You covered almost every sub-bending element, except one "sand-bending", I realize that there were only a few instances of it in ATLA, but it's still a sub-bending ability tied to earth-bending even if it is only practiced by a handful of nomadic tribes. IMO it'd probably get ranked fairly low.

There's also glassbending too, and Immortality that Kyoshi learned from Lao Ge which is technically originate from Earthbending. Also not really a sub element but Dust-stepping was a thing during Kyoshi's era. Earth really holds endless possibilities.

Yes he made a grabbing motion and the crystals broke off katara and and sokka but there's no cases where yiu can create it yourself. I'm writing a fanfic for the next avatar. My premise is the New Avatar Cycle, wherein Korra's separation and reunification with Rava during Harmonic Convergence not only restored air bending to the world but also 'birthed' a new nation of spirit benders who can bend either their light or their shadow. So while the various powers of the world search in vain for the earth bender they think is the next incarnation, the true Avatar is actually a spirit bender just trying to survive in world where non-bender technology and other sociocultural developments are at odds with the old spiritual practices and beliefs, despite the ending of the Legend of Korra.

@@iagogaming9133 its kind of a retcon in the use of the term because I think LOK broke the ATLA rules of the spirit world anyway... Basically I'm saying spirit benders are energy benders or chi benders, based on the words of the Lionturtle that unlocked Aang's endgame ability to bend the energy within himself and other people. In my story I meld what ATLA and LOK depict about energy and spirit bending. Light benders bend their own inner light to do the kinds of things that Korra does in the battle against UnaVatu. Shadow benders bend their shadows to do what Aang does but rather than bend other people's chi, they're bending the chi or shadows of physical objects in a kind of telekinetic effect (because e=mc2, all matter is just highly organized energy). So in a battle, a light bender might shoot bolts of light or form weapons like Green Lantern while a shadow bender may manipulate physical objects to make a shield, even very pure metals like platinum. I'm limiting that manipulation to just macro actions; so they can lift, push and pull or even break things, but NOT alchemically transform or magically transfigure objects. I've also thought about giving them a special master level technique like Zaheer's flight for air benders and call it spirit walking; the ability to shift between the spirit world and physical world without a spirit portal.

Once again... lightning has less to do with fire than the other 3 elements. Lightning is created by WATER molecules banging around high up in the AIR forming clouds that have a negative charge on the bottom which creates a positive charge on the EARTH. . Lightning only has surface level resemblance to fire in that they both generate light and heat. Fundamentally fire is the rapid oxidation to combustion of matter - totally different from the phenomenon we call lightning. . Ironically lightning is formed from the interplay of the other 3 elements yet its a subset of fire - this bugs me especially since they claim Avatar was based on real world science, physics and martial arts.

There’s always one subtype that’s forgotten, probably on 11th place - heat bending. The only person seen doing it is Fire Lord Sozin while aiding Avatar Roku to cool the volcanoes, redirecting the volcanic gases. Still, it would be worth mentioning as a form of fire bending :)

If im not mistaken, energy bending isnt a sub bending, its a superset of all bendings. It could theoretically bend everything, it just hasnt been used much since before the age of the avatar, and even then only the lion turtles had it. The reason we have the 4 elements we do now is cuz the lion turtle just kinda made them up and gave them to people, which is why what specific things benders can bend is so arbitrary, and also why not everything is bendable. But thats just my theory

I wouldn’t classify energy bending as a “sub-bending” ability. Since it’s through energy bending that bending was given to humans it would be the prime bending ability with traditional elemental bending being secondary and metal, lightning, etc., being sun.

Because in LOK lighting was normally shot without charging making it weaker. We see w Mako who's instant lightning wasn't deadly but when he needed powerful lighting he charged up like in atla
