The Minecraft 2.0 update is so hard to obtain because it was originally only released to content creators, with the intention of just making a couple funny videos about it and all of its "features" without actually releasing anything. That's also why it comes in three different "color" flavors-- A lot of KZbinrs wouldn't be able to show off anything if they were swarmed by monsters every minute, so there's just a different version to disable it.

The fight clearly has changed. It is much easier now because there are a fixed number of towers and the dragon just sits down waiting for you to Crit it out whereas before it would constantly attack you unless you had a bow

The "3D Update" isn't just a love letter to old shooters, it's mainly to shareware. Like with Doom, devs would spread a short demo around that had a timer or only a few levels to let players try before they buy.

That isn't what shareware was. Usually it was a fairly sizable chunk of game that was freely and legally allowed for anyone to distribute and copy, unlike a freeware license. The references are to multiple different eras, with Registration being more a late 90s thing, the whole cheats thing lasting until the HD era and the low framerate being a reference to very early 3d titles.

I think I understand the reason you can't, since it would be a dominant strategy to have one big base in The End and just build portals to it rather than other bases since all End portals go to the same location, but I don't think people play Minecraft to NOT build bases. Hell, my one world that I've had for several years now must have at least 50 large bases in it across the world lol.

*[For Newcomers] The Love and Hugs update is so much better than Minecraft, cause it allows you to pet animals (like dogs), skeletons produce bone meal, creepers are smiling, and instead of exploding, they explode into an uncollectible pile of poppies, and if you reach 8 rows of hearts, you taking fall damage causes you to start a game of minesweeper, and winning that starts the end cutscene, instead of trading, you’re donating to villagers, the clouds are hearts, squids can swim in the air, snow layers occasionally appear, forming a QR code, there are only positive splash messages, witches throw potions that specifically heal only players, drowning is impossible, lava makes items jump, dungeons are made of quartz, and the colors are extremely vibrant. This video makes me feel so old.. There's an old concept that the moon was made of cheese. The concept started in the 1500's with a proverb: "The moon is made of greene cheese" which was synonymous with "a big hoax". So, it's fitting that they'd go for this in the April Fools update. It was still a widely popular idiom when I was a kid. Regarding the cows; "Hey, diddle diddle" was really, really well known when I was a kid. If you've ever heard of mother goose or the term "over the moon" it's all related. It goes: "Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, The cow jumped over the moon; The little dog laughed, to see such a sport, and the Fork ran away with the Spoon." It's from the 1500's from what I remember of it, and quite silly. But even in the 1990's it was widely read to children for entertainment. You mix the moon is made of cheese (which was also part of nursery rhymes!) and the cow jumped over the moon.. and bam. Aerated cows. As others have mentioned, the 3D update was very much a reference to old shooters. You can see this concept in modern days making a comeback as well; like Iron Lung, Cruelty Squad, etc. The cheat codes were a nice touch though. They were mostly old codes and references from 1980's-1990's media. POWEROVERWHELMING was a Starcraft cheat that grants invincibility and gives you some extra mobs on your team. Pigs on the wing is a Pink Floyd song, but when you put it in there's a text prompt that says "FLYING = VERY YES". This is a very very old internet meme reference from a guy named Strongbad. The guy used to make videos about answering his emails in flash, and one episode started a silly few silly memes. The name of the episode? "FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR VIRUS = VERY YES." FLASHAAAAA was another code in this that's more of a media reference. Flash Gordon! IDFKA was the weapon cheat in the original doom game, fitting! MOREDAKKA is a Warhammer 40k reference, as others have stated. HOWDOYOUTURNTHISON was a code to spawn a car in the old Age Of Empires games. Finally "There is no secret cow level" is from Diablo 1. There was also a code in this snapshot for "NEEEERD" which, well. A few of us have heard that term of endearment for a long time. The code spawned a creeper with a coat and glasses. Interestingly with the "Doom" update you also had a straight-title screen text that calls it Doom. "Doom 2 - Completely not related to other games named Doom. This one is about gardening." Which is a huge inspiration for this update. You can really see it with the barrels which were a staple. Funny enough, there's a title/loading screen that says "LOADING MINECRAFT.WAD" which is how old Doom levels were stored. On launch of the game for the 3D shareware update, it had a splash screen with the Mojang name being said aloud just like the really old game splashes. Back in the day when you launched a Sega game, it would sing "Sega" at you. Same concept. You can actually see this still in Project Diva games. It's so iconic when Sega stopped doing it, modders put it back in. There's a "Thank you for playing!" reference as well-- which came from a ending screen in Wing Commander. It was actually a converted error message. Yoko Taro still uses this in almost every game he makes for beating it 100%. Really good video. This took me back.

dont get confused, im not a hater but can we just talk about how in the ender dragon fight in minecraft 2.0, when he ran out of arrows the dragon had a slightly bigger amount of health than when he actually exploded the bed, go check, when he mentioned he only had the bed left check the dragon's health bar and check again just seconds before he exploded the bed. But yeah he cheated, but he likely gave himself another bed(seeing how much the dragon has taken as dmg/the durability of his sword didnt change enough and him punching the dragon or using the pickaxe is extremly unlikely), also the biggest reason why he mustve cheated is the blocks you see at the tower shortly before using the bed, nobody places the blocks back after going out so the most likely thing is he cheated at that point(gave himself another bed since the first one wasnt enough even tho it doesnt matter since it wouldve just taken longer since the crystals are gone and he isnt on hardcore so overall its just for dramatic effect)

Before I watch the rest of the video, I have to say that you should have made sure you were playing Minecraft 2.0 Blue version instead of Red or Purple version to avid all the lighting and mobs spawning. Plus you'd get to see the Diamond chickens and the introduction of stained glass and coal blocks before they got added to the game. I think that April Fools version came oit dur8ng normal version 1.5 because I had to modify a 1.5 json file to use with rhe jar for 2.0 Blue to get it to work.
