So I have an interesting anecdote regarding Bonk's Adventure. At least a decade ago, I picked up a Dingo A380, which was one of the original handheld emulation devices. It was able to emulate NES/SNES/Genesis and GBA games pretty well. In any case, for whatever reason, the device by default came with Bonk's Adventure loaded, but the version on the handheld had that "something about this doesn't feel like the original game, something about this feels like it is a bootleg" feel to it. If the thing was still working, I'd check on it, but the unit bricked on me while I was playing through Fire Emblem 7 in Eliwood hard mode on map 18x. (Hey, when your console bricks on you, it imprints a pretty strong memory.)
@TheGameDisplay8 ай бұрын
Haha what a weird game to include on something like that! Definitely curious what might have made it stand out as bootleg. That's too bad it ended up bricking on you. Reminds me of when my first DS FlashCart bricked but somehow it was salvageable. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :)

@@TheGameDisplay I had to research this, I found out the title screen for the game said BCKid instead of Bonks Adventure. It otherwise played the same. I realize now it was more likely the European version and not a reprogrammed bootleg. Since the next review video will be on the C games, I'm looking forward to you take on the Castlevanias and on Cobra Command, a game I have faint memories continually crashing the helecoptor in.

I had no clue there is a SECOND Bomberman on NES! Let alone it being expensive! I've always thought it to be impressive that Bonk's Adventure is on NES. Maybe the price justifies that? XD Boulder Dash seems interesting! The world map looks straight out of Super Mario World! You wonder who inspired who! Overall, another excellent NES ranking video Andrew!!

Thank you so much for watching, HackinQuackin! It's funny how easily those late NES sequels can fly under the radar. The Boulder Dash map style does almost look like it would be from a Mario game! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. :)

Seems like you've been doing something similar to what I've been doing recently. I've been exploring the whole NES library, and want to try every game. I've been reading my NES encyclopedia, and learning about every official and unlicensed game. As a kid in the early 90's, I only played about 30-40 NES games, but today I can experience the system more broadly because I have access to every game.

There's definitely a lot to love about the NES! It really has a unique library of games. Glad that you're also having fun exploring it! Curious how some of my thoughts compare to the book, haha.

The best series on YT returns! Fantastic as always Andrew. I personally disagree with your Bubble Bobble score as I feel it did an awesome job of converting the co op action of the arcade over to the NES. Simultaneous co op was highly sought after for my friends and I and this game didn't fall into the usual trappings of having a brutal continue system when your lives ran out. The one short repeating track did start to really grind on the eardrums though 😂. 😁👍
@TheGameDisplay9 ай бұрын
Haha, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm sure Bubble Bobble is a completely different experience when played with a friend, especially a friend who will stick it out through all of the levels with you. Just bring your own music because by Round 20 your ears are going to be bleeding. XD

You can actually play Bomberman II with three players if you have a Four Score. Burai Fighter has four difficulty level, the fourth one ("Ultimate") is unlocked after beating the third difficulty level. Only rating I don't agree at all with is Boulder Dash (also a game with four rounds of difficulty). Great game, way more interesting than the boring Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle. Easily an A for me.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm curious if you've played Crystal Mines and Exodus on the NES. They're very similar to Boulder Dash but I found their levels to be a lot more fun. While the core concept of Boulder Dash is enjoyable I think the levels are too large and overall gameplay somewhat unenjoyable compared to those other games that have smoother movement where you're not stuck to a grid, more manageable level sizes, and even bombs and projectiles to mix things up. Even then they're not perfect and would probably still get a B from me, so Boulder Dash had to be lower than that. Glad to hear how much you enjoy it though, perhaps I'll have to revisit it soon! :)

I'd like to try the Blue Marlin after what you said about it. Sometimes I try to be open-minded about underappreciated genre's like fishing games, bowling, board games like Monopoly, and game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. I found some to be fun, despite the retro gaming community not talking much about them.
@TheGameDisplay9 ай бұрын
Playing every NES game has really shown me just how fun some genres can be. I never imagined that I would ever enjoy a fishing game that much, but then here we are, haha. The are some great game show and board game conversions as well. Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

Please consider checking it out and let me know if you have any questions. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYHJlJl9qbpjnac I have also since picked up an AVS NES for playing games in HD. My opinions on the games I have. Bill and Ted is a D. I had no idea where to go in this game, but some some parts were funny and It was kind of playable. I totally agree with you. Maybe one day I will try it again. Blaster master is a B. For me it's hard. I remeber getting to level 2 one time and that was a huge accomplishment for me. I bet if I play it again it with save states and a guide it would be an A. I absolutely love the setting and music. Wow thank you for explaining the intro. It never made sense how this guy went down a hole which got huge when he went in and found a whole world. I still like the setting though because I had a big imagination. I don't have burgertime on the NES, but I played it on an emulator and I have the intellivision version. I completely agree with the controls of Burgertime on the NES. For the intellivision version, the control are much better with the disk and because of that and the levels on the intellivision, it is one of my favorite games of all time. In fact, I'll list them here because I took time to think about years ago and wrote them down: Kirby superstar Tetris attack Dr Mario Ff7 Soul caliber 2 Super smash bros Warriors orochi 2 Sonic 3 and knuckles Burger time Powerstone 2

Thank you so much for watching and for your amazing comment! Bill & Ted with some work could be a pretty cool game, but as it is it's almost unplayable at times. I do like what it was going for though! Haha, isn't that weird about Blaster Master? It was called MetaFight in Japan, and you can actually play it in the Famicom Nintendo Switch Online app. Another interesting thing about that version is that you get infinite continues, unlike the NES version where you only get a few. Perhaps give that version a try! It's a shame that the NES version of Burger Time turned out that way. It's great that you love the other versions of the game though, and overall I like your list! Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still my favorite side scrolling Sonic game. No matter how much they try to bring the genre back these days it seems they just can't quite find a way to make a game that had the magic S3&K had.
@Jarod_Schultz9 ай бұрын
I enjoyed Breakthru when I beat it a few years ago. It seems difficult on the surface, but it's like you said about infinite lives and checkpoints, it's not as hard as other games in the same genre.

Hi and thank you for your reviews. It's great to have this. So when I'm in a nintendo playing mood I can look back at your videos and get an idea. I don't have bubble bobble, but I played it and it's good, but nothing great for me - C or B. I have the Blues Brothers for the N64 and its bad -E. Bucky Ohare looks really good. I have bugs bunny for the SNES and it was okay - C.

I would assume that for Blaster Master, they changed the story for the version we got here in the US because the original Japanese story was a bit too generic & they wanted it to stand out a bit more so that more people would give it a chance. Also, Blaster Master 2 on Sega Genesis sucks. EDIT: As someone with good eyes, I can see myself enjoying Big Nose Freaks Out. Sounds like a sort of strategic platformer from how it plays.
