Before Steve Nash, the Suns were like a race car with no driver, and he filled that role perfectly. Sure, the "car" might be powered by the talents of people like Shawn Marion & Amare Stoudemire, but it goes nowhere without the "driver." Where others spun out, Nash excelled. That's why he was the MVP. He made the system work.

Shaq was almost 30 years old at the close of the 2000 season. Big men rarely remain dominant passed 32 years old. All this talk of Shaq could of dominated for years after is laughable. He still played well all the way through 2007, just wasn't dominant like the Shaq we once knew.

@@noahberry5786 Kobe who "does not pass the ball" led the league in assists? where did you get that? Even Odom had more assists that year!!! Also, his best steals season was in 2003. Nash lost 3 scorers (injured Amare, Iso Joe to Hawks and Quentin to NY) , made Diaw and Barbosa relevant and Bell had best season in his career. That's overachieving. Cast who stepped up is more correct than had more help. Valid MVP case. And like I said if not Nash, it was either Lebron or Dirk before Kobe.

I might be willing to throw one of the two Duncan mvp's at 2nd ahead of LeBron's, what Duncan did in the slowest paced era in NBA history is just beautiful and he had so much more those years that just doesn't show up in the numbers

i respect ur opinion, but that year was the year bron really asserted his dominance to the league, he had everything going for him that year, passing, scoring, defense and team wins were all on point. plus, with all due respect to the LEGEND kobe, i remembered that in 09' jerry west himself said that bron has surpassed kobe as an individual. That means a lot coming from a laker legend to say that, especially putting him above a guy who has flat out been the best player in the 2000's

Or with the superstar method it’s worth acknowledging that going from not in the playoffs to being good but a non contender is not more significant than good non contender to true contender. It’s much harder to turn 60 wins into 70 than it is to turn 30 wins into 40.

If you listen and watch very carefully and if you watch NBa during these early years it is true that MOST NBA TEAMS ONLY HAVE 1 STAR... and yet some of which can make NBa finals not like in todays era where you have 2-3 stars per team while some teams dont even have a star player.

I feel like Nash is one of the most underrated players in history. Literally, the system argument flies only so far when he is the system. 1. Shaq 2000 2. LBJ 2009 3. KG 2004 4. Duncan 2003 5. Duncan 2002 6. Kobe 2008 7. Dirk 2007 8. Nash 2006 9. Nash 2005 10. Iverson 2001
