The final form of Elpizo being easier is a show don't tell example of what the dark elf does to a reploid who is not compatible with it. Throughout the fight he is screaming "more power" while also randomly jittering. He cannot control it. None of his attacks are aimed either. He is just lashing out. It has been a while since I last played the game though, so not sure on how much damage he does.

ZX ADVENT was way easier and more streamlined than ZX. Advent got rid of that stupid Biometal damage bullshit and just gives you a single energy bar. (BIG ASS COMMENT - NO SPOILERS) A little big something about Z1 and why we fans shouldn't take most Megaman games for granted. My friend, who played ZXA when he was younger, was ecstatic when I gave him the Zero/ZX Collection on Steam. He proceeded to beat the game in a week with Save Assist, commenting that without it, it would've been a lot harder. He then went back to try Z1, a title that I have played to hell and back, and was trying to fight Phantom. He didn't want to use Cyber Elves because of their lore, so he was essentially playing Hard Mode Z1 with Save Assist. I then picked up my Switch to play a little Z1 while he did, and I managed to beat the game while he was struggling against Hanumachine. A few days later, he dropped Z1, frustrated with trying again and again. He isn't the patient kind of person - for example, he dislikes Soulsborne titles and drops harder games, which is perfectly normal, mind you. But what surprised me is how he went on to beat ZXA and love it even more. From a certain point of view, the ZX games can be "just better Zero titles" because of the Biometal system being a better elemental chip system and having a map to explore. They are also fairly more colorful and jovial than the Zero games. I, however, didn't like them. I kept questioning how anyone preferred ZX when even in the weaker moments, the Zero games had much tighter gameplay without a horrid map that you could get lost in. Nowadays, I'm much more positive towards them, but it took me 2 years to beat ZX from lack of interest and I still haven't played ZXA, nor is it high on my priorities. But their popularity baffled me, as someone who started with the X series and enjoys "tighter" gameplay. Onto a completely different note: recently, the Battle Network series has had the most success out of any Megaman series. While they can be some of the hardest games in the series, all of them are much more inviting than a 2D platformer Megaman (except for half of the X games), gradually upping the difficulty and completely showing their hand at the final boss/postgame. Notably, the collection introduced Buster MAX, which is a genius way to reduce the difficulty of 2 of the games' main pillars: battling and collecting. And onto, again, a completely different note: ANOTHER friend of mine was really interested in Megaman 11 because of its artstyle, themes and music. But he finds the high difficulty off-putting, to the point that he took about a year to beat it and had no desire to continue exploring the series, despite being interested in Megaman (and me trying to convince him). I'm bringing this up because I feel very little difficulty from playing these games for 15+ years. The BN and SF postgames beat my ass, but I'm finally reaching the point of using a blend of strong chips and Styles/Souls/Crosses/Noise Change that I really like, which helps me steamroll most battles. And regarding X? I play X1, X3 and X4 the least because I've beaten them so. damn. much. (Still fantastic titles). 11 humbled me when I played it for the first time, so much so that I didn't like it because I thought it was too hard. Now it's one of my favourites, similar to what happened with you and Megaman 9, Explo. Finally, unto the point: Megaman's relationship with difficulty and how it uses it is a central part of the series and a huge reason why a ton of people like them. But it ends up cutting access to a decent number of people that would've been interested on trying out the franchise. With how the gaming landscape constantly changes, Megaman kept firmly going into its way - which is something I really admire, because it kept a high standard of quality, except for the early to mid 2000s. We're seeing a bit of a renaissance thanks to the collections, but it goes to show that they still can't break into mainstream status, probably thanks to their widespread high difficulty and older style of gameplay. Why this bigass comment in a Zero/ZX ranking video, out of all places? Because I believe that they are the titles that suffer the most because of their high difficulty. I can't prove it without deeply researching into it, but I believe they are, in average, much harder than a X title (since building up your character and exploring are main components that reward the player with, among other things, reduced difficulty) and harder than Classic games. Except for part of Z3 and Z4, the main upgrades of the game, Cyber-Elves, are hard to grind for and are killed when you use them, lore-wise. Getting a subtank in Z1 is impossible without using a Cyber-Elf, and expanding health in all Zero games is impossible without engaging with this system. In the X series, you find upgrades via exploration and most of them can be used immeadiately. The enemies aren't that much harder than X, but a lot of the bosses' patterns and Zero's low health are the main contributors to how inacessible these games can be. In my first playthrough, I was also hard-headed enough to only use a Cyber Elf against the final boss of Z1, in which my ranking wouldn't have tanked (a lot). I love this because I feel they incentivize replayability by making you WANT to get better at them. With a higher ranking, new abilities gained and knowing how the game plays, the ideal run includes not using a Cyber-Elf. But thanks to this focus, I believe it repels a ton of newer players interested in getting into those games. Coincidentally, Zero/ZX is the collection that sold the least. But anyway, I've ranted long enough. Thanks for reading until here! And your content is really good, Explo! ~Even if I don't agree with half of it lmao~ Keep on being great.

