is my favorite uniform in the league, and with the teal bucket it has an argument for the best uniform period. I really really like the home jersey, but I would like to see paired with some black pants, buckets, and gloves and I think that would elevate that look a ton, the all-teal look has grown on me, but I think a little separation of color would put it over the top

From an outside perspective, this is the correct take with Detroit. Their white jersey is incredible. Top 5 in the league. Their home jersey, however, it needs something to break up all that red. Inverting the white jersey would make their look so much better

Actually i am surprised about the Islanders. I dig their white jerseys. Blue and Orange are a solid colour combo imo. I love the Avs colours too. I wish they would use a lighter blue though. Vegas fan here. I’ve got two grays (signed Engelland and an Eichel), a Stone retro red, and a gold which I put Whitecloud on two years after I got it. I don’t have a white, because I spill. 😄 I agree that the gold are scratchy, BUT I put a long sleeve tee or hoodie underneath and problem solved. (I got it for Christmas 2020 and promptly lost 25 pounds, so this solution was feasible.😄)

I have an excel spreadsheet with the teams highlighted with their primary and secondary colors and the website I used to find the hex codes called Tampa's primary color "Toronto Blue" *sigh* I am a Tampa fan, but like, literally any other shade of blue or a different color like purple. Being a hockey fan since the early 90's, I generally liked the white jerseys more than the dark jerseys. I couldn't stand when they went back to dark jerseys at home. I think most team's white jerseys look better including my team, the Rangers. Montreal, Vegas, Winnipeg and maybe a few others are exceptions (imo) where the dark jerseys look better than the white. The pants play a factor in this, too. Since no one where's white pants, the white jerseys are usually a nicer contrast. Edmonton's dark pants with the dark jersey is too monochrome. The white jersey with the same pants looks great. That reminds me a lot of how the Nordiques white jersey looked great with the blue pants, the blue jersey not so much. I can understand why fans prefer wearing the darker jerseys since they should stay cleaner.

I think for third jerseys, teams should select one from their special event nights and rotate through them each year as an up yours to Bettman. I imagine that Bettman gets to veto any jersey choices though...

16:48 the good news is the Wild don't need to go to Dallas to get permission to use the North Stars colors or logo. The league owns that branding. Dallas has no interest in their org before 1993 and treats their team almost as though it started that year. The reverse retros sold really well, so my guess is they'll be the permanent third jersey.

Rating the leafs so high may be a matter of subjective opinion, but rating them so much higher than Detroit is just crazy. If Detroit is to be criticized for having too much of one colour on the home jersey, then why is Toronto not subject to the same criticism. Plus, the Wings white jersey addresses that issue, so as a set one would think it would rate closer to Toronto whose white jersey is more of the same.

Devils fan here, and yeah, most of us agree that taking out the bottom stripes was a bad move, at least on the red jersey; I don't mind it as much on the white, it's a clean look, but the red just feels too plain now. I wonder if some teams get caught between designing jerseys meant more for fans to wear around and designs that work better on the ice; the Adidas Devils ones feel more designed with fans in mind (the plainer look makes it seem like it could be a hoodie or something), but it takes away from the on-ice look. Also...ok, I SWEAR I'm not saying this just because I'm a Rangers hater, but I've *never* understood the love for their regular jerseys. Yeah, yeah, "Original Six", whatever, but seriously, I feel like nearly every alternate or outdoor game jersey the Rangers have worn have been superior to their regular looks. Like, remember when the Islanders bafflingly changed to navy blue for awhile?