I'd say that the Zero games are definitely the hardest, out of the platformers. That seems to be the case whenever Inti Creates gets their hands on the franchise. Mega Man 11 had a lot of difficulty options and, like you mentioned, Capcom has been putting new ones in the collections, so I think they are trying to make it a bit more accessible. Really kind of hoping that they are trying to set it up to be main stream the next time we get a big, new release.

I just got the collection and been binging the last 2 days. Im on the last level in zero 1 I think. Its REALLY hard! I did watch a few lets play episodes and reviews so I had some good info going in. I was actually concerned that it would be too hard for me because I could not do the original mega man games 1-4. Too hard. I got so frustrated but zero feels so good to control. The controls are so tight and responsive. The only super frustrating level was the factory withe the bombs. Its impossible to see the floating platforms you have to fall down on and I literally died like 50 times. But because the game is so challenging it makes you feel really good when you pass something and I love games where you can see your skill growing over the playthrough and that rewards you when you the better you get and zero really does that well. Im looking forward to the rest of the series. Im also playing through the battle network collection. Im halfway through 6 right now. Looking forward to getting involved in the online competitive scene after I beat it and farm all the chips I need.

So, here's my ranking: 6) ZX: I do see the appeal of this game, I really do. But this game was such a pain to navigate around, and I kind of had to push myself to do a second run of this game to do Alie's story. While not bad overall, it just wasn't my cup of tea. 5)ZXA: Admittingly, I do agree with your criticisms of this game, but I admit there was some more charm to it. It's hard to describe, but there was a bit more fun to be had in this game compared to the first, even if the story was stupid. While it has some pretty bad moments, there are some good moments that may make me put it as 4 depending on my mood. 4) Zero 2: This could probably be number 5 given my mood. While it improves a lot over the first game, I don't know it feels a step back in some other areas. The form change was fun yet a bit pointless, and the bosses range from cool to annoying in a quite large margin. Makes getting an A or S rank for the EX skills a pain. I like the story with Elipzo. He's clearly someone who despises humans due to the atrocities of Neo Arcadia and lets his anger lead to an extremely careless plan that results in a lot of death and forces Zero and Ciel to play clean up. Then that guilt and anger lures him to get corrupted by the Dark Elf. At the end though it feels like an awkward middle child for me. 3) Zero 1: I get it. I understand why people don't like this game. I don't blame anyone for calling it the worst. Yet...I still love it. It might be a bit of a guilty pleasure or it might be because I played it the most when I was younger, so I'm more used to this game than any other game in this collection. (Heck, I even did a run without the save points one time.) It's open world is a neat idea and is nowhere near as bad as ZX's, and the boss fights are pretty cool. I won't deny the problems with the Cyber Elf system or the weapon level up system though. 2) Zero 4: This game was insane. I think it's probably the hardest of the Zero games too. (Fun fact: In DS easy senerio, this is the only Zero game where spikes will still kill you. Why? Don't know.) I love the levels with different weathers for extra challenge and being able to do it in any order you want. I love the story too. This is the first time in the series we get to see humans that aren't a scientist or related to one. Yeah, they come off as rather obnoxious a-holes that cry over the situation they find themselves in despite the pain they put Reploids in during the Energy crisis, but it is an interesting viewpoint when you look at things through their perspective. They don't know the Maverick wars was originally caused by a petty scientist and X buried most of the information on the Elf Wars away. So they don't know the truth of those wars were technically caused by humans and just see it as Reploids dragging them into their conflict. Plus it does indeed serve as an end to an era. Not just for Zero, but for the end of the era of Light vs Wily as now X and Zero, their final and greatest creations are gone. The last of their legacy is no more. Hate some of the mini bosses and not too big of a fan of the Z-Knuckle though. 1) Zero 3: Not really much to say about this game that hasn't already been said before. I just really love this game.

The game is stupid hard, don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise. My ranking: 1. Zero 4 My favorite Zero game and second favorite game ever. It absolutely destroyed console limitations and gave us a very difficult, yet extremely fun and memorable game. And the soundtrack is phenomenal, almost as good as Z2. 2. Zero 3 I agree with everyone that this is the best in the series. Not my favorite, but the best (there's a big difference), and that's why it's at this spot. 3. Tie between ZX and Zero 2 I feel like these two perfectly contradict each other in great ways. ZX is amazing gameplay-wise and mechanically, but I don't really like the story (except for Serpent, he's one of my favorite Mega Man villains). Z2 isn't too bright with its gameplay (it's a massive improvement from Z1 thought), but the storyline and characters are far superior than that of ZX. Z2 also probably has my favorite soundtrack in the series. In the end, I think I like Zero 2 a tiny bit more, but it just depends on the day. 5. Zero 1 A bad start to an incredible series. It really just laid the groundwork for the rest of the games. Sure, it was bad, but it's the reason why the next 3 games are so amazing. I don't like the majority of it, but I can appreciate it for what it's worth. 6. ZX Advent I haven't even completed this game, and I hate it so much. Transforming into bosses is weird and clanky, and the characters and story don't make up for it, either. I just really don't like this game so far, and from what I've seen and heard, I don't think I'll be enjoying it anywhere near as much as ZX1.

Mega Man Zero 2: Good music and stages, the final boss is meh, but the rest is great. 4. Mega Man Zero 4: It has easily the most heartbreaking finale, which is so good, the ability to use enemy weapons is good, but there some stages that are so annoying and I didn't knew what to do. 5. Mega Man ZX Advent: Is interesting to take different forms of each boss, I'm glad to have english voice acting and the bosses are good. 6. Ranking: 6 - Zero 1 5 - Zero 2 4 - Zero 4 3 - ZX Advent 2 - Zero 3 1 - ZX1 I’ve pretty much always kinda disliked the zero series besides the 3rd game. It’s just WAYYY to different compared to the past games. The original Zero game made sure to piss you off at every moment too. With gameplay that’s supposed to be fast, you have to VERY slowly save a guy from the desert. Zero 2 is just mid, that’s it. It gets better though, Zero 4 Is the first game on the list I like with a ton of cool story and mechanics. ZX Advent was originally my favorite game in the mega man series but to be honest, It’s not as good as I remember. I still love it but it’s not great. Zero 3, the zero series did something really good this time…NO LEVEL UP SYSTEM! I love the e reader cards, the bosses are fun, and overall it’s a really good game. Mega Man ZX1 is sooooo darn good. The models are fun, I love the zero 3 and zero 4 bosses, omega’s return, WHICH YOU CAN ALSO PLAY AS. The soundtrack is the best in like..the entire series and the story balances itself out incredibly well. The only problem to be honest is the map which does nothing to help you so overall this is one of my favorite games in the entire Mega Man franchise. And so that’s my Zero/ZX ranking!

As much as I enjoy ZX, I think the "weakpoints" system is just about the stupidest thing ever. Its a weak spot, but the boss (who presumably DOESN'T want to lose) constantly places it front and center in so many cases that it takes more effort to avoid it. It would at least be an interesting gameplay choice for the player, if the hit detection was consistent and intuitive, but there are too many cases where it's visually obvious where your attack landed, but the game decides it does or doesn't count based on arbitrary factors like the boss's pose. It's the number one reason NOT to play on hard mode since the price of biometal repair becomes completely unreasonable in the process.

I'm right there with you liking ZX better than ZX Advent. Even if Advent is just overall better designed, it doesn't change the fact that Model ZX is just WAY more fun than Model A. And even though it seems superficial in terms of gameplay, it really does just feel better to be Vent or Aile wearing different Biometals in ZX than it does to "turn into" those other obnoxious characters in Advent using A-trans. Why can't model A just copy the biometal without turning "me" into Aeolus?

I actually like the designs in advent since it differenciates them from the og designs. Not better to me, just neat that they made brand new sprites and stuff. My issue is that the boss transformations become borderline useless outside of their forced gimmicks. Like why would you want to be the big fish guy after you unlock Leviathan's armor? Why use the vine dude once you get Harpuia's armor? Putting in the guardian armors just highlights the flaw with copying the bosses, because you just unlock four more fun and versatile biometals, and later on you get Model ZX. I like Axel's design and character, but it just seems like capcom could never make his gimmick fun, even as a biometal. Big shame.

But yeah, largely agree with the how unnecessary most of them feel.

I agree with the placement of 3. But i think 1 really should be at the bottom. The levels are not as interesting, and truly evil at times, and most bosses are either a bore or difficult in the worst way (but there are some good bosses, most of those return later in the series). And the music was the most bland of the series. And the 2nd phase of the final boss is horrible 2 improved upon 1 massively, but im still putting it in 5th place. This is mostly a testament to the later games, but it got a broad suite of mediocre bosses in most cases, and the least memorable final boss. But i do love the game. Afterwards is actually a sort-of three-way tie between ZX, ZXA and 4, depending on how im feeling. I think 4 tops it most times, but there are some levels that i dont like as much, and same for some bosses. But all the other bosses are a masterpiece, and Weil is my favorite final boss story-wise for a reason! 4 is here mostly for the fastpaced and quick gameplay, compared to a more leisurely pace for the ZX games. Now between the ZX’s, it kinda depends. I prefer playing as model ZX over A, as i like melee weapons in these kinds of game, but There is a a lot less “boring” time in between missions, as the transit between area’s is a lot smoother in ZXA (i dont have to transit through entire levels just to reach a different level). And ZXA tends to have a better selection of bosses for me, even if most are forgettable, i just enjoy having a mix of humanoid fights, and mechaniloid fights. ZX only really gives the latter. They’re both really close in quality, with both giving a more relaxed and casual playstyle and story compared to Zero

Then Zero 1, because it''s not up to Mega Man bar of quality, but nothing ruins the replayability. Zero 2. would be middle because it still has rough edges and is extremely sadistic. ZXA would be barely above it because it's fine. I don't mind wearing the skins of the band of losers or the situational pseudos that much. Then Zero 3 in 2nd, because it's almost the perfection of the Zero series. Then Zero 4 on top because it is perfection of the Zero series. The story is perfect. The questions it poses and the way it asks them. I can't think of a better end for Zero's character arc either; the original maverick always was going to have a bittersweet, heroes end and using it to force Ciel to take charge is perfect.
